Fire Emblem If to feature Base Building mode and head rubbing mode

This thread has ruined Sully for me, and less importantly fe:if.

Good job people.

Nintendo should start making light novels on the FE series. Its looking like it has a tremendous amount of potential with its good art and great storytelling to be a blockbuster in Japan and all over the world.

Heh.

I hope I can feed them Poke Puffs.

That would be cute.

U wot m8?

I've gotta assume this is a joke, because even as a fan, "great storytelling" is not really something I'd attribute to Fire Emblem's history. Decent and serviceable, sure.

Um... I was cool with this feature in Nintendogs... You know, where you could pet puppies, cats, rats, etc... It got weird when you got to, say, Jynx, but there, you could always say that the feature was meant more for starters and the like. Ignoring human shape Pokemon, it was sort of like keeping a pet.

This, on the other hand... No.

Lol I love controversies like this one. If I get the game I probably won't use that much (if at all) but I always find it funny that people get mad at that kind of stuff.

He's obviously joking, but that said it's not like 'great storytelling' is something you'd attribute to LNs either.

Petting face minigame is considered porn nowadays it seems o_O

It's not like one of those Vita games where you rub the whole body of anime girls and they moan and whatever.

This one just looks cute.

The petting certainly isn't scandalous or outrageous, nor is it controversial by any means, however, the defense of it is pretty hilarious.

It's pretty weird. Even from a romantic standpoint, I'm just not sure where face touching comes into play. I think it's just the idea that these Japanese games need to facilitate touching to insinuate romantic feelings is kind of odd and sometimes leads to nerdier types of people not knowing how to behave themselves around the other sex.

To each their own though. It seems plenty ignorable. But hey, if creepy touching minigames sell, they should put one in F-Zero.

I was willing to let the overtly "modern anime" style of the artwork slide, for the sake of the core mechanics.

But now that heavy petting of 1000 year old dragons has been revealed as not only inexplicably green-lit, but integral, I am giving this game a wiiiiiiiiide berth.

Otaku ruin everything they touch, sadly; literally.

I support this.

I need help understanding why this would lead to people in real life not knowing how to control themselves...

I am trying to imagine someone finishing up a FEif session, and then running up to a male or female and poking them in the face with a pencil.

But touching your lover's face romantically is gross and evil.

I know right. Scandalous!

Weird how? People in romantic relationships touch each other all the time, you know, and that includes faces. It's not just "nerds" that do it, normal people (heh) as well. I imagine those who even has a PhD in Sexual Behavioral Study also touch their SOs every now and then. In-their-face. That's an earth-shattering fact if I ever see one.

This is not creepy at all; like I said it's not like one of those Vita games (which I concede were INDEED creepy!); this one is just cute and cuddly kind of thing (and you can do it with guys too! Equal-opportunity face-cuddling! Score!)

But yeah, to each their own. And this seems like something that can be ignored if you just want the SRPG part of Fire Emblem--from the looks of it it seems like the game seems to still offer that in spades.

The funny thing is, a great number of GAF members *can* be classified as Otakus. Just look at how many of us are obsessed with building monstrous gaming PCs or dueling each other over that one pixel over there that just doesn't look right :P

And if anything, "Otakus" actually saved Fire Emblem from total annihilation, since Nintendo already intended to cut off Fire Emblem forever before the success of Awakening turned that around :P

That trailer seems like Nintendo totally realizes what they're doing, but still did it...the part where it shows the over-the-top American dude is totally taking the piss out of the feature but...it's still a real feature!

I honestly think I wouldn't care if this feature was removed from the US release. Put a stop to this Nintendo!

... I agree a little bit with this.

I will not go out of my way defending the minigame (even if I find it hilarious and will certainly try it) but that would not make me not buy the game(s), they have been making the right moves in the strategy department and I REALLY want to experiment with them.

... I could see them adding a mode like the one on Pokemon Platinum (was that?) where you polish your Medals =P

Because that wouldn't cause any sort of commotion at all.

Leave in an optional feature vs. remove it for the benefit of the conservative western audience.

Not gonna lie, everything about this game looks fucking awesome, except for face touching.

Face touching is weird.

You might like it, but in a Fire Emblem game? Waifus were already weird!

I would buy the game if they took that crap out of it.

Pfft, gamers actually vying for actual content removal.

What kind of world we are living in nowadays :P

Yup, not liking face-rubbing is only something that us conservative puritans find weird.

