Interesting... I know FF Type-O is a great game but it is getting reviews akin to FFXIII-2 and LR.
That's about what I expected.
I played a bit of the PSP version (before my PSP decided to take a dump and I got distracted by other shit and decided just to wait it out for the HD version... so that I could justify getting it for the XV demo). Anyway, the game is typical Square Enix spinoff stuff. It has all the problems that XIII-2 and LR had: A bunch of gameplay jankiness hindering a few innovative ideas, a bunch of half baked ideas, a storyline that doesn't make much sense at all, and overall much less polish than a mainline game. I do applaud SE for their experimentation in the RPG genre, but it doesn't always work quite as well as the fully polished brothers they also put out. Hell, even those sometimes get lampooned (FFXIII). Don't get me wrong, I actually rather liked the whole XIII saga, warts and all. I thought they were better games than the scores they got would imply (then again, I kind of think most JRPGs deserve better scores).
I didn't have much problems with the camera on the PSP, but the battle system seemed kind of weird. I didn't quite like what I saw of the Kill Sight mechanic. There were way too many characters. Those characters didn't seem to have much personality. The story was kind of out there. On top of that, Type-0 was built for mobile platforms. Like everything about it from what I played was built to be played on the go. I have always been worried about that translation to consoles.
I personally think anyone hyped up and thinking this is a better game than FFXIII will be disappointed. It isn't. Then again, I suppose I thought anyone who thought XIII-2 was a better game than XIII was fucking nuts, too.
Anyway, that's my long take. I'm expecting reviews similar to XIII-2 and LR. This isn't the return to FF glory that some people have expected for years. It's a quirky spinoff title with some interesting ideas and some heart to it. Luckily, that's what I'm in the mood for right now.
You can beat the game in 25 hours BUT you really need to play through at least a second time to get the rest of the story.
Seriously? Is this like "get a few more cutscenes" type of story, or are you saying a lot of story is given the 2nd time? I really really hate mechanics like that...
