LOL, why in the world would they try to run a beta against Diablo 4? Then again, Blizzard's servers will no doubt crash and burn, so maybe they can pick up a lot of people during downtime.

They probably had this period planned for a while, same as blizzard. Scheduling just happens that way sometimes.
Besides, I don't think there's much overlap between the people waiting to check out the respective betas.

The little marketing they've done for this suggests they must only expect fans to be checking it out (actually I'm starting to believe capcom doesn't really have faith in exoprimal)

I played a match a few minutes ago, didn't realize it opened today.

Reminded me of Resistance 2 online COOP....ALOT. Like it was pretty much beat for beat R2 coop but with more loadouts.

Not quite sure what Capcom sees in this game. I probably won't ever play it again. It wasn't bad but yea, not for me.

edit- Punished Miku Punished Miku

The PVP is that you and another team are doing the same thing but you don't see each other. The AI tells you if you're behind or ahead and towards the end the team behind was able to send more enemies your way and spawn dinos that they could control. My team actually won and the combat was entertaining for what it was. Thankfully people played their roles well. I can see the PVP aspect nuking the game though like Project: Resistance. Capcom better keep an eye on exploits cause weebs who cheese to win will ruin any potential for a community.

This game is gonna omegaflop.

It's Destiny 2 Gambit with robot suits. And Gambit is easily the worst.

How would you compare the Co-op to Lost Planet 2?

Edit: Ok yeah - its just in the storefronts of your platform of choice.
Just make sure you have the Capcom ID linked to that platform.

Just finished the tutorial and really liking what I see so far, gameplay feels good. Enjoyed the matches that I played, more overwatch than I thought it would be.

The first objective of a match is to see which team can eliminate dinos faster, it then switches to a pvp with dino grunts around.

Did one game, it's pretty fun but it seems there are no PVE only modes in this game?
The game mode in this test is basically if you mash destiny's gambit together with overwatch.
You've got the class based teams that are doing objectives, and when completed it goes into an escort mission, this is where the pvpve starts; you can "invade" the enemy team's side by summoning a dinosaur and stop them from escorting their objective.
Near the end the teams are close enough together that you can just go and attack them yourself.

It's not bad, but I was hoping for some PVE only stuff.

Man, I actually kind of enjoy this lol but I can't believe it comes with a 50EU(?!) price tag.

It seems every Capcom multiplayer venture is destined to fail.

I played two matches and they were very different from one another. In the first one, after dispatching an inordinate amount of dinos, we ended up having to push a payload while also directly engaging the other team in combat. It felt very much like Capcom's take on Overwatch (and it was a lot of fun). In the 2nd match we never saw the enemy team directly and instead we were instructed to hold a zone (something to do with a hammer?). In that mode the only interaction with the enemy team was that they were summoning dinos into our match.

It seems there's definitely plenty of variety if these two matches are any indication. Still a shame there's no regular co-op though. This could've been next-gen Lost Planet basically.

Really struggled just getting to a match The dialogue and presentation is very... Cringey? Don't like that word but I don't know how else to describe it.

Also don't care for this to be mixed with pvp. Just let me shoot hordes and hordes of dinosaurs.

Just not for me I don't think.

What an absurd time to release this at. And you need a "CAPCOM ID" to even bother. Ugh.

. . .that said, I'm glad I'm not a wild cynic, because there's definitely meat on the bones of this game if they decide to support it well enough. Games feels like a cross between WF and OW (at least from the first objective). Each of the EXOPRIMALS all feel pretty different to play (I have no idea why I can't scope what my actual abilities do and had to suss it out from just using the damn thing). There needs to a be a TON more information communicated to the player regarding what is going on (LEVIATHAN just isn't going to cut it).

Overall, will definitely be checking the game out, but that price point might be shooting them in the foot (especially with the existence of this "Survival Pass" that I didn't know about).

Also, I really like the "lore hook" on why you'd be willing to do this over and over again. Much more sinister than what I was expecting from a game like this.

Going to try this out tomorrow. Seems a lot of people are liking it.

Anyone have thoughts here about it? Been pretty quiet.

Hold up is this game anthem with dinos?
Not quite. After playing this beta for a bit, the best way to describe Exoprimal is that this would have been an early 2000s arcade cabinet that would have had an elaborate movable rig attached to it, and it would have been connected to other cabinets of the same type. So basically, this is like when the Dreamcast would have those arcade-style games that felt really fun to play on a demo disc, but you'd only rent it or borrow the full version from a friend because you knew it would be a few hours of fun and then back onto the shelf.

You go from arena area to arena area fighting dinosaurs together while the game announcer constantly talks in the background(much like an arcade game). There's tons of visual noise happening, yet somehow it manages to flow well enough to be a fun romp(much like a hectic arcade game). Then, at the very end it becomes PvP between you and the other team while dinosaurs are still attacking and causing chaos. The games lasted about 15-20 minutes each.

