Dragon Quest Builders demo out now

I went from having the lowest expectations for the game to after finishing the demo, it being probably my most anticipated game for the rest of the year. This might change once Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2, and FFXV come out, but until then I NEED THIS GAME IN MUH LYFE!

nah, I don't think it was that. I remember there being a very DQ-esque dragon and a blue-ish dungeon/castly area that had a chest or something.

It's late and I've had a long day, so maybe I'm just going crazy. Thanks for the help anyway.

Sorry cant be of much more help than that. Only other thing that was released recently DQ related on the 3DS well not exactly recently was the DQ8 remake and DQ Monsters Joker III I think.

I'm on the ps4 store right now and can't find it under demos. This is for America right? Or am I wrong?

Edit: Just searched for it by title and found it.

btw to whoever is planning on doing the Western release OT feel free to use the banners or title image also if you want from the Import OT I had done. Or if you want to do your own I got a link to that block font which was used to make the banners and such. The background color was just taken off of an image of the dirt blocks used in game.

You're obviously thinking of the highly acclaimed minecraft inspired harvest moon the lost valley ;)))

This game is so charming.

I bought Captain Toad on the Wii U because I wanted a chill game with some light puzzle elements and gorgeous presentation.

Dragon Quest Builders is that game for my PS4.

I really hope this is a sleeper hit, the musical rearrangements are beautiful and it's SO ADDICTING. This is what I needed to get into the Minecraft 'genre'.

Okay, really mixed about this demo.

When it was first announced I proclaimed it was the greatest thing ever. And somewhere in my heart I still believe that. Playing through the demo just highlighted so many things I dislike about gaming in general.

Why is there so much story in this game? I spammed X to get through the really annoying exposition. It doesn't do anything except wreck any sense of pacing. The whole tutorial bit is really unneeded and unwanted. I don't get why developers want to shove handholding down our throats. If anyone claimed that the tutorial is meant for kids they're lying to themselves. Just look what kids manage to do with Minecraft without being tutorialized in this forced manner. It's jittery producers who are out of touch with gamers that demand this shit. It ruins everything. Out of 15 minutes of "playtime" I played for a minute and did nothing except follow instructions. Such a boring demo and introduction to the game.

It ended with me uninstalling it and for the first time in ages boot up Minecraft and play for a couple of hours.

I think the exposition is heavy handed as well (I skipped it all too) but I don't think it is a big deal at all. The core gameplay is good and that is all I needed to find out if I liked it or not.

I thought it had a lot of story because "Dragon Quest", and its what I expect when I play a DQ game.

There's a secret cave in the mountain by the demo town, a chest surrounded by a mob barrier, has a seed that increases maximum HP.

Went to the poisonous swamp part of the demo starting place, fought some tree things, but that's all I found. I feel like there's more hidden stuff in the demo, just gotta find 'em.

Played the demo about an hour yesterday before deciding to stop .
Now I just want to play this game even more !

Game is so much fun and charming (like all Dragon Quest games)
I'm currently playing Dragon Quest VII and I'll be playing this on release , looks like I'll have my fill of DQ games for this year :P

Loved the demo, but fuck, I don't know if I can justify paying $90 for it.

Canada sucks right now.

Seriously, it's brutal. Starting to embrace the backlog more and more.

Example; I started Yakuza 4 last night, cancelling Mafia III pre-order (will go on sale so fast).

and RIP Amazon E3 %30 off.

Loved the demo, but yeah $80.. I'm still going to get it.

My only gripe with it is the controls - i'll have to mess with accessibility options to get it right.

I had so much fun with the demo, which seems to be pretty meaty as I am nowhere close to being done.

I just have a few question though;

-What's the point of the hunger system, I mean what happens if you don't eat?

-Can I transfer data to the retail version or do I have to start from scratch?

-Just how long is the demo? I am currently at the point where I built the kitchen.

-Why is Pippa so adorable?

