I think what people are saying is the new features not mentioned will basically be add-ons little things nothing that was EARTH shattering or Impressive like we have been asking for.

I mean the PS3 has been out for a year now and we still cant get an ingame Menu!? Nor can we invite our firends to games easily!

Oh whats up Dorfdad?

never thought about it that way. so if other games in the future support remote play, you can pretty much play them on any tv as long as you have a slim psp and the av cables.

imagine going on business trip and being able to play GOWIII on the tv in your hotel room.

That would be lovely...although there's always an issue of latency with game playing.

But, for media purposes at least, it is literally like having your PS3 in your pocket. Of course, with some compromise on AV fidelity, but I've heard the PSP's output looks surprisingly decent on a TV screen.

I'm just slightly surprised I can access my buddy list, PS3 messages, and media anywhere in the world before I can do it in-game locally :)

I assume people don't just want to see the XMB in-game, they also want

-the ability to invite their friends into online games
-the ability to voice chat with their friends in-game
-the ability to message their friends in-game
-the ability to manage downloads in-game
-the ability to listen to music in-game, and turn off the soundtrack
etc.

Or would everyone just settle for the messaging if it meant they got it NOW.

I wants it all Speevy!

Defo.. it's certainly the most important part.

I think XMB access will be opened incrementally, hopefully starting with buddy list access.

I love my PSP but have never really seen a good reason why I should hook it up to my PS3.

It seems a lot of folks here are raving about the wake-on-LAN and remote power-on via PSP update with 2.0.

What's so useful or good about this feature? Is there something I'm missing or is it literally just that you can turn on your PS3 via your PSP? Why would you need to do that?

Watch your PS3 files from anywhere with wi-fi in the world, start a PSstore download from your work and when you get home it's already 100% and many things in the future. When they mention this possibilities I thought it would take some long time, but it's already there!

It will not work. I just can't imagine that you can stream a whole ps3 game over the internet with the current tech. It's not fast and stable enough.

You can also bring up the XMB while reproducing a movie (not disc based), a song, a picture slideshow or surfing the web all the while the Remote Play is in progress.

That's so odd indeed.

Oh you can? Local access isn't totally frozen during Remote Play? That's an encouraging sign. They're almost having two OSes running then...

And can you play LAir, for example, via remote play, and still have a local user playing a movie or music etc.? Cos if you can..then....hmm...in-game xmb, hello? Can the local user access their buddy list?

You know what they need to change about the wallpapers?

If someone wants to use their wallpaper, turn off the standard swirl and just load the wallpaper the person wants automatically.

With FW 2.0? I didn't think this was possible currently.

No no, I meant on the PS3 via the PSP ;)

I found it impressive cos the PS3 system is busy streaming stuff over a WiFi network (while even receiving stuff from a PC over the DLNA) and it's still able to bring up the XMB (on the PSP).

But anyway, if you can do that via the PSP, that means it's technically possible to do that on the PS3 as well.

Unless you guys are talking about something different, if you are watching a movie, listening to music, etc. you can bring up the XMB bar on the PS3. I was streaming music off my PC, opened the XMB, then streamed pictures off of my PC and started a slideshow. I was wowed.

i wish they would have shown the information board

Didn't see the icon in the Network section. Probably is not there. Wouldn't surprise me as some stuff is missing from the "debug" firmwares like the PlayStation Store for example.

But I don't have friends and the PS3 has no games. I don't see the problem here. :P

Missing from the update is the highly anticipated in-game XMB access and the ability to play your custom playlist while enjoying a quick thrash around the tracks of Motorstom or enjoying a kick about in PES 2008. But we're sure those features aren't too far away in a future update.

They are sure people, sure.

TTP said:
I have that as well :P

It's just a two tracks only very old demo. Still sweet tho.

Well you're a bastard.

j/k please let me gameshare it? Pretty please? I'll suck your dick.

WTF?

I guess Sony just wanted to announce a new '2.0' firmware in the xmas selling season . . . never mind that it adds very little, especially if you don't have a PSP.

The DVD upscaling & 720p Blu-Ray update should have been 2.0. This update is trivial.

At least it's still coming...

That's all the updates found in PS3 firmware 2.00, which will be available tomorrow. When speaking with SCEA representatives, we found out that in-game XMB support is still in the works, and that additional video support is "almost definitely" happening. However, there's still no clear indication as to when these features will be incorporated. A regular schedule of updates is planned for the coming year, but specific details were not provided.

So don't download it.

when people buy consoles, they don't really "know" about all the features that the PS3 does. The only know it plays blueray and PS3 games. Everything else is icing on the cake.

So no, it's not to announce a 2.0 for the xmas selling season

You know, nobody is calling it a major update other than the media and you all. I dont remember Sony ever saying "Wait for the major 2.00 update!" Everytime real things are added and not just security updates, they go up .1.

Sadly it's not possible. It's not something you download under a given account. A disc comes with stuff on it to install on the debug unit.

I see nothing to say it isn't a major update. Just because you can't see most of the changes doesn't mean they're not there.

It is implicit in calling it "2.0"

I just think this is poor marketing by Sony . . .

Joe: Hey, I just heard the PS3 got a new 2.0 firmware update . . . what does it do?
Bob: Well, I can have new backgrounds in the menu . . . and I can create playlists.
Joe: That's it?

Hey TTP, did they send you Pain also? I'm quite disappointed with it so far. :/
