For Honor Open Beta Feb 9 - Feb 12

I feel crushed. I played the closed beta for over 20 hours. Now one of my friends who installed the game logged in, so I asked for a duel. I won the first two, but then lost the next four matches. One match went 6-0 in his favor, when I played Raider that I used most of my time in closed beta. He had one hour of experience with the game :( Similar thing happened with Skull Girls, I hyped him up to get it. Then he kept wrecking me and I lost interest in the game :D I need to get friends with some mercy.

you'll become better then him, losing makes you better then winning oddly, since it makes you fix all your bad habits unless you're genuinely a bad player lol

It would be nice if the 1v1 had an option after to "find next match" instead of having to quit to world map and go back in. Weird considering they have a rematch current opponent option.

Also I'm playing a lot against that long spear character. Seems to be the most popular pick? It has a lot of wind up to their attacks, but the poison can be annoying.

Based off of what OP just said---he's screwed lol. Sounds like his friend is far more familiar with fighting games and thus adapts quickly to mechanics to murder the plebs.

Ya that *really* sucks especially since navigating the menus takes forever. The whole matchmaking system is pretty cumbersome.

General GAF consensus so far? Thinking of picking up Yakuza 0 today, but if this is awesom I can wait.

Yakuza 0 easily.

Yakuza is a must. For Honor is pretty cool if you're looking for a fresh multiplayer experience. Try it out if you get a chance. Best impression is the one it makes on you.

Oh my god the intro is so, so amazingly STUPID.

An earthquake.... brings together the continents... such that Vikings, Knights, and Samurai are all in close proximity to one another.... and they proceed to fight... over literally nothing... for one thousand years.... and it's because the narrator is actually an in-world character.... who BRINGS WAR.

I can't tell if I love this premise or I'm just straight up amazed that this is what they went with. Definitely.... something else here.

It's MP only so mileage may vary. I'd had my fill after the closed beta and after playing another hour today there really isn't enough for me to buy into it at launch.

Nope my impressions of this game is a third person version of those games. Especially Chivalry with the focus on melee combat.

The game plays and controls completely different from those game. If anything it's closer to Mount and Blade but different enough I would call it unique. Not sure if it's better than those game but this is no clone.

I will have to restart that tutorial a couple of times...I just cant get in my head the use of R to block lol...you have to release L2 and repull it along with left, right or top to block...? if the ennemy wants to hit me on the right,I see it in red for him...?

Fucking Berserkers and their fucking swappy side jump around like a circus clown sneak fuck.
If you're on PC, I recommend adding Deimos so he can teach you how to best it, by way of destroying you with it first of course. Good games, Deimos, need that runback though.

To block you just push R in the direction you need to block, that's it. To *parry* you have to do that and hit heavy slash at the same time. Parry is harder to do, but you get a better advantage off it.

edit: Also if you're playing an assassin class you can only hold a block for a brief time before it automatically goes back to neutral.

It's not MP only. There's a full singleplayer/co-op story campaign.

You automarically block if you are matching the enemies stance while in guard. Red means they are striking so you can use it as an indicator for when to parry or dodge.

I didn't know what to think if it at first, but I've since fallen firmly in the camp of wonderfully stupid.

There probably wasn't any way to make a serious story where Knights, samurai and Vikings fight each other, so you might as well lay on the cheese and dumb

I made one for FATE and people said it was really well thought out. What I meant to say is that if you put some work into it you can make a good story just about anything.

Anyone having problems connecting to UPLAY to get into the beta
I dled the steam version but it requires it and I can't even connect to their services

The gameplay doesn't even look alike, really. Unless you classify all games with swords as clones of each other.

It kinda did at first glance in gameplay videos. And also being multiplayer focused with with melee combat and swords kinda checks both boxes of Chivalry. But maybe my impressions have been way off then.

Ok, this kinda convinced me to pick the game up, probably later on as my backlog is a bit too long and getting longer with a few new games in Feb/march

playing Nioh and then this is really hard to do though....

First time "playing" this and I literally have no input. I can pass the "press any key" splash screen but then I get nothing from mouse, keyboard, or gamepad when I try to pick a team.

Vikings are so shit.

I hate them.

Fuck you

Fucking Berserkers and their fucking swappy side jump around like a circus clown sneak fuck.

Give it a shot. See if you like it. Honestly Yakuza is probably the better game overall but if you're the type that likes addictive fast-paced multiplayer then consider this.

It's waayyyyy deeper than Souls though. Like, it's not even close.

(They're going for very different things so comparing is pretty pointless anyway.)

I respectfully disagree. Souls pvp was pretty deep. Vast array of weapons and move sets to memorise and counter. This is just moving an analogue stick in one of three positions.
