It really isn't though (well i'm thinking 300 USD). It's a true hybrid, it's your phone (read: tablet), your handheld, and your home console all in one package. It's $300. you can buy a 3DS for $200, a ps4 for $300, and your phone for $200-800 respectively.
I understand it's not as powerful as a ps4, but the ps4 is a traditional console, the Switch isn't. So trade offs happen. You get a much better array of higher quality games than you would on your handheld and phone, along numerous control schemes to fit your comfort. I think the lot of people are just saying POWER POWER POWER, as the reason of it being "too much", but a fun game is a fun game. it just has to be pretty enough, not so much bleeding edge.
It's a very versatile console in a very sleek and compact package. for $300. I'm not sure how it'll do, but I do think the value is there. think of it like everything else with a smaller form factor of a larger counter part. you get less, it costs more, but it's more versatile.
