He and Gohan were trying to make SSJ as natural as possible.

Only to find out later on, that it isnt natural at all, right? I mean Gohan got that
stupid
mystic form (I know some people like it, but for me, powering up and changing your "hair and stuff" was important as a kid :D)

And Goku found out that later SSJ forms just tweak small things but affect other stuff too so basically in BoG and RoF base and SSJ1 form got most time

On episode 9 of dragonball. Enjoying it.

People were comparing the pacing, but dragonball is more of an adventure. Super has been filler for sure.

I was kinda okay with the recap of the ending of Z from the beginning of the first episode using old footage.

But they should have totally re-animated the flashback to Vegeta and Trunks training inside the ship. What the hell. I get the feeling this trend will continue, too. Fucking cheap ass Toei.

These aren't like filler episodes they're like the Great Saiyaman saga, it's establishing what the peace time status quo is and easing back into the cast

The "Great Saiyama Saga" were about two manga chapters extended into an actual arc by adding a many minor events to stretch things out. So, it was mostly filler.

I guess we can't really say how much is filler since we can't see Toriyama's outline, unlike the manga, but the similarities with previous Toei filler really make it seem like most of these two episodes have been filler.

Two chapters, two episodes, sounds fine to me.

I dont think you can say Super are fillers. The first chapter or two in both manga and anime shows Goku fighting off nameless dinosaur and fishing giant nameless fish too. dont forget about the rabbit gang as well. Just because there's no intense fighting doesn't mean they are fillers here, especially since Super anime is the source material now.

And here I thought we finally got some movies that will actually fit inside the DBZ cannon. I guess some things never change.

Super is including some anime filler characters like Satan's disciples and Gregory, while the movies avoided that. So, arguably, Super might end up not being canon. Remember, it's only following a story outline from Toriyama and using some designs made by him, he doesn't have as much influence in the final product as he had in the recent movies.

I think the outline might be pretty vague too. Compare the scene from episode 1 where Beerus destroys a planet to the counterpart in the promo manga. Both used the same designs for the aliens, but the actual scenario was fairly different aside from Beerus destroying a planet. Both likely were based on Toriyama's outline, but interpreted by different people, and their differences suggest how vague it is. In the manga, they attempt to poison Beerus and he blows up their planet, while in the anime he's just annoyed by their food and destroys half of their planet.

Of course, we only will know for sure when Toriyama works directly on another movie or makes statements about the series, using or not using elements from Super. Still, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see Super's Goku using the Dragon Fist, for example.

And people said anime from back then looked good.

You can think the animation for the older shows looks good but believe it shouldn't be used in Super. The visual inconsistency is because the archive footage was done on cells 20 years ago when Toriyama had a bulkier art style. Super is done digitally with characters based on Toriyama's slimmer look. It was like that whenever Toei decided to "redraw" scenes in Kai as well. Smash cutting between the two just feels jarring.

Kai looks great.

That's debatable ... especially with the way Toei handled The Final Chapter.

Seems weird to me that they're ignoring the movies, even though they just came out and practically jump started this whole thing. Oh well, as long as we get better explanations for Red Hair SSJ God and Blue Hair ascended SSJ God I'll be happy.

They're retelling them, not ignoring them, so SSJG and SSJGSSJ are here to stay.

Guess what i'm having for lunch today guys

It's gonna be soo good. It'd be very unfortunate if a cat blew up half of earth before I got a chance to eat it though :(

Why did they do this. I feel it's the worst thing about Kai
Wasn't it because they wanted to clean up/fix damaged animation cells and tone down some of the flashing because of new Japanese TV standards? Buu Kai also changed the flashing scenes.

That's also why there are slight changes to blood and gore in only two scenes. Japans TV ratings got soft yo.
