Mostly the produced shows part. Jones pretty much said on Cup of Jones that when they get into a position to hire someone, it's going to be an editor because that's what they need for that.

They're doing several let's plays with Nier and FF6. Spoilercasts will happen naturally when/if they all finish the same game.
Many of them finished Uncharted, the Witcher and FFXV, yet no spoilercasts.

Produced shows do not need a studio, even though a studio would be lovely. Look at Jimquisition or Don's shows as examples of produced content done outside of the confines of the studio.

By let's play, I meant talking for 10 minutes about a game an ally is playing (or cutting that later out kf Frametrap). Sorry should have been clearer.

If they need money for an editor to make this happen, then that's perfect for setting Patreon goals. No one's asking them to do announce new produced shows but I thought they might have them as patreon goals.

I'm reluctant to jump to conclusions and want to see how everything turns out first but on paper there seems to be some truth to what mario007 said. I initially missed that the movie podcast was exclusive to the 7 dollar tier. Now I got no problem with that but when I initially read it I thought oh that's a good way to get new people that maybe aren't into games as much. But given that it's exclusive I wonder if new people will even find it. Right now it definitely seems more like a move to incentivize slightly higher spending from people that are already patrons. Which I think is also fair, I often lose perspective since I'm a patron mostly to support them(and not because of any specific content promise) but I think during last year people have criticized that aside from cup of jones there is not enough value to being a patron.

Thursday will probably give us a better picture of things but yeah maybe a few sentences outlining what their strategy is to maybe attracting new people and raising the influx of new patrons, cause I would be curios about that. Currently the biggest draw for new people seem to be the main podcast and the reviews.

Business musings aside I'm still excited currently like I said Ian/Huber on paper I think is a really good duo to be talking movies.

A bit mixed on both new podcasts. Damiani is perfect for Nintendo discussions of course, but will he be able as a host to inject enough personality and make it unique and engaging like Ben and Kyle have been able to? Also will anyone be able to challenge him on any subjects? I'm a bit afraid it could turn into long Damiani monologues. On paper though, love the idea, so we'll see.

A movie podcast is weird for me, because as a non american I find it way harder to listen to american podcasts about movies than games. They often revolve around big american releases, and the references and knowledge is always extremely Hollywood-centered (and post 80's at that). We'll see I guess, I'm sure Huber will mention a popular korean movie from time to time, but I just don't think it'll be what I'm looking for.

I will probably give both podcasts a shot.

I don't mind the ideas and I think both of them probably will be good, but I just don't have the time for more podcasts as I am not even able to watch/game everything I want as it is anyway. So I will probably just try them out, but I'm not sure I will be able to keep watching them.
To much to do, not enough time unfortunately. I haven't seen the switch 8-hour stream yet (and will probably never have time for it) and I will probably have a hard time to fit in their anniversary 12-hour stream this as well.

That said, I think it is great to see them come up with new content (both podcasts seem interesting to me) and I am sure a lot of people will watch them.

New Movie podcast tier which will be exclusive to the $7 tier and above
New Nintendo focused podcast by Damiani

Next retro is Soulsborne.

Ah, that's def. out of my league, but that's alright, i don't have much interest in hearing the Allies' opinion on movies, tbh (no offense).
I don't think my tastes would match up anyway.

Interesting that they're branching out of games more, though.

Notice I didn't say fan but specialist. I just don't see any of the other Allies being excited enough to talk about other platforms exclusively. Honestly they are a pretty Nintendo leaning bunch (apart from Jones and Ian they all pretty much seem to have huge nostalgia for Nintendo and Nintendo games even if times have forced them to get into other consoles and games.)

I'm betting there's Nintendo fans out there who think they're a "pretty Sony leaning bunch", seeing as they gave two PS4 exclusives 5 star scores, TLG was their GOTY last year (with UC4 the runner up), Bloodborne was their 2015 GOTY at GT, they trashed the Wii U and they're probably best known for freaking out over Sony's E3 conferences. In other words, I don't think it's fair to try and pigeonhole them like that.

While I have no idea whether any of them would be excited to do a PS podcast and I'm not even asking for one, I do think if they wanted to do it, they could. It's not like they don't already cover a ton of PS4 exclusives, even Digimon got a 6 hour stream.

