Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

I suppose one good thing is that there are still three or four Japanese FE games I'd be interested in importing and playing. Even if I give up on the new games going forward there is still some "new" FE left to be had.

Missed the initial Direct after sleeping in. my thoughts are that this is...interesting.

I'm all for castle building mode, everything looks like a lot of fun and I'm a sucker for building simulators. the Amie stuff is...conflicting. If there's more options for interaction like talking in addition to the petting, I can rationalize it pretty easily. But since I don't speak Japanese (outside of a phrase that means 'a little, but I'm not skilled yet' and some random words from high school...), I don't know what the extent of this Amie is.

Come on man. Rubbing people and petting their foreheads like they're pets cannot be taken as anything but derogatory.

The problem is, if you could rub Villager's face most people would be ok with it because "its a cute" character. But Fire Emblem? Muh saga is d3d.
Have you never pet your nephew's(or w/e it is in your case) hair/head?

i consider rubbing faces to be creepy tbh. different strokes 4 different folks

I don't know, you could just interpret it as patting somebody on their shoulder or hugging them. I mean using the stylus on the touchpad probably doesn't mean you're literally pricking someone with the avatar's finger.

Don't care about the Amie/Hot Springs stuff. Optional stuff never really put me off of any game. As long as I can still have fun with the strategy elements, I'm cool.

Base building sounds like it could be really fun. Interesting to see how it pans out.

it's just about the tonal discrepancy. like you go do some battle where you are playing an intense srpg killing units and stuff, and then u come back to base and ur like "nice pegasus knight, u killed many units today *rub rub* uguu~"

its just dumb. the whole idea is turning me off the game.

These characters aren't five years old. :lol bringing in family members as a valid argument. Infantilizing adults or late teenagers is weird you people.

Because petting a young relative on the head and petting a grown ass man in a butler outfit are totally the same thing.

I think I'll simply wait and see how important the petting stuff is. If I can ignore it, then that's makes it easy for me to move on with my life and not mashing at a keyboard about it.

These people are being deliberately obtuse, I wouldn't bother with them.

Either that, or they've never physically touched someone on their face in a romantic or supportive context, which is clearly what the point of the Amie thing is.

It's likely that the rubbing feature will be restricted to characters with which the avatar has an A or S ranked support. Thus the player will be rubbing close friends and partners.

My opinion is: who cares. If you don't like patting heads, don't do it. I completely ignored Amie in Pokemon and it did not negatively affect my competitive game.

This whole conversation is blown out of proportion.

That makes the most sense.

As did I.

Yes, I'm sure that's the point of it. It's definitely not for pandering to the waifu loving crowd whose first FE game was Awakening

Feel free to call me w/e you want. However, I find more "deliberately obtuse" those who can not understand that this is a video game.

"Either that, or they've never physically killed someone on their face in with a shotgun, which is clearly what the point of the GTA game is."

Same argument, different game. As long is a Videogame and there is nothing illegal, not problem with me.

Hell, I barely watch anime(once a year at most). I have a daughter (which my avatar is based on), she might love it the rubbing thing in FE, who knows.

The Amiibo support bothers me more than the stylus rubbing sequence. Does it have to be shoehorned into EVERY FUCKING GAME? And the worst part is, the Fire Emblem Amiibos are notoriously difficult to find.

Is there a thread where you don´t complain about amiibo? We know you hate them, just ignore them.

Problem is Pokémon has a solid foundation as a competitive game. Fire Emblem is shaking up the mechanics and has to rely on map design and aforementioned mechanics to bring in a competitive game.

Not you, the people you're replying to.

Guys I just bought a hot fudge sundae and they gave me a bag of peanuts that I could put on if I want. I hate peanuts. Fuck this entire sundae now for them giving me the peanuts to add if I chose to.

Seriously though the base building looks really interesting and I normally don't like base building. Hopefully there is a lot of freedom in it.

Saw a bit of the direct vud before it crashed ( thanks YouTube app). I think it showed a unit at level 40. Interesting...

Quick and dirty

Well, this dropped right off my radar. WTF?!?!?

Yeah, I could care less for pokeamie thing but I'm not dropping the game because of it, I think that's silly.

Its still Fire Emblem.

I can understand being annoyed by people repeatedly describing female characters with the term "waifu". But what annoys me more than that are people who claim to hate the word yet use it at every opportunity.

