It looks like it could be a really decent action movie, however there are absolutely no similarities between the fraser movies, which is a damn shame cause they had an excellent adventure vibe, and oozing charm with an AMAZING cast.

I agree with this. The Fraser films (the first two) were a lot of fun. Don't have any faith in this film being anywhere near as enjoyable.
 
It looks like any other modern gritty reboot that I have zero interest in. Such a disappointment going by just the trailer. The original film is a really interesting type of film that they could've expanded on (not counting the many sequels) and the Fraser trilogy might have been going of the slope towards the end, but they're fun action packed films regardless of the setting completely changing and I was genuinely looking forward to the announced fourth film that's been canned in favour of this film.

Also Cruise is the most 'play it safe' actor they could've gone with. Really not doing anything for me at all...

Its funny that for the various comments saying it looks like not as much a comedy, fun or a horror movie as the 1990s film... I kinda have to say its all that at once.

Like, having watched The Mummy again earlier this year (it and its first sequel were on TV a fair bit when I was on holiday in the States a couple months ago), its surprisingly competent in just how much it manages to balance. Its a period piece and comedy and adventure film and a horror flick - and generally pretty good at all of those, managing to go from one to the next to good effect. The comedy eases the tension after horror bits, which permits the lighthearted adventure, and the adventure pits the characters in situations that allow for horror again. The film lives and breathes in the atmosphere of its time, but its also... kinda different about it. Rick's an American adventurer sure, but he served with the French Foreign Legion; Evie is British by ancestry and in mannerisms, but was born and raised in Egypt so its her home; Ardeth and the Medjai in general are an order of Muslims who nevertheless have sworn their lives to preventing the return of a very Egyptian threat. Its slight twists on genre conventions make it remain distinctive to this day.

This film by contrast both looks generic, but also stuck in a single tone of grave seriousness. It might pull that off, and its not as if the 1999 film's trailer was wholly indicative of its content (though still somewhat representative). Still, not a strong first impression.

This may turn out terrible, but it's not a remake of the Brendan Fraser movie guys.
 
Cool. The trailer wasn't put together well but I'll see anything with Cruise in it.

So I am guessing the original movie (the Boris Karloff one) which took place in Cairo actually happened in this universe, and this is decades later featuring the princess Imhotep was trying to resurrect.

To be fair, the original is probably the least known of the original films, and, if I might be so bold to go further than than that, probably the weakest of them all. It's a nice-looking film, but it's a chore to get through.
 
I think that looks pretty decent. Anything is a step up from the brendan Fraser films though. I thought they were complete bollox, mainly because of Fraser. I also hated the light hearted tone.

Orci & Kurtzman are doing this? Well, there goes any interest I had in this movie then, and that explains the trailer. Ah well, we’ll always have the Brandon films thankfully.
 
Hopefully there's a cameo of Brandon Frasier or something. Maybe luke a mummy inside a museum or something. Will wait on reviews to decide if i watch this in the movies or not.
 
The 2 Fraser movies were/are great but i am willing to give a chance on this one.
Mummy's sarcophagus looks like it contained WoW's Queen Aszara in her naga form.

Good post.
 
This just feel alike another attempt to reverse engineer an IP to make it work within modern filmmaking trends. This feels like a Mission Impossible clone with a supernatural foe and the two just don't feel like they match.

While the while crashing plan as a extended scene works within the trailer once we go the usual quick cuts of action the whole thing just feels like more of the same.

And the final reveal of the mdoern bandaged Mummy just didn't work for me at all. The leaked production pictures from the set didn't look right and it doesn't look like they are translating to the big screen any better. Besides, why would Universal hope to start a cineverse, and bring in the kids who make these things work, with Cruise AND Russell Crowe both of whom are well into their fifties?!

I could be wrong but I just don't see this working out at all. I suppose we'll see with subsequent trailers etc, etc.

Mission Impossible : The Real World of Mummies

Starring Tom Cruise - as the guy who does all the action sequences
Some chick - as the smart one telling the action guy where he needs to go to do the actiony stuff

villian - oh so powerful but can be defeated by an action sequence that only the action guy can do.


Im sold. i cant wait to see it!
 
The Sommers movies weren't at all what I want out of this property, and Van Helsing was an outright abomination, but at least his stuff had charm. None of this shit is what I think of when I think of the classic Universal monsters. I get that they're going for that summer money and that's the mindset when making these movies, but I want something darker, gothic, scary. People are complaining that this looks "too dark" but they're just taking the Sommers movies into consideration, which were also pretty bad and off the mark, but again I guess they had that charm and fun going for them.

I know better than to expect anything like what I want from this from Universal, especially when the likes of Alex Kurtzman is involved, but this looks like soulless checklist garbage. Also, he's managed to make Tom Cruise look incredibly boring, which I suppose could go down as some kind of impressive feat on its own.
