Pretty much. Raditz pops up to force Goku into joining him. His death results in the Saiyans coming to kick their ass in a year. During the invasion Piccolo dies, so they went to Namek to revive him. After arriving, they have to fight for the wish against the most powerful conqueror of the universe (at the time). Goku got stranded in outer space for a year.......
It goes on.

Saiyaman is awesome and 100x the hero Super Gohan will ever be.
I really want to be super wrong but I have no faith in Gohan. He's had all the chance to take the lead and be the mystic hero he was destined to be but nooooope. Gotta give the glory to Goku.
At best he'll get back his Mystic Mojo and be third or fourth rate at best (depending on how good Nipples the enchilada really is).
I'm sure he'll surpass Piccolo though, big green needs to job some more. All my favourite characters need to be beat up and turned into noodley armed weaklings.

Vegeta goads Frieza into transforming into his final form. He allows cell to absorb android 18. Attack perfect cell blindly after Trunk's death and cost Gohan his left arm in the fight. Let Babidi take control of him and the energy from the fight with Goku is what awakens Buu.
You act like it was the character's fault Toriyama changed his mind at the last minute!
Also he's already stronger than Piccolo, where you been?
I think his editor who was the ones who pushed for Goku to be the focus again.

And nah, not Gohan's fault Toryama decided to make Goku the big cheese because he was scared people wouldn't like Gohan being cool. It just really sucks that Gohan was a rising super star then gets the glory stolen from him then turns into a nerd.

while Gohan either is a failure or is uber prideful and believes that nothing can go wrong and then gets angry or sad when people around him suffer because of it

Vegeta is also uber prideful and that leads to him fucking up be intentionally letting the bad guys power up or heal because he wants a fair fight then gets owned. At least, for the most part, Gohan delivered. Even if someone died or was hurt he got some moves in, or ended up killing them.
I feel though that "trained" Gohan won't be as strong or as cool as he was. And I mean, yeah, his "power level" will be higher but I doubt he'd end up as strong in comparison as when he was a kid or late teen.
I have no hope for Gohan because he was one of my favourites (next to Piccolo) when he was a badass kid, Saiyaman or becoming Mystic and seeing the glory stolen from him before I just know it will happen again. He'll get SSB and then Goku and Vegeta will fuse and somehow end up with SS purple Gogeta (or Vegeto, forget which is which).

I think this is the first DB tournament where you're supposed to somewhat care for all of the participants involved instead of the 1-2 characters that are shown to be obviously important.

I think really, I'm just glad that despite everything Piccolo didn't decide to fuck off and become a biology teacher or something. Piccolo has been c tier for the longest time that him dying or getting wrecked doesn't phase me. He's still super awesome, looks amazing, has the special beam cannon and was mentor to Gohan.

Good ol' Pooh Bear will be the real MVP coming up. I feel it in my bones. He's trained at 1 million times Earth gravity against Christopher Robin and the Hundred Acre Wood wildlife. He's proven he can bat away spirit bombs and make home runs in fractions of a second.
Pooh Bear and Robo/Gato will be the ones to beat. No matter how strong this hypothetical Super Saviour Gohan becomes, he'll never be Christopher Robin let alone Pooh. Hell, he wouldn't even be Rabbit.
