Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

Might as well cut out the middleman and just make the next game Rance IX with FE characters at the rate they're going.

I don't think that's necessary.

There are already plenty of sex/ploughing simulators available like the Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and the Witcher trilogies and probably a bunch of others that I can't remember at the moment. Western devs have that covered so I don't really see how IS could add to that. It's probably for the best that they focus on the main game and whatever assorted features they want to add like they usually do.

Why are people afraid of breasts

Why are they afraid of wearing armor?

breasts are evil!

Ohhh base building seems awesome. And FE amie looks alright, don't really see what's wrong with it, seems pretty innocent to me. Pretty sure it's completely optional anyway like Pokeamie was so those who don't want those scenes don't need to play them anyway

I'll never understand how fucked up this Otaku culture is...

FFS, Fire Emblem could be so much better than this. Spend that budget on new classes, better character designs, etc.

This direction is horrible, and maybe it will sell better in Japan, but it will suffer in Europe and America. Which are markets with a lot more potential.

Heroes don't necessary need to wear armors /tease

THERE'RE NEW CLASSES AND THE CHARACTER DESIGN IS COOL!

I'm still chuckling at "strategic fondling"

Honestly side stuff like this will rarely impact the main game, so I don't see a problem. If I have to rub faces in order to get higher defense though we're going to have a problem.

IS was like, "oh you guys didn't like S.T.E.A.M?", well now we're just going to make waifu games forever that sell fucking millions.

and you're all going to love it.
I think some people vastly overestimate the success of the average waifu game. Very very few games get to be Love Live or Boat Lolis. It's hardly a blank check to 1 million sales.

My understanding is Awakening, with its romance options, sold better in the U.S. than any Fire Emblem ever.

I think it'll do just fine in the West.

Yeah, it's been two games now. I wouldn't call it slowly at all.

Seems like InySys is convinced it contributed to Awakening's success. I'd like to think the presentation, advertising, and casual mode were more impactful though.

What I really love about all this is that you can fornicate with women to collect half-naked pictures in the Witcher and no one will complain but slap a face touching thing and suddenly its an abomination. It's quite litterally eye-rolling how many people are harping on this game for "pandering to the base" when so many western games can do the exact same thing.

And no, this isn't like actual hentai games, despite the wailing of some extremely immature people scream. This is similar (hell, it's lighter) as other western "sex" mini-game stuff. I don't see how the "sex QTE" from God of War or the Witcher "sex card collection" are somehow any more dignified than this.

It won't suffer in America and Europe, people don't care nearly enough for it or against it.

Fe IV the other major emblem game with major shipping elements had alot of legs, (not as much as three), I think it's really that one caused the recent resurgence.

People complained about sex cards when it first came out, I think it's completely hilarious.

Hey now, I had to work hard to get those cards. All those sidequests didn't magically complete themselves.

If only I could import them to use on Gwent.

Thank you. The double standard is unreal.

The series was almost dead if not because of those so called "Otaku culture".

Yeah and as this thread/Awakening shows plenty of people on this site will defend it.

I'm pretty interested in the new design choices gameplay wise but I fucking despise this new art style.

That's not really the same thing. The Witcher was a new IP when that happened (and it was stupid then too). If Nintendo/IntSys were making a new game and included this stuff I don't think you would see as many complaints as you are now.

Yeah also I'd really love to see where he's getting this idea that people who dislike this stuff in FE wouldn't also find that annoying.

The idea that there's some double standard going on here is a complete fallacy. There's a difference between a game having sexual scenes and characters just being straight up sexualized even in combat roles.

I remember Path of Radiance having a lot of supports that emphasized strong platonic friendships between units. Romance was really sparse, and I kind of preferred it that way. It felt more resonating to me. but i haven't played the game in years so i'm probably spouting bullshit.

Nah, Path of Radiance basically did away with the romantic supports (which had increased a bit each time going from FE6 (where they were Roy only) to FE7 to FE8). There weren't even paired endings in FE9. Radiant Dawn brought back paired endings, but only one pair per character and only for some specific characters (aside from Ike, who had two), but the supports were generic and only a few lines.

