Happening to anyone else?

I added the dash in front of the PSN to keep it on top.
Valkyr Junkie said:Well it appears the Wake-on-LAN feature puts the PS3 in a WiiConnect24-like status (as expected). In standby the PS3 is now actually on to a certain degree as you can hear the CPU fan barely idling. It's a very cool feature, but I'm going to disable it since I don't care for additional wear-n-tear on my consoles.

msdstc said:you get WAY too defensive when it comes to defending the ps3. Seriously man it's a lousy addition that's all I'm saying, it's a waste of ram and time IMO. I don't think it'll help sell anything it's not really all that clear. How would the average person know how to turn it off? Hell most people didn't even realize folding at home has an auto-start feature. The little blurbs aren't that clear, and even if they were I don't think people care.

Also, question: Does this mean that PS3 is the first "Always Online" system aka beating Microsoft and Nintendo (WiiConnect24 yet not 24) to the punch?
I mean, how does remote start works? It HAS to be connected to the internet in order to start, right? If so, its connected even when its off?

Valkyr Junkie said:It would appear when it is off it is still connected to the PSN. That's why on your PSP you have to login with the same username/pw. That's the only feasible way to link the 2 devices from the internet. Sony is probably done with Remote Play for a while, but I would really like them to develop a desktop application that performs a similar routing duty between the PSP/PS3. Since my PC at home will most likely be on during the day anyways, it would be nice if the PSP could tell my PC to send out the Wake-on-LAN signal across my LAN (that way the PS3 could be completely off and get powered on).
Everything else about the update is pretty nice although I think having both a Network and Playstation Network tab is dumb/redundant.
it's not really "better" per se, they just changed the interface. it puts you in one of the white rooms from the PS3 ad'sWollan said:What's actually better with the new video chat room? (No PS3 access atm)

I think you're being a little shortsighted about the potential here. First, in it's current state they allow you to turn it off anyway. Second, and more importantly, this thing has got to be nothing more than a standard RSS feed reader, so I'd wager on an upcoming enhancement that will let you have it display any RSS feed you choose.msdstc said:you get WAY too defensive when it comes to defending the ps3. tanod said:About Wake On LAN:
When I turn off the PS3 with the wake-on LAN enabled, the PS3 has the red standby light on like normal but now I can also see that my network light is also on and flashing.
After a minute, the PS3 just turned on. It's giving me a message saying that "If you do not establish a remote play connections within a certtain period of time, the PS3 system will turn off automatically." It prompts for the PS button. I haven't touched it yet. I'm gonna see how long it waits until it turns off again.

About 2 minutes later it turned off. The network light is still on. Oh wait, It just started up again. Same screen as before. It seems to be in a low power mode, periodically checking for a connection. Either that or my PS3 is freaking out with my router and thinks something is trying to connect.
Anyways, my PS3 is never off anyway so I don't have to worry about it so much but just an FYI for everybody.

MoeB said:FOr those who are having their ps3s turning on every few minutes. What brand of router do you own? I used to have this problem with one of my servers on which i had enaled wake on lan. The problem i had was that some pcs on my network would send out discovery packets in order to find other devices connected to the local network. sometimes these packets are mistaken for wakeon lan packets. there's nothing you can do other than wait for another upgrade. or put your ps3 on a different subnet.

However, Buzz is hopeful! It auto-detected the buzzers without having to replug them in. I'll see if it freezes.
Edit:
Posting from my PS3. Buzz still freezes on the intro. So no go, there.
By the way, I have to say, the rounded font looks BEAUTIFUL on the on-screen keyboard, even though I'm typing from a USB keyboard.