I like the sound of the new podcasts but just disappointed they're making the movie podcast Patreon exclusive. I'd have preferred it being available later for people that aren't patrons or at that patreon tier. Maybe that is the case? Guess I'll await further info before assuming the worst though

A PS podcast isn't a good idea because if Scorpio doesn't change the landscape dramatically, any multiplatform podcast is de facto Playstation centric. If it weren't for Nintendo and the Switch taking up a lot of time lately, you're already served better by EZA than by PS I Love You.

That's a sign of the times though, in Germany there is a daily video game podcast which was on Patreon very early when people were still figuring out how it works best. They were successful and reached their goal of a weekend podcast for everybody. Then with more creators asking for money the Patreon numbers stagnated or declined. The weekend podcast goal was still reached but it was impossible for them to grow without changes and compete with other, newer campaigns. So now the weekend show is completely Patreon exclusive.

I don't want to complain about new stuff but I gotta admit this is somewhat disappointing news to me. Outside of a spoilercast I really hadn't been craving any additional podcast content, and the one I would be most interested in checking out is the movie podcast, but unfortunately the 7 dollar tier is just out of my league if that's really how they're going to be handling that show. Yeah yeah, poor bum and all that, I just can't add anything to my monthly "bills" right now.

I've appreciated everything but Cup of Jones (which is incredibly Patreon centric and essentially every Patron gets access to it anyway) being accessible in some form down the line, even if backers of certain tiers get certain perks related to some of these shows. I never thought there'd be proper exclusives.

You know, I can't help but feel a bit miffed that information relevant to their Patreon project is being announced for the first time at a private event where only a limited number of people were able to attend.

It's hardly a major concern, but I honestly think that news affecting all patrons should have been reserved for their Thursday anniversary stream instead of trickled out at a private event they're trying to keep under wraps until the captured video is released publicly. Heck, I would have even settled for a public tweet announcing said information shortly after the initial reveal instead of what they're doing now.

It's just wrong that the sharing of these additions and updates to an unknowing base is leading to some reactions along the lines of "Spoilers, yo."

This thread overthinks this stuff way too much but I guess that is sort of the GAF way.

A movie podcast is great, it takes some discipline by the hosts though. Different international release dates for movies and TV shows are a thing so talk about new or current releases should always have plot spoilers at the end of their respective discussions with a small warning and a note in the show notes.
Whatever new shows they do I hope they have some patronage exclusivity built in, maybe even permanent.. I wouldn't mind making everything free, but with every creator being on Patreon these days people will need to plan their budgets and spread their money. If you want to grow you can't be too generous with the pay walls I'm afraid.

Talk about new movies is a bit boring, so I hope they spend some time discussing old ones. Maybe even have a movie club aspect to it - for example always post an old movie that will be discussed in advance to viewers can send in questions/comments about it for the show.

Oh man, a movie podcast AND a Damiani Nintendo podcast? That's amazing!! I needed more podcasts after what happened at KF. Are these podcasts with the current crew or is Damiani pulling from communities like he does with Zelda Talk?

I don't think you have to worry, it sounds like just a misunderstanding, and the $7 tier is a movie club thing, presumably like blood pact.

Yeah, that's not what's being said here but it's honestly what I'd expect considering how they've handled past rewards, I guess I should just wait until we get official information

I'll wait for the formal announcement with more details, but what we got so far is not really exciting for me personally. No Trailer Jones for 40k or a Bosman show as a goal is a bit disappointing.

I also agree that it was a poor way to announce the new tiers/shows.
It should've been an announcement on Cup of Jones, then a teaser trailer/logo for the audience and a full reveal on Tuesday during the stream, with all details. That would've been pretty good and no one could get the feeling of being left out.

All ind all, I have to say those are pretty lukewarm announcements.

Part of me wanted fewer patron tiers with more collective rewards. I'm not sure if it makes sense for them or not but it does for my OCD lol.

This backs my posts about how undefined their mes.. what they do is :3
I actually envisioned a future where they go full on KF and split their main channel into two: games and other stuff.

It was teased on the latest Cup of Jones that new shows, tiers, special features, and other additions would be announced and covered on the Thursday anniversary stream, but, in retrospect, I guess that wasn't an exclusive thing to the stream but rather a recap for folks who couldn't attend the concert event.

I don't mind Easy Allies branching out to other interests through various shows and what-have-you, but I certainly wouldn't be fond of them if they were to mimic Kinda Funny with a separate Patreon campaign for said interests.

New Movie podcast tier which will be exclusive to the $7 tier and above
New Nintendo focused podcast by Damiani

Next retro is Soulsborne.