-Why is Rollo creepy? -_-;

Haven't really played the Dragon Quest series, but this game piqued me and the demo helped sell the game to me. I'm excited for this game to come out (although I have to buy a new controller to replace mine though, damn malfunctioning d-pad)! I hope being a newcomer to the series won't become such a deterrent.

Just a background: I've always loved the concept of Minecraft, but I didn't like how they didn't build on the feature of making (and growing) a town. So this is exactly what I was looking for in Minecraft and it's great to see that the demo expanded on that.

This would have been so perfect on the Vita if I had one, but alas... PS4 version it is!

It's interesting that some people are a little annoyed with the amount of story and dialogue in the game. I think it's smart that they lean on that. The writing is localized pretty good and it's charming, cute and it has that DQ humor. One of the big things that will keep builders tied to it's JRPG roots and give people purpose to build is the story. biggest thing that will ward off minecraft ripoff claims. That being said, any detail; on how the rpg systems will flesh out in this game?

finished it and really liked it on vita, shame not physical release will see how much digital tax is added not sure i would be happy paying £50 for this game on vita.

Anyone else struggling to decide which version to get? Played the demo on both systems and I love the increased draw distance on PS4 (to see resources better), but the portability and price on Vita is so tempting and definitely pushing me in that direction. I almost wish it wasn't coming to the Vita, just to make this easier.

Yup, I wrote it just a few posts up in fact ;) I wa skins of hoping someone would respond with some unseen brilliant reason that would help me choose haha they are both great prospects, the vita version especially so the way it keeps up with its big brother.

Hahaha! I completely missed that. Was skimming the thread to see if anyone else had asked the question.

For me it comes down to which I play the most. I love my PS4, but sitting down to play that has become more and more of an event, meaning I have to decide to play and find the time and so on. But I've had my Vita sitting next to me at my desk and I pick it up very casually and play the demo, building up my dirt castle for five or ten minutes before putting it back down to get back to work. Graphically, it's not ideal but that's really the only knock against it from my perspective. But still! I keep thinking I'll miss out on better looking stuff if I go with the Vita. I suppose ignorance is bliss. And again, the price feels a tad bit more reasonable on the Vita. At least in the states.

Sucks that there's no cross compatibility. You'd think Square-Enix would jump for joy at super-fans buying both versions, but alas...

Played an hour, then deleted - day one purchase for me, don't want to spoil the experience anymore until I have the full game.

If cross save existed for this, I'd buy it twice. Hope they look into it. It's a perfect travel game, but I don't want to be tethered to my Vita.

Haha I feel you, it seems like you're passing up the premium experience by not going PS4, but I find handheld gaming alot more practical these days too, especially for games that require alot of time to dig into (I just grabbed Lost Odyssey because of this BC thing but lord knows when I'll have 70 hours in front of the television). It's really jsut the vita itself that starts to niggle me after long sessions, my hands cramp up in a way they just don't with the 3DS for some reason.

Cross compatibility would be nice, they're charging enough for the digital PS4 version that they could just throw the vita version in too, but no. I think I will go vita though. I'll probably have misgivings, but it makes more sense I think.

I feel like this demo has too much hand holding. I just want to learn how to break down and create rock and other wall types besides dirt lol

Played the demo a bit and stopped.

Game feels super comfy and this demo definitely sold me. The game feels like a classic Zelda with a mix of sandbox elements.

I'd play more but I don't think the saves for the demo will transfer to the main game and don't want to lose my progress.

Really looking forward to this.

Played through the whole demo, took about 2 – 2 ½ hours and really enjoyed it. I had planned on getting this game already, but the demo just cemented it even more so.

Played about half an hour's worth...

...I'm there Day One. This is really damn good. That says a lot coming from someone who has liked, but not loved, similar games. The DQ world adds so much charm on top of the good design/flow.

I played the demo all the way to its conclusion last night and I am feeling even more confident this will be my favorite game this fall. I love everything about it. (Well, except for maybe the control bindings.)

I went from zero expectation to maximum hype.

There is something oddly mesmerizing in doing quests, explore a giant sandbox and build multiple floor buildings.