If this were an arcade cabinet I would have felt like I've gotten way more than what I paid for, and would have left the experience very pleased. As I played the beta I started to think about if this should have ended up as an arcade machine instead, but then I realized that arcades are close to dying or dead anyway. That is partly why something like Exoprimal happens to exist on Steam and consoles. I'm hoping whatever campaign and other modes the full release has, will make up for the beta's impression, because as of now I'm thinking this should have just been a free game with monetary cosmetics instead.

tl;dr It's a burst of fun much like an arcade machine, but I don't know if it will have legs.

Just played a match and it was really cool. I definitely dig the game. However, I was kinda hoping for more EDF with dinosaurs. Kinda strange that if it exists that it is not in the beta. The forced pvp format is kinda weird but I can dig it.
The graphics are very pleasing and very "capcomlike" in my eyes. Something about that "arcade" look to me and I love it. There is just something cool about changing mechs mid match.
So far I am digging it. Trying to get some friends to play this. It would be really nice to get this going with a solid group of buddies. Otherwise the lack of role coordination is going to be really sucky in some matches.

I had great fun with it too, It's early 2000s Capcom to a fault. That might also be it's problem.

If this doesn't sell, Capcom will learn the worst lessons from it's failure, and that worries me. They must have really, really believed in this game to charge full price.

Exoprimal beta is a PvPvE Overwatch but without the charisma, and I don’t like Overwatch.

The dinosaur stuff and the robot stuff is cool, but I was hoping for more humor during gameplay (the cutscene in the beginning was fun, but I don’t get that in-game) and the match is barebones. I get the feeling this game will be a cult-classic, obscured by Zelda & FF16, that, by the time people take notice this came out, it’s too late and the servers are shutdown.

Played a couple of hours and it's not for me. Character customization is bare bones and Exosuits have more personality than your character does. Maybe you'll have more customization options on release. Match making is pretty good, but I'm not a fan of PvEvP aspect of the game.

Btw what were people's favorite suits? Mine would have be Muramusa
Specs for those of us too lazy to look them up?

Exoprimal beta is a PvPvE Overwatch but without the charisma, and I don’t like Overwatch.
I've played the game some more and I wanted to address this post. Again, like the other comparison above, it kind of is similar but it kind of isn't. I actually think there are a few things from this game that Overwatch should take inspiration from, because Exoprimal does a good job of making the player feel like they're contributing to the team rather than hindering it. Overwatch relies far too heavily on teammates' performance which ends up in everyone being angry at each other. The game is designed in tons of ways to punish you heavily and piss you off when your team isn't doing well.

+Exoprimal's first part of the match is like a race between both teams. Overwatch doesn't have this. It could. I think it would be fun for you to fight PvE enemies in Overwatch as a way to earn points and warm up for the second half as a pvp encounter. Maybe when they release PvE this can happen.

+Exoprimal's matches are shorter(for now). Overwatch matches still last way too long and because of that they can be draining experiences, especially in Cart matches in ranked that are double overtime. That's easily 40+ minutes gone for one match and if you lose at the end of it, you will feel like it's 40+ minutes wasted for nothing. This is why I played things like ranked mode less and less over time to the point where I've finally shelved the game until the PvE campaign releases.

+Exoprimal is point based instead of based on hard captures. This bring positives to the team because even your weakest member can contribute as long as they're doing something. To explain:

Overwatch relies too heavily on one central mechanic to win a match. You don't earn any meaningful points towards the match for performing well. It's either you capture the point or not, so having high kills don't count. It's either you push the cart or you don't, so having high kills don't count. It's either you capture the flag or you don't. It's either you get the final shot on an enemy in deathmatch/TDM or you don't. The last two are extremely frustrating because CTF in Overwatch ends up in stalemates until the flag moves closer and DM in Overwatch makes you feel robbed because your assists counts towards nothing(whereas in other modern DM games they count towards an overall score system).

I'm not saying Exoprimal is superior, because it has it's own issues that need to be ironed out:

-The readability of what's going on is insanely difficult, especially when the PvP starts. The enemy character models feel tiny to look at for some reason, are barely outlined, and can easily be obscured by the hundreds of dinosaurs that can be on the map at any given time. It's even worse for your friendlies, who if I recall weren't even highlighted in the match. There were multiple times where I managed to take someone out in the middle of a swarm unknowingly or I was taken out due to the swarm taking up my view. It just becomes a chaotic game of chance at that point to hope that your fancy moves connected with an enemy because your spacing is also an issue on top of all of this.

-The character voices and skill uses are not loud enough. There were times I didn't even know a friendly behind me had died because I'm too busy hearing dinosaur roars constantly, my own mech's noise, someone else's machine gun, blaring music, and the announcer who never shuts up. I'm fighting and protecting others (as a tank) and then I suddenly turn around and one or two teammates are dead(from either an enemy team flanker or a sudden surprise dinosaur with a bomb on his back).