Mishakoz didn't say that the Movie Podcast was for the $7 tier though. He said that both are at the 40k goal and that the $7 tier is some sort of Movie Club related to the podcast: could be similar to Blood Pact, something Patrons of that tier and above can vote on, or a discussion thing with Ian about movies.

New 40k tiers

Movie podcast hosted by Ian
Nintendo podcast, biweekly, by Daimiani

$7 access to movie club, presumably related to podcast

Movie podcast exclusive for $7 and up patrons would make no sense with the actual main podcast at $5 and Frame Trap still free.

Unless you were there too and heard it yourself I'd wait for the official announcement.

I have no interest in a movie podcast, but the Nintendocast sounds like it could be fun. Kind of odd to announce it for 40k considering how close we are to it already, but I'll gladly take it. At least we're almost sure to reach it.

Overall though, this (along with the retro) is weak stuff. They should be looking beyond into extending their fanbase but instead these moves are made to play into the already existing fans. This was the time to announce stuff like spoilercasts (still podcasts but at least can be kept shorter and are more evergreen in quality), let's plays, bringing more high production shows in (be it bosman, trailer score or any new idea they might have) etc. Instead we got retooled Damiani talk show and exclusive 7 dollar podcast.
I can see what you're saying. If the movie podcast ends up being entirely patron exclusive, it's not going to reach an audience outside of the already existing fan/support base. I feel like there has to be some kind of miscommunication here about its availability.

I can see Damiani's podcast bringing some new people in though because there are a lot of Nintendo fans looking for Nintendo related content.

The Nintendo podcast I also don't think always needs to be news focused. There are plenty of Nintendo related topics they can talk about that don't already feel old a month later. The Zelda Talk videos Damiani has been producing lately has been pretty good in this regard IMO. BotW DLC speculation is obviously going to get old in the not so far future, but putting focus on community content, like the spotlight on Zelda Universe won't get old anytime soon as long as those communities keep going strong.

Nice. They're not calling them "Soulsborne" though, are they? I've always thought that was a reallydumb term because what happens when (not if) FromSoft makes a new IP? Just keep adding parts of names on the end like a Frankenstein sub-genre? If there's a sub-genre name that makes the most sense it's "Souls-like", specifically after Demon's Souls, not Dark Souls, because it created this sub-genre.
Souls-like is commonly used for the sub-genre, but Soulsborne refers specifically to the Souls-likes made by FromSoftware. Nioh, for example, is a Souls-like, but not a Soulsborne game.

Soulsborne games are kind of the same series in everything but name. If/when FromSoftware create another new Souls-like series, it's up to the fans to figure out what to call it then. I don't think Soulsborne is a perfect shorthand for those games myself, but I do think it's clear and popular enough term to be used for the retrospective.

I'm not too familiar with the Souls games or Bloodborne, so I guess I'll just wait and let the video itself convince about whether this is a good topic for a retro' or not..
Was kinda hoping Kyle would have a show announcement since there's no activity on his own youtube channel. O well.
Kyle said during the last DGM that while they have new Patreon stuff in the works he thinks people would be interested in, but people shouldn't expect too much from them. I immediately took that as an almost confirmation that TFB-esque show wasn't going to happen anytime soon.

A PS podcast isn't a good idea because if Scorpio doesn't change the landscape dramatically, any multiplatform podcast is de facto Playstation centric. If it weren't for Nintendo and the Switch taking up a lot of time lately, you're already served better by EZA than by PS I Love You..

I kinda agree with you but at the same time, EZA have 8 people who appear on the podcasts and their only discussion based podcast, Frame Trap, is bi-weekly, so I feel like we miss out on a lot of possible discussion both from absent Allies and lack of time on FT. Just for example, I can remember there being a bit of disappointment in this thread at the lack of Gravity Rush 2 talk a couple episodes back because by the time Kyle, Brad and I'm not sure who else had played it, talk had already moved on to Nioh, For Honor, etc. So while I don't necessarily need a PS podcast, I would like it if they had more of an opportunity to discuss stuff.

As for the movie podcast, I think everyone should re-read mishakoz's post instead of focusing on Hasney's, since mishakoz was actually there:

Based on that it doesn't seem to me like they're locking the podcast behind a $7 tier paywall.