That said, I can't tell whether this base building portion is optional or not. It seems like an expanded barracks option, however the video only displays what looks like the Hoshido side, which makes it unclear whether or not this is available in both versions since I thought Nohr did not have any kind of world map or explorable areas aside from the main missions.

I think this will be more interesting than Awakening from a gameplay perspective, because of the changes to the Dual Up system and how weapon durability and individual statistics are being modified compared to previous games.

both side will have this feature, not Hoshido only as there's exclusive item sold for each side. one thing i wonder is how this will affect the 'non-grindy, hard mode' of Nohr side like they'll claiming before...

I'm not going to stop complaining until they stop being a problem.

Its a problem for you, not for me. I enjoy collecting amiibo so more excuses to use my amiibo is a good thing to me. But you don´t see me complaining that more games should have even more amiibo compatibility.

But yeah, sorry for calling you out, to each its own I guess.

People pet people on the head though in real life. It's a sign of affection usually. I get what you mean by that though but I don't think it's that bad.

And yes I agree with you in Pokemon. At least Super Training helped with EVs (but even that shit became tedious.)
If you are serious about EV training you should never use Super Training.

Well, this dropped right off my radar. WTF?!?!?

This series is dead to me.

No interest in the game because of how easy Awakening was for me after a point and such but, I still don't see the outrage or how this could make you not want a game. Something you can just avoid.

Well I don't like using outside programs either so this is where I am at.

Going to preface this with I don't give a shit about Amiibos or the dlc.

There is a problem with tying DLC with items that have a limited run like the Amiibos do. They need to either up their manufacturing of the Amiibo or make the dlc purchasable per game.

You DON'T have to use outside programs to EV train a pokemon. Use horde battles

It seems they did buff up the weapon prices due to lack of durability based on the prices seen in the shop and the amount of gold the player had in the footage

It kind of makes sense there, too. Looks to me like the My Castle part is to be the downtime part of the game, much like the World Map was in Awakening. Only much more expanded than that. But that also comes with an interesting little twist on the formula. Your downtime hobby in Awakening was fighting off the Risen, which game you EXP and made your characters more powerful than the difficulty curve, even if you only fought the Risen that appeared normally, and didn't summon any.

In If, your hobby is base building. Which is pretty awesome and will let you get all kinds of neat stuff to use in battle, no doubt. But it's not grinding for EXP now, is it? Unless there's a building for that. There might be.

As for needing a downtime area, well, Awakening had the rather unique aspect for a Fire Emblem game that if you only had ten minutes to play, you could still do stuff and feel like you progressed. Most Risen fights didn't take much longer than that, even with animations on. Giving Fire Emblem If something like this, only expanded upon seems like a natural evolution. But if you want to avoid players snapping the difficulty in half any mroe than allowed, then it has to be lateral to the EXP gaining process. So... My Castle. They might have overcompensated a bit, though, but it makes sense for a portable Fire Emblem to have an interactive rest area.

Dang, I have such mixed feelings about this. For everything annoying or offputting, they have cool and awesome features.

I love the Suikoden vibe from the castle building and the main character being a dragon, but I don't like the 2 versions thing.

I liked Kozaki's Awakening designs, but this time they seem more bland anime, like maids and little sisters and most of the females have this sickeningly cutesy vibe/look to them and a generic baby-doll face where they look 11 years old. FE:A had "cute" girls like Lissa and Sumia, but it also had designs like Sully, Kjelle, Flavia, Cordelia, Panne, and Miriel. More diversity. Most of the females in this game look like they have to be as "kawaii" as possible to appeal to the modern anime slice-of-life fans who need every girl to be "the perfect waifu" or "best girl". The male designs look better, but even most of them look less memorable than Awakening. I like the big blonde buff guy in that Pokemon amie thing, he's unique, but even many of the men look generic anime and samey. Like the butler.

Awakening was full on anime, I know, but the characters were unique and memorable and funny and colorful. The characters in this one seem far less amusing, and more generic. The relationship aspect was cute in Awakening, but it seems like this one caters to the otaku demographic that gets reallllly into it. I hate designs like this which many of the females look like. This little girl is not a warrior:

Horde battles for me took longer than Super Training. Super Training was nice and It didn't take that long but, I still would like the ability just to set the stats in game using a damn slider or something. I am just being picky to be honest.
Horde battles take a lot less time once you get Pokerus and a Pokemon with sweet scent. You can max an EV in less than five minutes that way.
