Clearly I’ve only just began.
I never plan to do everything in the open world. I never play open world games this way. That why I dislike horizon. It makes you do too many boring side quests and grind when story waits
That's very strange because I'm tired of ubi-style open world with too much stuff, and I actually really enjoyed Horizon (the first one, haven't played the second one) because this one didn't feel overwhelming, I thought it was much better balanced than many open worlds in its content.
I started the game tonight and I’m only a couple hours in. Some early thoughts
I hate how after a cutscene or a dialogue scene when it switches back to the player, there’s this like 5 second pause where you can’t move and then finally it kicks in and you can move the character. It’s just super annoying.
I find holding circle to parcour awkward. It doesn’t feel right. Should be a trigger button, would feel more natural.
The graphics are wholly unimpressive. There was one part in an early cutscene where Frey takes a bite of an apple, and she basically “kisses” the apple, it looked so bad. Like ps3 level animation quality.
Music is pretty good. Reminds me a little of an elder scrolls game.
Way too much dialogue and tutorials in the early part of the game. Just let me fucking play, my god.
Played some of the PC demo just now. Way better than the ps5 version. 60 fps is actually playable and the graphics don’t look like an overblown saturated mess. I even liked the combat this time around.
I definitely see potential here and will pick it up sometime over the summer.
No. The game looks gorgeous except for pettiness. You know even ps1 games can be gorgeous? Elden ring was the best looking game last year and it was not the best tech.

I'm playing Ray tracing with 120hz mode and I think it looks good. I fail to see what's so bad and offensive about the story and characters. The combat, parkour and open-world is fun to me.
The fate of this game is kind of sealed online so let's see if the WOM will help. And this happens so early after High On Life came out with worst reviews and similar complaints too. Some of those same posters were praising HOL to high heavens

Yeah after 4 hours i have to admit that the writing is a mixed bag, the banter between her and the cuff is almost always cringe in a shitlord bickering with the hamster type of way, surely not worse than your average marvel capeshit movie etc. but the story bits are not that bad, and there are 2 sad scenes in the beginning where they did a very good job, the main actress VA range from very bad to pretty good, the direction was probably all over the place.
When she
goes to bed crying in the first hour
the VA was very VERY good.
After the demo the gameplay is not a surprise but it is much better when you have proper introduction to all the mechanics and a better paced sense of progression.
The biggest flaw for now is the technical aspect, this method of reconstruction is very blurry if you are not still and the framerate is not locked, thank god for the 40hz mode but it is not perfect.
Rtx mode looks blurrier\shimmered than quality.
P.s. childs looks pretty good, far from the abomination of valhalla or bio infinite (or really 95% of games)
Those who have actually played a decent chunk of the game(not the demo) yet, how would you say the combat and difficulty is like? Nothing else, I don't care about the "cringe" dialogue or whatever. If the combat is good enough i'll get this.
Reviewers have said what is wrong with the game, it's the bland story, lifeless open-world and generic RPG elements. Just playing for a few hours won't make all that visible yet.

It doesn't make any sense, flaws are flaws and reviewers should give the same weight to them.
Those are big flaws that should weight on the score, and hardly the only flaws of that title that got completely ignored but for lesser titles are incredibly important, shake my fucking head.
But i learned long ago that majority of reviewers are clowns, so...
No, you still have to learn how to deal with some shortcomings.
I would not call the game clunky, you can't be clunky with a fast, acrobatic combat system like this or the game would be absolute crap, but the camera movement and some of the climbing/precise parkour in small spaces can be a bit of a bitch to deal with.
So I've played about 90 minutes of this on ps5 120hz quality mode...
wtf is people problem?! The game is great so far. The characters are very relatable and energetic. Story is interesting and the begining is a bit of tear jerker but I might be getting old . Sadly I have to go to sleep because I would continue playing!
The music in Freys apartment if you take a second and slow down, it's really good. Overall the music is pretty good. I am palying with pulse 3d btw.
I am absolutely loving the vibe of this game so far and the main character. There is nothing wrong with the writing at all yet. People overreact over nothing. Just like they always do. It's not embarrasing to like this normal writing.
The big bad cringe moment from the twits few months ago.... ?! WHAT?! That was it?! That was the cringe moment?! it absolutely fits the character. In fact, I find the dialogue endearing !
And the game looks gorgeous. The only problem being flat lighting, some very simplistic shadows and terrible FSR. I would seriously prefer just lower res rather than fsr which really breaks up in motion. But it's serviceable.
I mean... This is bad graphics?! No shit games take 7 years to develop if people expect every game to be tlou2 quality of production.
It kinda reminds me of Dark Souls 2 - fantastic art and locations, subpar lighting at times, and excellent in others.
I am absolutely happy and satisfied so far. Some shots.
There will always be a select bunch of loud people who'll cherrypick some odd or poor moments and parade them around like they're trying to convey that's the game in nutshell.
I honestly wasn't too interested in this game. It wasn't really even on my radar, but its kinda intriguing and the worldbuilding doesn't look half bad. Will give it a shot some time. Seems kinda decent.
You seriously going to take the word of reviewers who most of the times barely even complete the games mid way before finishing their reviews? Not saying the game does or doesn't possibly have an oscar winning story, but I'd take whatever they're saying with truckload of salt.
Yeah, the cringe level is almost never on the same level of the infamous 2-3 clips we saw here.
It is more cringe than your average game because the protagonist is an edgy 21 years old teenager from NY, but not by that much, i can single out absolute cringefest lines from any Naughty dog or santa monica game (thor daughter and angrboda using modern lingo was hard to digest) if i search enough and at least 25% of the quips on spidey are cringe inducing, people just have short\selective memory.