-Speaking of readability, the colors are too muted for the main characters, their silhouettes aren't good enough, and the UI is a bit too cluttered. As much shit as people give Blizzard all the time, there's something to be said about their UI and gameplay departments spending weeks and weeks making absolutely sure that every little thing in a game like Overwatch is recognizable and readable. You know exactly what a Mercy ult looks like and why it looks different than an Ana ult or Kiriko ult. You know exactly how they walk differently, look differently, their different heights, gun sounds, icons, silhouettes, all of it is made to be as readable as possible. When I hear 'Hammer Down' and a big boom from across the map, I know there's a high likelihood one of my teammates has been knocked down by a Rein and is about to appear on the kill feed. In Exoprimal, I don't hear the ult of the guy that freezes you in place. When it does happen, it's way too late. I don't hear the crazy ult of the guy with the sword and I just get hit by it wondering what just happened. It's the same way they don't hear my whirlwind ult and they all get caught up in it(as they're probably wondering how it happened).

-Too many things from outside of your vision have the capability to knock you back 100 feet away from your team, leaving you to try and haul back to them as fast as possible because they aren't equipped to tank a T-Rex boss fight and I'm the guy who's supposed to be tanking, but there's too many other factors outside of that T-Rex causing me to flail about, or simply, the T-Rex will do a stun grab move that throws me back itself.

In terms of what's happening on the screen, the way I feel about Exoprimal is the way casual gamers and non-gamers feel about looking at gameplay of Overwatch. You're just seeing literal chaos on screen almost at all times and that's why I've stated above, from an arcade/pick up and play aspect, it's a fun time. However, for anything else, the Exoprimal devs need to look at other games and re-do a lot of the look of the game to make it more readable. Even the Gundam OW clone does a way better job at readability and that game has bland and repeatable map environments.

tl;dr Overwatch could rely more on point systems and making your weaker teammates still contribute like Exoprimal, and Exoprimal could rely more on making literally everything on screen more readable like Overwatch.

Played 5 rounds, won all 5.

The issue with the current game mode "wargame" is the PvPvE aspect, you can be far ahead most of the match but this is actually just a front because all that matters is the final point which is PvP.

for example, I got stuck with a group of crossplay console players, this naturally meant they where utterly terrible, had there mics constantly on (voice activated by default )fighting with their wife and didn't understand how objectives past "shoot the thing" works in games. despite playing zephyr a high mobility, low armor melle exo, I was forced to pick up the hammer slowing me to a crawl, because the other 4 players including the tank for the team (who do not get slowed by hammer) ran past it.

in the end I managed to pull through a win despite the other team getting a T-rex and getting to 100% hammer faster because I camped the final point and killed their exo's until finally the support picked up the hammer ran to the point and died, allowing me to pick it up and finish the job.

The key issue is during the PvE part of the game im having fun, during the PvP part its an utter unfun clusterfuck, especially if the RNG rolls powercell as the final objective. They REALLY need to drop this as the core game mode to find any success. On the survey afterwards they actually asked if I would be interested in a 10 player coop mode, WHY THE HELL DID THEY NOT LEAD WITH THAT?!

One thing I will say, the game is slick, very slick, it feels like a Premium Capcom product. The issue is this is Capcoms attempt at a live service game and all I can think is full priced game + battle pass + weird not specifically fun PvPvE focus. The game launched 5 years too late and has no idea what its actually trying to be and will either need to go F2P in its current form and die next year, or launch as is now and die this year.

Also had to make a new post about this

But it seems Capcom finally fingured out their target audience, and picked streamers for their official stream that most fell in line with that demographic which you can watch above.

Joking aside I lost my first match last night, it certainly does make 90% of the match feel uttely pointless when it literally all comes down to the single PvP portion of the map.

It's an intresting design choice, when you win you feel relief at being rewarded for something you are owed anyway, when you lose you feel like you have uttely wasted your time.

I don't think iv played a game that feels so negative on win or loss, in many ways there's nothing quite like it.

Man I was hoping this would be a spiritual successor to Lost Planet of sorts - but its a mess of a Overwatch/new age multiplayer pve mixed with pvp crap that I absolutely hate with a passion.
I kinda had this one on the back burner for a potential Japanese 360-era sleeper hit - but this demo killed all that hype.

I respect Capcom for branching out, but this game is not for me - and its absolutely NOT Lost Planet at all.

STARSBarry STARSBarry thankfully a ton of different outlets and social media websites have all been saying they prefer to have a PvE-only mode, or they want PvP to only be the first half of the match(the two teams racing) rather than the second half. We will see what comes of it and see if the JP audience feels the same.

They should make this game F2P before it's too late. Will be DOA otherwise. They can make a bigger return by just giving it good long-term support and some battle passes.
