Oh. I assumed that when you said current tech could benefit from turn based, you meant modern graphics. In what ways do you think current tech could benefit?
No, I said how current tech could benefit it (turn based), not benefit from it.
Sure, graphically. It'd be nice to be able to sit back and watch such fidelity play out in detail at consistent pace instead of being so preoccupied with hammering in commands, defending, and evading that such appreciation goes by the wayside in consideration of what needs to be done moment to moment. Part of my main problem with this new battle system is it doesn't afford me much time to really sit back and enjoy the show because I have to be so actively involved in it at any given moment. It's largely turned FFVII from a strategy game into a fighting game. There is much that could be accomplished in setting, tone, escalation, and the pacing of battles that cannot be controlled when you place all the agency in the player's hands as this new battle system does. The more formidable enemies could be made truly epic in their presentations and escalations if the developers had kept it turn-based, and hence kept the dramatic ebb and flow of a battle in their hands as opposed to the player's.
Better tech could also afford the ability to get rid of the need to delineate between exploration and encounter, as the OG did. It could use the approach of Parasite Eve or Vagrant Story, yet still adhering to the old style FFVII line up. There are a ton of things that could be done. Positioning, environmental and elemental considerations, destructible environments, etc.