Spent an hour trying to beat the dragon, and then nothing different happens at all...
It did make me appreciate the combat more, but the framerate is just so random I might refund it.

We were having an argument? Sorry, I missed that. It was a stupid plot device. That's it. Nobody would leave that bag in that situation.
All I was trying to say is that I know people who are broke or live from pay check to pay check but always find money to buy the newest shoes. That's realistic.
No it was super dumb, like actually braindead.
Taking the bag wouldn't stop her from looking for the cat, it's not like the bag was in another room, it was right in front of her...
And it was clearly important since she was living like a bum while saving that money to escape and build a new life; nobody would leave the bag in that situation while it's in goddamn reach.

Not arguing this point very much and dont particularly care but her apartment is engulfed in flames and the bulk of the fire is in her doorway, do you think youd jump through the fire, with the risk that the fire spreads instantly behind you and your trapped and burned alive?
The clear choice is to save the cat and run.
I mean it doesn't matter anyway were talking about a video game. It wouldn't be very interesting if she grabs the cash and lives happily ever after.
On the other points, what I played of it was decent, not amazing but decent, ill probably finish it.
The writing of course has its moments but I was more pissed off at the acting but I have to say, its pretty decent actually, Frey is annoying in some parts but I kind of get her character, I think there is an arc going on here.
Ill come back to it if I ever finish Valhalla.
P.S it runs decent on PC and looks sharper than PS5 but not by much.

... There was no "jumping" through fire, the bag is literally right next to her on your way out to the cat, it's not hidden in some cupboard or closet or having to look for it in any way shape or form; grabbing the bag and walking out to look for the cat is literally one smooth motion.
Maybe because the physics in BOTW allowed for some interesting things to happen.
Things did have a Zelda paint over them with noticeable landmarks giving the world more interesting own identity than Forspoken's world does.
Story is not that special I agree but it does didn't have sassy characters as the main focus.
I don't think BOTW is a 97 MC game either, more like a 8-8.5.

A lot of reviews said the story could be completed in 10-15 hours so in this in case I assume they at least did that and they gave some examples of the short comings. I don't just believe any reviews but the ones I linked and the ACG one substantiate what's good or bad about the game well enough IMO.
Yeah it needs some patching maybe in a month or so it will look a little more stable, FPS on 4090 goes into high 40s in stress areas which is quite ridiculous, just imagine such a beast of a card cant push these PS3 level textures at 60 consistently.
I think it was brave of Luminous to give this new team a big budget to just try and make something AAA so Im not too harsh on them, they would have learnt spades from this and yes, they are charging full price, but perhaps they should be a little more up front with their experience.
Get some senior devs on it to clean it up a little and help the current team and I think it will be in a good place.
The game has this weird problem with faces, when the camera doesn't zoom in they look deformed, like that famous re2 remake leon but 500% faster video on yt.
I dunno how they managed to take the concept of an isekai revolving around magic specifically and made it so dull.
The character designs are so incredibly unimaginative and boring, and the world itself mostly just looks like the same boring medieval castles and houses we've seen a billion times.
This game should've gone crazier with it, it should've been way more stylized.
Honestly the combat is fun with the movement, but the game is boring. Bland open world and super boring enemies. You’re just fighting zombies and variations of zombie animals.
Dear lord. My GPU is so fucking old. My 1080 is getting like 45fps on average and dips all the way down to the 20's. I can't handle this anymore. For as empty as this game is I just don't understand this performance.

Hmm odd he lists some settings that were on by default for me, like item gathering and the real time spell switcher, I wonder if they changed default settings on console vs pc, or if it's just difficulty level dependent.

OK, I was too curious not to try it out for myself. I've played for 3.5 hours. My opinion? If you've told me that this is the very first game to be ever created entirely by an AI, I'd believe you.