Having said that, mark me down as someone who supports the idea of Patreon exclusive podcasts, just not at $7 (which doesn't seem like much but adds up). The movie podcast could be the best movie podcast ever and they still wouldn't attract non-gamers to their Patreon because 99% of the content is still videogames but I do think it's a good idea to create incentives to convert Youtube subscribers into paying Patrons. It's not that different to Giant Bomb's Premium videos and podcasts.

I don't think it's "overthinking," but rather what you had in mind for expectations of new tiers or content. IMO, the bigger things people are hopeful for (new Bosman show, Trailer Jones, etc.) are probably not happening for the foreseeable future, at least until they get a studio.

About the new podcasts: I think both sound great. Only small hope is that the movie podcast is both Ian AND Huber, but that's just because I like hearing Huber talk about them. Either way, still excited for it & Damiani's podcast.

Edit: Oh, and the new retro sounds cool. Can't wait to see how that turns out.

But there was no need to tease on Cup of Jones that something new was coming, when they were going to announce the new shows/tiers on the same day. Now the patrons who couldn't attend have to wait for no reason.

I mean, they know announcements. They live for announcements. They know exactly what makes a good announcement. And yet this kinda feels fumbled and not eventful at all.

I've done enough complaining, I suppose my excuse is this isn't really a complaint? But while I know retros have always been series specific I can't help but think how great a general FromSoft retro would be here. Souls without King's Field is going to feel weird to me.

I'll be stunned if Huber isn't a permanent member of the Movie podcast. Kind of how he's essentially on every Frametrap (which I love)

Also I could see Bloodworth could be a regular member of the Nintendo podcast

Both are interesting, let's unlock that $40k tier and see them in action!

I still would love a spoilercast type show at some point. Ben talks about how quickly games fade away after launch but if they did a spoiler cast for various games 6 months later it'd be a great way of extending the conversations of games.

I don't think it's really something that moves the needle much from a tier placement deal but it'd be a great bookend to the lifecycle of games that are covered through EZA. Right now Frametrap is serving the role a bit. It having a separate video just on that game like they did for Dark Souls 3 last year would be awesome.

We knew it was happening because in this very thread last week or so Damiani said it was happening. Also the only reason we know what these are is because mishakoz "leaked it" here. All other people that attended on my twitter feed haven't mentioned it, nothing on the EZA forums, etc. it's the equivalent of Id showing Doom to the crowd that attended Quakecon. I just don't see it being a big deal to me at all.

It was fine for Brandon to mention that new things will be announced on the anniversary stream. In fact, I'd dare say it was necessary as development has gotten quite stale and CoJ serves as a community update of sorts regarding current events and whatnot.

What strikes me as bizarre with this whole situation is this VIP vibe the concert event has given off. There was no need for those teased announcements to be unveiled at the event only to then be followed up with no official fanfare until Thursday. It's only caused confusion for folks who couldn't attend as details are sparse due to being delivered through word-of-mouth instead of official channels.

That's a huge problem to me. I don't want to receive relevant information after the fact when I'm financially supporting Easy Allies via the same channels. It shouldn't matter how much I'm able to provide, where I'm located, or what I'm willing to do to receive news that's crucial to all Patreon supporters.

Having these announcements serve as timed exclusives to the attending audience is utter nonsense and promotes that destructive VIP vibe I just mentioned. I really, really hope it wasn't instructed to attendees to withhold the information with mishakoz serving as the "rogue" factor.

I'd love to see a spoilercast on BotW. In a way, I sort of wish I could take part in a spoiler-filled discussion like that myself having just finished the game two days ago and the rest of the shrines yesterday, but just being able to hear what the Allies have to say about it free of any restrictions would likely sate my appetite for the game.

So manyyyyy more interesting retros they should have done :( the soulsborne stuff is so widely known already and fresh in people's memories, we all know what happened with demon's souls and what led to dark souls. Sorry to be a downer but yeah, all that effort could have gone towards something much more interesting and rewarding.

Yeah, it's a bit weird.

It was kind of weird to announce new Patreon stuff at the event. I still mantain that this concert thing has been weird in general, even if it's been recorded. They could've done the concert on Thursday and have the mega-stream with all the announcements on Tuesday: it would've been a totally different situation and much better for everyone involved IMO. Brandon and Ian went on about how fans shouldn't feel excluded due to the concert, yet the whole things reeks of exclusivity. Frankly, if any game publisher had announced stuff their way, they'd criticize them to no end on the podcast. Also, you can see that by doing so there might have already been some miscommunication (about the movie podcast). We don't even know if Thursday they're just gonna recap or if they're gonna announce more stuff.