A lot of the romance in Awakening felt so forced and fake, imo. Female!Robin/Chrom was particularly bad. But yeah, if every character is marriageable in the game you're making, well.... you gotta hurry up and make those scripts before the game comes out.

Eh, personally, I don't think selection ever meant quality here. The pairs in Radiant Dawn were really bland in spite of each character only having one specific mate. Path of Radiance, with no romantic supports, still didn't escape from leaving some characters with very poor supports overall, like Mia. It also took a very odd route where characters who were related from the start, like Ike and Mist, had default bonuses and couldn't support. That makes sense to a point, but the ending result really wasn't that great, especially since the lack of paired endings, romantic or not, generally meant that the supports could bring no relevant development, aside from characters putting away their prejudices.

I also felt disappointed seeing that the A supports I had gotten didn't even have any influence in the endings there.

Seems like InySys is convinced it contributed to Awakening's success. I'd like to think the presentation, advertising, and casual mode were more impactful though.
Casual mode was in New Mystery though, and yet it still sold worse than Shadow Dragon in Japan. Of course, it still had Shadow Dragon's really bad graphical engine. FE7 and 8 had good graphics for the GBA and still sold significantly less than Awakening.

I don't think it's specifically "waifu" stuff, but character interaction in general. Although face fondling leans towards romantic, the bathhouse scene with other characters from the same gender doesn't. And then there's just talking with people around the castle, or making them take care of stores and such. All of that is adding more to do with the characters aside from battling.

This is the Western equivalent of adding coop to Dead Space. Sure some people might like the change in focus/priorities, but there are other games that already provide that.

And yes, plenty of people complained about that.

If you want to do this, they should make a new series. At least then the illusion of another normal entry remains.

I mean out of those only 2 of them are super breasty fanservicy (all Nohr citizens too. Hmm). The rest of the character designs are fantastic and much better than Awakenings. Very few pirate boots or toilet bowls in sight. The game has made some really interesting changes and additions to the core gameplay as well so some of the doom and gloom posts are kind of premature.

Why are they afraid of wearing armor?

I'll be sure to ask them while I'm rubbing their faces

Lots of humourless sorts around here it seems. I shall use the mode to pet my dogs of war, a pat on the head for each enemy they kill in the name of my glory.

Yessss, this

Yeah, fuck this game. If I wanted to play this kind of bullshit I'd buy a Vita.

Hey look another wrestling fan, you're in the wrong thread buddy.

I'll never understand how fucked up this Otaku culture is...

Guess what, Fire Emblem was basically dead and with Awakening's new direction FE was saved.

Love it when FE fans claim to not like Anime.

The idea that there's some double standard going on here is a complete fallacy. There's a difference between a game having sexual scenes and characters just being straight up sexualized even in combat roles.

Why don't you reply to me yourself then? You're honestly saying that the women in God of War for those scenes aren't there solely to have sex? That it isn't just as, if not more, degrading than this game, where at the very least an attempt is made at forming relationships? I mean, this is the exact same concept as Bioware romance systems (though I do think Bioware handles it a bit better when the writers are decent). A reward for getting the right amount of flags. Only instead of a sex scene, it's rubbing faces. Oh no. How horrible.

And yes, I do have problems with the sexualized ways the characters are set up. I have just as much problems with them in western games as I do here. But whenever western games do it, as long as it doesn't dress its sexiness with misogyny, it usually gets a pass while whenever its anime-styled, it's instantly riviled or hit with a bunch of hate.

I feel like people are overreacting a bit. The couple female designs with ridiculous cleavage are lame, but fanservice is not exclusive to "creepy otaku games" or whatever. I've been playing through and loving Witcher 3, and while it is so much better written than FE will ever be, there is plenty of fanservice-y stuff there, too. It's hardly an outlier.

The amie thing is doubling down on the fact that your relationship with these characters has become such a popular aspect of the games. In a way, it's kind of interesting how off-putting some people find it. The same feature existed in Pokemon, for god's sake, although I recall some people found it weird there, too. Understandably, many feel there's something fundamentally uncomfortable about simulating touch with video game characters, even if it's just another mechanic that serves feeling "connected" to them. Seeing as it's gender neutral, likely optional, and restricted enough to stay outwardly innocent, I don't see it as a problem.

