We should definitely use that.

Do we already have people to do the Official Threads for each conferences?

Anyone can make the threads, and I don't think anyone has claimed one yet.

I just ask that whoever starts a conference thread, please update the OP with a summary.

I claim the Nintendo Conference Thread! (Hoping I will be up to the task.)

I'm free that week, so I can work on it. Summary and all.

Who was the "winner" of last year's E3?

1. Konami

Well, they didn't have many (or any) games that I was interested in. So they lose in the traditional sense. But in terms of "entertainment", they could have succeeded more. Tak Fuji had me in tears, and the creepy dude staring at the back of the other guys head was great as well. All around hilarious show.

2. Sony

Pacing was pretty slow and lol @ Marcus (and the PSP presentation in general). But they had the mot demos/trailers for games that interested me, and I guess that's what really counts at a video game convention. Twisted Metal probably had the best reveal at the show. And Butler's appearance was one of the few times he actually made me laugh
, although I think seeing the journalists spaz out upon his entrance was the main reason for that.

3. Nintendo

They didn't show that many games that truly excited me. Even Skyward Sword looked kinda meh, malfunctions or not. But the show certainly wasn't boring. The pacing was very brisk and the trailers were pretty hype-worthy, even if it was mainly because of the "wow they are actually bringing this back" factor. The 3DS treat at the end was nice for the press, but didn't do anything for me.

4. Microsoft

Aside from Rising, and can't think of a single game that excited or amused me. And unlike Konami, their show wasn't entertaining enough to forgive the lack of interesting games. Some of the material did lead to some nice gifs, but when I was actually watching I just remember being bored out of my mind waiting for some of interest to spring up. But all that came was announcement of free Slims. Again, nice for the press, but didn't do anything for me.

I missed EA's and didn't bother to watch Ubisoft's after the James Cameron snore fest the previous year.

This year, I'm banking on Nintendo being the best. Not sure if it's because I really think that or I just really want Cafe to blow me away, but my money's on them either way! Sony will probably be number 2 again. With Microsoft's rumor listed being so Kinect filled, my expectations are low for them. Maybe that will lead to a pleasant surprise. And Konami's will be the worst, as they'll try too hard to copy the magic of their last show and fail miserably...hope I'm wrong though.

Guess I'll actually watch EA and Ubisoft's too this year, if just for completion's sake.

I want to see a full transcript of the Nintendo conference posted in the OP within an hour of it finishing or else.

Sony definitely has a strong lineup to show off but its going to be the pacing that matters. They could really stand to take a small cue from MS or EA in demoing a ton of games back to back without too many breaks in action. As for Nintendo, it seems like they also have great content but the pacing and style of the show comes off a little dull.

In the past, these threads are usually made like a day before the conference with information about times, expected showings, and streams, then locked immediately until the event actually starts, when the mayhem begins.

Nintendo had PERFECT pacing last year.
There was basically no fluff and no sales talk.
It was punch after punch.

Last year's really dragged for me. What saved it in the end was the fact they really had a lot of interesting stuff to show, but boy could they work on their presentation.
It's just unfortunate way of how Sony pressers go. They will talk about forecasts and # of PSN accounts yada yada yada, then show how PSP is not ignored like a red headed stepchild, talk about Xperia Play some more, then upgrading of PSN services, expansion of home and some other stuff. The real meat is and always will be PS3 and it's reserved for last maybe 20-30 minutes.

I understand that people are interested in non-PS3 stuff from Sony, but just come out swinging with PS3 and talk about other stuff afterwards.

I really hope the new E3 conference location is a sign of them pumping up the energy this time around.

Noted.

Okay?

Sony definitely needs an announcement that no one could have predicted to actually get some buzz going at E3. The real name and price for the NGP is just not going to do it unless if they announce a ludicrous $199 price for the NGP.

199 too low, $249 will, people are still anticipating $349.99 for the Wi-fi less version and $60 games even...

While I personally thought Nintendo had the best show last year, they sometimes tend to go on for a little too long between trailers. Even then, most of their stuff was trailers and not live demos, despite the announcements being very strong. Of all the recent E3 pressers I thought MS had great pacing in 09. Demos and trailers flowed quickly from one to the next.

Nintendo won last years e3 by a landslide. It wasnt even close. Sony and Microsoft never had a chance.

Yeah. 3DS, new Zelda, new DKC, new Kirby... come on. Maybe looking back it wasn't so great, but at the time it was fucking hype.

The announcement of Donkey Kong Country Returns was done perfectly.

11 more days to E3 and no major leaks yet besides the whole Project Cafe thing. I'm pretty surprised especially regarding Microsoft.

I really hope nothing else gets leaked before the conferences.

Hopefully this isn't because there's nothing left to leak. :-/ I mean, Sony showed off Starhawk and we know Uncharted, Twisted Metal, Resistance, NGP...

Microsof maybe will show 343, but it's also possible it's going to be a Kinect-jerk-fest...

Project Cafe seems like a definite bundle of surprises though. They have to show some games for it, and who knows what those will be (80% will feature Mario though).

Man i hope NGP is the same price or lower then 3DS, come on Sony lets do this!.
Kind of sad people are now hoping for it to be this cheap, considering initial expectations were $399. Means Sony can't win when they announce the price. I feel $299 would be a hell of a good price, but think people will flip out and scream robbery if it's that high. And that's just my HOPE for a price. I totally expect $349 for the low-end.

Sadly I think the location is more of a sign of the post conference event.

I just want it to be affordable, i want PSP to succeed in the west, and i cant really see it with a $300 price point, even if i consider that "cheap".

Edit: anyways i think people are going to be surprised, i have faith.

Haven't they always done this though? It usually isn't as big a deal because the show floor opens at the same time.

Fanboy reactions to E3 are meaningless.

It's true that "winning" E3 means practically nothing, but a lot of what we discuss here means practically nothing when you look at the big picture. We do it because it's fun (or because we're deluded).

They rented out a sports arena this time. Place can hold like 15,000 people. Its only slightly smaller than the arena Activision rented last year for their conference/concert mashup. Obviously not gonna do 15,000 people but they are planning something alot bigger than a simple conference

If you've got nothing to show you don't want to leak anything, otherwise there is nothing left for the conference itself. First Microsoft has to come up with something that isn't Kinect money-grab, then we can talk leaks.

Would anybody else like something like this added to the OP?

If you have any further suggestions, I'd be glad to make changes if they are easy enough (or if I made mistakes in my time zones). I think I got most of the major GAF time zones, at least ones that should allow others to work out their own time. If I've missed a zone that is important to you, though, let me know and I should be able to add it.

Edit: Did a 24 hour time one too:

Yeay! waking up at 2 at night for the sony conference!

That's probably what i will do, but I'm afraid it will be as badly paced as last years one :/

each conference is 2hrs long right?

The big 3 are typically at least 1 hour long. I remember Sony last year being really long, Nintendo was only a little over 1 hour if I remember correctly.
