Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

Is the new FE even confirmed to have romance? Aren't most of the characters like, the protagonist's family?

I'm not much a fan of Kozaki's artstyle, and some of the characters seem stupid AF, but most Fire Emblems have their tropey losers. As long as they can hold their own on the field.

I want to say asides from Charlotte/Camilla, I think the design has been top notch.

Marx is the best looking paladin in a long while and Gunther is amazingly bad ass for an older dude. So glad that they got rid of Awakening's wonky armor design.

You're playing as royalty. It's a weird time in the series to start this trend, but it seems Fire Emblem is finally becoming a bit more realistic :>*

Most? No. There are 4 characters from each kingdom, total of 8, that are related to the avatar. (10 if we're talking about Garon and Hoshido Queen whose name escapes me ATM.)

FE tends to have way more than 10 characters.

Central focus of... what? The only semblance of relevance they have to the game is the pair-up boosts, which has been a mechanic for a long, long time, it was just based on adjacency rather than pair-up. The other option being 'kid' units, but we've yet to see confirmation on that end.

The supports haven't changed their "role" aside from being more streamlined and more robust, you can form a support crew of only best-friends in Awakening if you wanted to. And in the past, they had the ridiculous limit on "supports" which made the whole thing a spreadsheet nightmare for finding the best combinations.
Central focus of the whole relationship mechanic. I thought that was clear. You're the one who brought up matchmaking Ken and Barbie.

I'm not sure if robust is the right word. Streamlined, definitely, anyone can get a boost from anyone. I think I preferred the limit, I wouldn't be subjected to so many bad stories that way.

On average I agree that it's a step up from Awakening's.

Do we know yet if this game is connected to Awakening storywise, or are those characters just showing up because of amiibos? I read somewhere else that the waifu amie is a Hoshido version thing too, is that confirmed? So many questions...

Like I totally understand those who have no interest with this face rubbing thing (I'm in line with them though this fanart I stumbled upon was super cute) but the response kind of confuses. I just think this is something silly and easily ignorable (and thankfully gender neutral) but others seem legitimately disturbed or upset by this. People are entitled to this stance, I just think its an unusually strong and unfortunate reaction - a lot of what I'm hearing with respect to the gameplay (the actual meat of this game) sounds better and better each time new info is revealed for this game. Hopefully they can addresses all the gameplay complaints people had from Awakening.

Uh, I would credit Awakening's accessibility with its success, more than its romance options.

There's a correlation/causation problem going on here.

I think the truth of the situation is that EVERY "new" element of Awakening contributed in some way to its success. However trying to parse out which was more important and by how much is likely difficult to impossible. So people can claim element X they didn't like was irrelevant but without any sort of proof or survey or study to back this up their point is just as valid as those who think element X was very important.

But the previous game also had a lot of those accessibility options.

I think it really was the advertisement and word of mouth that helped it the most. The threats of being the last in the series too.

The "waifu" stuff definitely helped on some levels as well.

and even if you want to believe it didn't...it also did not hurt sells

With all the hate for the "face rubbing" I thought it would on the level of Criminal Girls or something. Instead it's super tame, no moaning, weird faces, lower body creep poses. Is it weird? Yeah, but nothing to quit the series over.

My point is the romance didn't hinder its western success in any way.

My bet is that Awakening had a good release timing, and great accessibility that helped sell well.

Like many other games, a bunch of buyers probably didn't finish the game or just didn't pay attention to the supports/romance crap since the game was easy as hell.

However, the single notion that it sold because of romance/otaku stuff is hilarious.

While I'm sure FE will have more than 10 characters, most of the main ones seem to be family members.
In Awakening, you could marry like, anyone (aside from the future kids I think?).
In the new one, seeing as I doubt children are a thing, I'm just wondering if they will stop the relationship at 'friendship' or something instead of going for marriage like in Awakening.

That's very possible. A lot of supports in previous games aren't romance. (I want to say the vast majority, but I don't actually have stats to back that up)

Having a set number of Supports available was kind of dumb, but I do like the idea of having variable maximum support levels. Like, some people just don't get along well enough to hit S, or even A, rank. Marriage is probably out, but I could see those who hit S rank getting hitched in the epilogue.

And after thinking about it some more... I've decided not to get bothered over the face rubbing. It's weird, and frankly creepy, but I can ignore it. Plus, I do love me some base building.

Still in for Nohr.

Will be cool with the streetpass stuff to see what kind of other town layouts people will do. Looks to make the whole vs other players data more fun than the previous FE game also.

Bad part is Ill be stuck out in the middle of nowhere, so wont be able to really make use of that (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Shadow Dragon and Mystery of the Emblem were released pretty late during the DS life cycle, well after it became extremely easy to pirate on. It's not exactly a fair comparison.

can't unsee

fuck

also couldn't you marry cousins together in Awakening?

Yes, cousins are fair game in FE, generally.

I know you could also marry cousins in FE4. (you can also marry Seliph and Julia (half siblings), but that requires a glitch.)

Technically, Roy and Lilina could be cousins, if both Hector and Eliwood married one of the three pegasus sisters from FE7. (this is more fun trivia than anything)

I don't see why that would stop them.

Kamui ➝ Sakura: Best partner
Kamui ← Sakura: Wants to nestle cheeks

Hubba: "A relationship so good that their parents would be surprised!"

And you could do the same stuff in Awakening with parents and kids in that game.

I don't think you're able to do that. You couldn't have Chrom marry Lissa in Awakening.

Edit: lol people just now finding out about Toilet armor? That shit was awful from day 1

I don't see why that would stop them.

That's not exactly romantic.
I'm sure there will be romantic undertones, but I'm just saying I'm not sure if the support thingies will end up in romance like in Awakening, and I haven't seen anything that suggests it will.

Yeah, Awakening's armor design is pretty shit. The toilet helms are bad, but the whole bizarre mushroom look they had going on with the Knights were just the absolute worst.

Well there were a lot of hearts here in the red velvet room with a bed for two:
Hearts are general support indicators, they appeared above units when they gained support points in Awakening. This appeared for all pairs, even nonromonatic ones like, say, Ricken/Henry.

Heck, they even appear when the pair has maxed out their support convos.

You know, I was shitting on Kozaki throughout the whole thread and I apologize for that because I actually don't hate his designs in the least (except Nowi. fuck Nowi). I absolutely agree that he improved since Awakening. No toilet armor so far and no heart shaped belts. Along with Marx and Gunter, I especially love how Mikoto, Cyrus, Suzukaze, and Elfie look. Oh, and this guy:

I've read somewhere on Gaf that the MC is adapoted.
Need confirmation though.

MC is kidnapped into the Nohrian family, but he has 2 blood brothers and sisters from the Hoshido family to go along with his 2 Nohrian brothers and sisters.