Nothing they've shown as screamed "jumping the shark" to me. Of course not everyone is going to like the romance or relationship elements, or like the character designs, or whatever else, but the comparisons to certain Vita games seems extreme.

I'll go ahead and agree that the character designs have been going in a negative direction overall, though.

Also, this thread went in a completely different direction than I was expecting. What was that about base building again?

I'm growing sicker and sicker of this "this series should have been better off dead" crap. I'm even regretting doing it to games I thought of as unworthy like DmC. As long as the game itself is good in the eyes of the people who play it, it deserves to exist. There are clearly fans of it and I don't feel like insulting a bunch of people for liking what they like. It just reeks of the elitism that drives games to extinction in the first place.

If this was called Hot Sign and not Fire Emblem, people would still complain. Hell they'd be more upset if anything because they'd worry about it replacing the Fire Emblem series or taking away resources from other "more worthwhile" games.

More of these types of pics for other character portraits?

There are some portraits for the newly revealed characters, but unfortunately none in that particular style. There are a couple of them for the Hoshido side's characters and the protagonists as seen here and here. Then there's one more for the Nohr.

Finally, here's some for other assorted characters:

Rinka - The Aloof Flame
Mikoto - Noble Queen of the Hoshido
Orochi - Old Fashioned Spellcaster
Leon
Garon - The Stern King of Nohr
Nix - Secluded Shaman
Charlotte - Savage Girl Power
Benoit - Gentle Protector

You are missing the point. It is hated because it is an addition to the series, not the way it always was.

To turn it around, how would current fans feel if they took all the creepy stuff out of Etrian Odyssey again? They would probably complain just as much.

God of war has always been consistent. If you don't like what it brings you can easily avoid it and never become a fan.

But when the Vita games have that they are creepy otaku pedophile games.

Loving the double standards.

Central focus of... what? The only semblance of relevance they have to the game is the pair-up boosts, which has been a mechanic for a long, long time, it was just based on adjacency rather than pair-up. The other option being 'kid' units, but we've yet to see confirmation on that end.

The supports haven't changed their "role" aside from being more streamlined and more robust, you can form a support crew of only best-friends in Awakening if you wanted to. And in the past, they had the ridiculous limit on "supports" which made the whole thing a spreadsheet nightmare for finding the best combinations.

I think they were just talking about romance being a central focus of the support conversation topics in Awakening? Since everyone had to be able to get married to everyone else. I'm definitely hoping for a lot more platonic/familial/teacher+student/liege+servant relationships though I expect that last one to be limited to generic anime maid/butler hijinx instead of Romance of the Three Kingdoms lite.

Most people don't replay games. So, giving more content, especially new content, to do during their single playthrough seems like a pretty logical approach. Now, the rubbing bit seems pretty questionable...

How about you give more meat instead of more decoration around the meat?
Wouldn't hurt that there's more characters, secret to find, more weapons and most importantly, more battles!

If this was called Hot Sign and not Fire Emblem, people would still complain. Hell they'd be more upset if anything because they'd worry about it replacing the Fire Emblem series or taking away resources from other "more worthwhile" games.

You might have some people grumble about it existing in place of something else like Fire Emblem, but that wouldn't last long. Comparatively you have people complaining about Awakening and will have people complaining about this game for years.

That's not even what I was getting at though, hardly anyone would be complaining about the features that are being discussed. There would just be disinterest, instead of contempt.

That is rubbish, because you are just making a new group of people who think it is good.

How is that different from the old group? Elitism? Please.

Is that an issue? The people that don't like it could move on and the people that do continue to have a game series they like playing.

I think some people vastly overestimate the success of the average waifu game. Very very few games get to be Love Live or Boat Lolis. It's hardly a blank check to 1 million sales.

I'm mostly joking around, but I think this game looks very appealing and they are really going all out on adding tons of stuff, can't wait.

I've been a FE fan since a long time, and all I need more of is more strategic battles, Awakening really lacked that. They can add whatever the hell they want if they give me that.

Top Bottom