Come on, I'm very open sexually and not conservative in the very least, but I just don't like creepy pointless stuff like this added into games that otherwise are normal. Like, you buy a game about rubbing witches or what have you, that's fine, you know what you're getting into, but it's not cool to see a once somewhat highbrow (for Nintendo) series devolve into this...and I'm pretty sure the average, non-Otaku Japanese person finds this stuff equally weird.

Wait? How the fuck is it weird romantically? A slow and romantic touch of the face either when kissing or not is something that happens all the time in media and real life.

I fail to see how it's weird at all in your arguement. In a game maybe, but your idea doesn't hold up at all.

Wait, I saw the base building while skimming through the video and saw it mentioned in the OP/title of the thread, but I somehow missed the head rubbing part. That's a little eeeeeeeeehh...

I just think that the desire to touch a virtual thing in order to simulate a romantic relationship falls a little bit on the weird side. Touching your SO? Perfectly normal, even though I'd say literal petting is a bit on the more obscure side. Wanting to touch a virtual character... kind of odd.

But, so is playing a bunch of games where you kill a ton of people, so it's all a matter of perspective.

I think the main thing is that it feels kind of out of place in a game where you're a general leading an army during a war.

I think the face touching in FE is a little weird, but some of the reactions to it are even weirder.
You literally just touch their face and get a stupid reaction. It's not sexual or anything at all, nor are you required to do it. I can't believe how bothered some people are by this lol.

What happened to innocent wooing, the likes of which was seen in earlier Harvest Moon games?

What happened to it, guys?

Still buying this game, twice probably because there are two of them, going to enjoy 95% of the game, will talk about it for hours on GAF many months after release.

But why face touching. I don't wanna touch your face. I just want to marry you and get cool kids or stats or rewards or whatever.

It's definitely meant to be sexual and arousing for the subset of the population that Nintendo is aiming for by including it.

Pokemon-Amie, not sexualized. You're petting and feeding animals more or less.

Fire Emblem, sexualized. Basically rubbing blushing, sweating faces of possible romantic partners.

True. In the last game you could breed a 1000 year old dragon that looked like a child to get her dragon girl kid for your army. Face petting is kind of a strange place to draw the line after that :-P I mean, yeah, mechanically it's a weird thing. As far as adding a couple things to get sales from a crowd I wish they didn't cater to... I think that line was crossed awhile ago.

Pretty much, even though I find it kinda weird.. it doesn't mean I have to mess with it.
The weirder thing is people going "I don't like this shit, so no one else can. Remove it."

Like.. it's an optional feature, get over it.

The gameplay looks so much more improved. I thought this was just going to be the same as Awakening. Consider me back in for the sequel.

Because Love comes in many shapes and forms.

The way I see it, the need to shoehorn breasts in multiple designs tend to make character designers to become less creative in their work. As a woman, I find it tacky and dumb, but I'm just one person and I don't speak for women everywhere. Just accept that people are going to find this problematic one way or another. Some people in this thread are still going to buy this game, myself included. Nothing wrong with criticism or letting out personal feelings in the mean time.

Yeah, I agree with this.

The pokemon-amie thing is whatever to me as long as it doesn't get more weird. lol

It's incredibly weird but I'll get over it, ... the fan art pointing the absurdity of the actual act is the best part of it so far.

Such as this. I mean it's so utterly out there.

It's optional, but it matters anyway.

It's pandering to a certain kind of audience that's not part of what "Fire Emblem" is. Waifus, ok... pairing was cool, it helped the game, and it wasn't that bad. The worst you'd get is a confession scene and it was mostly totally innocent. I defend that part of the game despite finding it odd for FE all the time. This is like adding something on the raunchy side to an otherwise innocent game. It's not about using it, it's about the sanctity and expectations for the franchise being muddled and disrespected by asinine otaku nonsense.

It's not something to boycott the game over, but it's like... what? Why is this here? It's just really out of place.

Because Love comes in many shapes and forms.
Love and sexy time are kinda different.

If the "real" Fire Emblem audience bought the games before Awakening there would be no need for this, Awakening wouldn't be their last resort and things would go this way.
Awakening was successful because of its streamlined, accessible gameplay. Pairing mechanics were cool too. This is pretty different. Crossing a weird line.

I sound more upset about this than I am. I'm just voicing my opinion on the issue. Like I said, not a dealbreaker... but still weird.

The game is not going in a way that many people like, but that is giving IS money. I've seen many games that I like go this way, I voted with my wallet but there was nothing I could do.
