Favorite Anime Trope?

Someone's soul leaving them after getting hit really hard. Always cracks me up.

History's greatest disciple Kenichi did this a lot when Kenichi would spar with appachai.

Super Robot Wars battle animations are a treasure trove for these.
And I love them all.

EDIT: Yelling attack names too.

I'm pretty sure my appreciation for these is a holdover from my childhood years watching DBZ.
 
i really like the timeskips and then we see our heroes more mature and grown up.

i mean having your veins visible when you are angry is a general trope, not exclusive to anime

Oh my god yes. Best recent version of this is the end of Jojo Part 2, because you don't realize that
Joseph unconsciously using the Red Stone of Aja to block Kars' attack
is the beginning of the end until the opening from Part 1 suddenly starts playing. It all leads to a hype and completely ridiculous ending that became one of my favorite story climaxes ever.

Yeah, but I first saw that symbol used in Tales of Destiny as a thought bubble so I thought it was practically fixed in anime as trope

Real talk, I once drove a couple hours with my then girlfriend to go to the coast. I said the same fucking thing, "IT'S THE OCEAN!" and then laughed at how absurd it was.

For me, personally:

The point where someone goes above and beyond what you've seen them do before (PLUS ULTRA, Etc.)

As you can tell, I live for the anime fight scenes.
 
Another favourite: audible breasts.

It's the glacé cherry that sits atop the (inevitably boob-shaped) cake of Gainax-tier boob jiggle animation: the breasts make sounds like a bouncy rubber ball when agitated. Usually only on focus, but I have noticed on occasion some shows when this happens on every motion. I can't imagine what it's like to have that job, to go through the animatics/key visuals and note down "insert Small Boing #008 at 12:04:32". I think maybe it's the job I've always wanted.

I've heard that this doesn't happen with real breasts (I've yet to find out, personally), and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a tiny bit disappointed.
 
Outsider High school lads:

- Being the chosen one
- Gaining some kind of super abilities / fighting skills
- Having an attractive female friend who always liked them
- Not being entirely human (explaining why there were always "different")
- Being studious / intelligent
- Not liking violence but are effortlessly the most powerful

A lot of this applies to other forms of media too, but seems prevalent in alot of Anime.

Big ups for:

- Glare on the glasses
- Final 1v1 duels with the antagonist (potentially with the opening playing) in some gorgeous environment
- The running slash, pause, blood gush trope (preceded by a long pause)

Another great one! It's even better when it's almost completely out of nowhere or the villain was actually on the side of good the whole time. There's that amazing moment in Kill La Kill when
Satsuki impales her own (insanely evil) mother from behind mid-speech, throws her into a spike on a wall, and vows that she will defeat her. The main antagonist for the first half of the series pulling that shit midway through the show instead of stretching it out for more episodes blew me away.

Another trope that I don't see as much anymore is the giant sweatdrop when a character is embarrassed or annoyed. One of my favorite one-off gags from the original Slayers was Lina Inverse grabbing her own giant sweatdrop and then cracking it over the head of Gourry for some stupid shit he did.
 
The Smoke Shield Trope

Either a Macross Missile Massacre, a plethora of Ki Attacks, or The Worf Barrage are sent towards the enemy. This results in a cloud of smoke or dust obscuring the opponent.

If those attacking really want to doom themselves, they can make comments to the effect of "No One Could Survive That!!"

The cloud dissipates; and either the enemy is revealed without a scratch (often surrounded by a Beehive Barrier), or they're not there anymore, having jumped into the sky when nobody was looking, and are quickly descending upon the attacker's head. Expect this trope to be accompanied by a pause in the music during the smoke formation, after which it either doesn't resume if the enemy escaped, or come back on loudly, usually with liberal doses of bass instruments, if he survives.

This one is really good, got some powerful Team Rocket remembrances just now, haha.

It is fun that there are variations on it. Sometimes the person that was launched into the stratosphere reappears near instantly but sometimes they only show up later, muddied and torn up from the long trek back.
 
I dont watch anime and i dunno if its a trope itself but i love how everyone is awesome in JoJo.

Jojo just doing a pose standing can be awesome. Love that kind of style.
