Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

I loved Awakening, but this is pretty bizarre.

Honestly Awakening is pretty bizarre in the grand scheme of things in the FE series. Especially with the Pairing-up mechanics, DLC that lets you recruit past Fire Emblem characters. Sometimes I forget Awakening is an FE game, sometimes it feels like it's own IP at times.

FEif is shaping up to shake the formula up some more, but honestly I'm finding the changes to the weapon triangle, removal of weapon usage, and base building to be pretty interesting additions to what Awakening has paved the way for. I don't know how I feel about rubbing my army.

Maybe he is just tired of the 'girly' male main character in japanese games and a more rugged mc is kind of refreshing for these games?

Maybe. It's not like turning him into Kratos-alpha-male-dude-bro is gonna make me want to buy it more. Then again, I bet there are people who get put off by main characters at an aesthetic level, preventing them from playing the game in the first place. I've never understood why.

It doesn't benefit Nintendo, but Nintendo is incredibly risk averse with Fire Emblem when the IP is stronger than ever.

1. No 12 coming over to America.
2. Awakening's announcement in America was basically a mistake by Reggie to a Kotaku interviewer.
3. Severe supply limits on Awakening on launch.
4. The Fire Emblem Amiibo situation.

Nintendo is afraid of stock sitting on the shelves and not selling with Fire Emblem for some weird reason.

Yeah, I don't understand this mentality either. Clearly Awakening's big success should have set off red flags in their brains, but they are still operating under the belief that Westerners don't care about Fire Emblem.

So we just assume they're stupid and don't want to earn more money? Why do they need to create demand when the demand is already there?

No company is immune to making stupid business decisions.

God I am going to get stared at for playing this on the bus.

What are you doing IS?

play the normal FE campaign in the bus instead? oh please

If we're judging a game by the kind of fan art it generates does that mean splatoon is a game for pedophiles?

That's not how it works.

FE has always been anime as fuck but this is on a whole nother level.

well... mainstream anime style changes over the years :^) :^) :^)

Wait a minute. What are people upset about? Fire Emblem has always been about this kind of stuff. Have you seen the fanart it generates?

No, that's from the card game. The DS remake art's done by Masasume Shirow. That's not his style. The card game came out before the DS remakes.

That's... exactly my point. I don't get how you got exactly the opposite of what I meant. It's old card game art, not New Mystery/Shadow Dragon art, so that Caeda is a Wyvern/Dragon Knight, not a Falcon Knight.

I don't like the male main character in If. I don't have too much complaint about the female, it's just that the male is too girly. Chrom was ok. It felt like they were trying to recapture Ike with Chrom.

The main character is a customizable avatar here, and has multiple body types, like in Awakening. We haven't seen the alternate body types yet, but there certainly will be larger one too.

Pokemon are pets. People aren't.

And to be honest, I hate Pokemonamie too. Shit is useless competitively and trying to evolve Eevee into Sylveon is a pain in the ass.

People pet people on the head though in real life. It's a sign of affection usually. I get what you mean by that though but I don't think it's that bad.

And yes I agree with you in Pokemon. At least Super Training helped with EVs (but even that shit became tedious.)

Maybe I'm just getting to old but Nintendo's stuff is starting to weird me out a bit. I guess they need to pander to the only people left who buy their stuff in Japan.

Well, male main is customizable.

As for Ike, you know all the complaints about him being a Gorilla, so I'm not expecting anything like him ever again.

That was during Smash Bros. I think that threw people off because not many were exposed to Radiant Dawn. Plus, I don't remember much outrage or anything, just some comments. Unless you can point me to the outrage. Would be hilarious to read.

Are they adding stuff to add stuff?
What will this feature truly bring to Fire Emblem outside making the gameplay artificially longer?

That anime rubbing minigame. Scust

The petting thing made more sense in Pokemon than it does here.

"Who's a good butler? You are! Yes you are!"

Petting someones head as a sign of affection is a trope in anime, not sure how common that is in real life in Japan (probably not that much) but it's not as a pet kind of thing. I see why people see it that way though but I don't think that was IS intention.

I feel like there's a difference between patting someone on the head and rubbing them on the face.

But I don't know, maybe that's just me.

Most people don't replay games. So, giving more content, especially new content, to do during their single playthrough seems like a pretty logical approach. Now, the rubbing bit seems pretty questionable...

Wasn't really outrage perse, and more like wtf where's the Ike from PoR, and who's this gorilla.

Thing is that RD Ike isn't anywhere near as manly as other characters (san Lords) in the series ... so I was like ... wow Japan really likes their waify thin male leads.

They need to release a remaster of the Telius saga on Wii-U. Both games crammed into 1 package with some slight Wind Waker tweaks. I would buy it so hard.

Odd rubbing mechanic, but the base building stuff is my shit!

Doesn't this game come out soon in Japan? I woulda thought there would be a more comprehensive trailer.

25 days, but they're been releasing a lot of stuff in Famitsu every week.

Fire Emblem on consoles is a death sentence right now. You know the history of Thracia, and the Tellius saga.

You can explain Thracia being really late and RD being a sequel to a game on a previous system .... but Por bombed and the Wii U is not as popular as the GC is.

Is the face rubbing mandatory for main campaign stuff? Because if not people can easily ignore it. I'll try it out for amusement but I'm generally ambivalent towards this feature.

Base building is awesome though and I'm really looking forward to this. Eagerly awaiting the Isabelle base secretary DLC.

Quick and dirty

The models (?) look quite good actually, close to Yusuke's art. It makes me wonder why they wouldn't use these models instead of static images.

Also just can't understand the outrage regarding rubbing, like you only get to rub characters' face...

So.... do the Amiibo characters get to partake in the rubbing activities as well?

Because Ike blushing and sparkling seems hilarious to me.

It doesn't matter that you can ignore it. What matters is that it's creepy and stupid. Seriously, who thought rubbing girls' faces was a good idea. The way they react by shaking their heads and making weird noises, it's like they're hamsters lmao. It was cute when they did it with Nintendogs and later with Pokemon, but this...

IS can't hear you over the sound of the money getting printed.

Honestly, the idea of petting your army is just amusing for me. At least you can pet everyone, dat equality.

Hey, you can hug all male characters as well.

Really? Why? Also you're ignoring the fact that you can do the same to males.

lol Fire Emblem amie! Too bad we can't feed them poffins and stuff.

Yeah its kinda weird. At least you can do it to the men, too lol

I don't really have a strong opinion of the addition of petting. IS do have their priorities straight though it seems. Fire Emblem is becoming more and more a dating simulator slash soft eroge, like those Rance games.