The announcements so far have been lukewarm, Kyle and Ben keep saying to insist on telling the Allies what we want so they can better understand it and correct their course, however they went with a movie podcast and a Nintendo podcast, something I've never seen anybody request.

Not saying they aren't going to be good or that I'm displeased: in fact I look very much forward to both! Still they keep dancing around what people actually do ask them to do:

- Trailer Score (which hasn't been lowered to 40k or below 45k as far as we know)
- a Bosman show (which he said times and times again he won't do without a studio)
- Best Of videos (I think they haven't even aknowledged the ones done by our resident gaffer, and I really don't get why)
- Spoilercasts/Just played
- More Game Sleuth and Retros

Also some nice ideas brought up in the past have been forgotten, like Huber doing a weekly/monthly RE2 speedrun stream, which would be compelling in the same way of Bos vs. Woz, as it would have an actual goal and more tension in it than the usual stuff. Also basically zero need for editing, as it would be just another stream.

I agree, it would have certainly been a different situation if the anniversary stream occurred first followed by the concert event and group meetup. I understand why they didn't go that route due to time constraints and scheduling, but it ended up giving this exclusive/VIP vibe to what was otherwise meant to serve as a celebration.

I don't believe this is some huge crisis that'll tear down the EZA brand, but I definitely can't say I feel all that great after seeing how this anniversary has been handled so far.

What I want from the Damiani Nintendo podcast:

- Filmed, not just audio like Zelda Talk (which is audio only for obvious reasons).

- It's ok to have guests, but the panel should be mainly composed by Allies.

- Talk mostly about past Nintendo games or general themes and things revolving around Nintendo. Leave most of the news to the weekly podcast.

- More structured than Zelda Talk, with actual segments and fun things.

What I'm saying is that there was no need to handle it like an exclusive Quakecon thing. Why would it be something like that anyway? The people attending already got to see them live, doing a concert and all that. All the other thousands of patrons out there got nothing out of the anniversary yesterday. It just came and went, which feels weird, because they made a really big deal out of it.

But this whole weird VIP vibe is exactly what I'm getting at and the bolded part is pretty much what I already said. They know how to announce things, they criticize it on a regular basis and as a patron, this didn't feel like a good thing at all.

I don't know why you're replying to me with this particular tone when I've agreed with you from the start. In fact, I believe I was the first one to state my grievances with how the Patreon specific information was announced.

I guess I was confused then, because your first response to my reply felt like you were sort of disagreeing with me and my last reply was just to make sure that we both agreed on it. I'm sorry for the confusion. I didn't mean to argue with you over nothing.

I'll probably update my $5 to $7 for the movie podcast. Pretty big movie buff, really hope they don't do just small / indie stuff though - keep it balanced. Can't wait!

For all those who didn't go to the event.

It was very strange. I don't mean that in a bad way.
1) there were "act outs" of tabletop escapades and fiasconauts scenes. Entertaining enough.
2) Bloodworth had some weird video that I'll admit I don understand
3) retro trailers
4) Don's design Lab lost episode
5) Mike D. Told the story of how he joined GT in a "fairytale" fashion
6) Kyle sang a love song about the Joey Tetris piece
7) Huber clarinet playing
8) Jones singing, including snake Eater.
9) closing out with Ian playing songs with a band

I wish y'all could see it but the lighting was crap so I very much doubt any video of this will be good. I left my video camera in my car after seeing the patreon post but then another fan was allowed, even encouraged to tape.

Anyway, after there was a lot of chit chatting with the Allies. I'm sure like many people I would have just wanted a meet and greet or them to play games with fans or whatever (I imagine a line to play 1 2 Switch with Huber) but I don't know. The concert was a very quirky thing to do.

That's me too. Old classic, indie, foreign, blockbuster cover everything!
I trust Huber and Ian's taste.

It was cool for Tim to take time out to mention EZAs anniversary on the Kinda Funny morning show, even cooler to give kudos to Brad and Huber. Tim saying Huber is his mirror image just makes me want him to do something with the Allies even more (although he did play snipperclips with Blood).

Dude, they are trying to put it together, so please spoiler tag that for those that don't want to know before it's up.

*tries hard to forget reading so I can be surprised by the video* :p

Can't wait for the Thursday stream. Going to be going back and forth with that & Power Rangers lol. :p
