Edge #269 bloodborne

Gamescom and TGS? Good show From, good show.

Just finished Demon's Souls getting really excited for Bloodbourne. If I was going to play one of the Dark games, I should probably play the first one right? It seems like the only advantage 2 has over it is a graphical upgrade, is that a fair statement?

There is 0 mention of another director.

edit: nm he says he has someone, interesting no names.
I guess we will know soon enough. I really am just curious, I was accused of concern trolling earlier but I don't see why I would do that when I already pre-ordered the game and paid it in full with a gift card.

If Miyazaki's assistant actually was a director they would say there's two directors on Bloodborne and we would know the identify of him/her.

It is worded weirdly, I guess we will see if the second director is credited as a director or assistant director when the game comes out.

I haven't played DSII yet, but everything I've read suggests the first game is significantly superior.

First I was sad because Dark Souls 2 wouldnt be released on PS4 / Xbox One. Now, I couldnt care less! Am hyped for Bloodborn now, this game feels sick!

I expected a new trailer at TGS thats it. DkS had 2 trailers before release so either we're getting two trailers or a gameplay demo/being playable and a trailer. Either way I am hyped!

Regarding the teaser for next month, on the iPad version it simply has the message

'This story begins with the end of the world.'

With a slight pause every three words.

I wonder if we'll get any weapon that resembles the Claymore in moveset. I just need one for this.

Why not play both? There's still plenty of time to do it. Both Dark Souls games are great and worth playing, but different. Don't let yourself think the second game is bad because of the lots of hyperbole and nitpicking that happens around here. The game does have problems, all of the games in the series have them, but lots of problems people trash the game for having exist or existed in DS1 too.

I recommend starting with the first one to follow the order, but all of them are definately worth playing.

Just did a little digging and it's from the trailer from last years Gamescom for 'Everybody's Gone To Rapture'.

I've only just got membership and I'm not sure what sites I can and can't link to, but if you search for the phrase, it should come up!

It's 'worded weirdly' probably because a gaffer translated the whole interview himself and I don't believe this person/assistant will be credited down the line if he wasn't now when he was specifically asked about it. If there really was a second director we would know at this point really. Why are you so hellbent on the idea of a second director when it doesn't make sense to have him in the shadows, giving this person no credit for being in this supposedly director role besides Miya?

In any case, from what I've read Miyazaki is pretty much the sole creative force in this really, so I don't think it matters anyway.

Yeah I'm not really sure that I understand Persona7's weird concern here. Everyone already knows Miyazaki is the director.

Isn't it safe to assume that the co-director is someone from Japan Studios and they are more in charge of the technical/network aspects while Miyazaki focuses on story and mechanics?

borne (bɔːn/)
suffix: -borne; adjective: borne

carried or transported by the thing specified.
"waterborne bacteria"

Nothing to do with "born" actually, it comes from "bear".

Actually they were originally the same word. It's only relatively recently (the last two centuries) that people have started putting the e at the end of borne. Prior to that it was the same word as born.

Basically that's right. Dark Souls is a much better game than Dark Souls 2.

No, there are a number of things improved in the sequel. But yes, the original Dark Souls is still the superior game, all things considered.

A friend of mine just brought me last week's Famitsu with Bloodborne on the cover. It has a decent length interview with Miyazaki.

Would you folks be interested in a translation? I'm pretty busy with work, but I might be able to get it done this month.

Also, I'm junior -- can't make my own thread. :(

Dark Souls is way better than Demon's Souls. Thankfully, Bloodborne's level design seems to take more from Dark Souls. Progress!

And both are way better than Demon's Souls

I personally think Demon's Souls is about as good a game as Dark Souls. Whether you like it or not will depend on how much you're willing to overlook its occasional bouts of antiquated gameplay (the limited inventory and the weapon upgrade system, basically). It really excels at atmosphere, though, even moreso than Dark Souls.

close enough

Whenever I see this image, I begin wondering whether this teaser was for the project that got cancelled.

Also, I haven't played Demons' Souls (have it in my PS+ backlog) and Dark Souils, but I am excited for Bloodborne.

I think that's pretty accurate. I do think Dark Souls deserves a few more >s in the level design and PvE combat categories, though.

I only gave it 1 up on Demon's in level design because of the winding nature we see in Dark Souls started in Demons. Dark Souls 1 just took it one step further by adding a fully connected world.

I find Dark Souls PVP to be vastly superior to DS2... Even if I thought the mechanics were better, which I don't, Soul Memory alone ruins it for me. I wouldn't really argue if someone said Dark Souls 2 is better in PVE though.

Story is the primary factor for any game to me. And i really thought Demon's had a weak story, but at least the gameplay was good. And all 3 Souls games are still better than 90% of anything out there in the market.
