Yes it is. The school can bullshit all it wants to try to distance itself, but it's blatantly obvious that they're involved in the organization of the event. All you have to do is show that the school is involved in any way with the white-only prom and baby, you've got a stew suit goin'.

I'm so far into not hearing about this kind of thing, that I can't believe its real. I like that the students are standing up to it though, and people say the youth of today are lazy.

This is disgusting but it's not Macon, Georgia. Macon is in Bibb county, this is in Wilcox county which is about an hour or so southeast of Macon.

Macon, however, is a shit hole for other reasons.

I would have choosen the hip-hop one. Our prom was half slow songs, half bump and grind music so it appeased everyone.

No. I've lived in the South (North Carolina, Georgia, and now Tennessee) for a long time and this is the exception, not the rule.

Pretty sure they do it because of more than just one incident on a bus, but if it makes you feel better...

Private events are by invitation or at discretion, and this is probably the case in a lot of the world. They'll just say it isn't a racial thing, just a privacy thing, because racism is illegal.

I had to finish my last year of high school in Mississippi because of Katrina and they did the same thing in 2006. It was the same school my mom went to when she was younger and it was happening then as well. I didn't attend prom though.

anywhere else in the world the authorities would take one look at the event in question conclude that it quite clearly isn't a private party and arrest the organisers on race discrimination charges

Again, individual actions vs an institutional decision.

There's a big difference between a person throwing a banana onto a soccer pitch and telling a black soccer team that they can't play with the whites.

This is more like some soccer players after practice going to their house and play a pickup game and not allowing others not play.

It’s been that way for as long as anyone can remember; and, it doesn’t stop at prom.

Homecoming is also segregated.

What world do you live in? I can hold a house party tomorrow and say only black people allowed and turn away every white person at the door. It's not illegal to be a bigot or racist you know.

There is no law anywhere saying you have to allow everyone in. It's not a public event, it's not funded by the school, and it's held on privately rented space.

In BC, we have tons of segregated dances, sometimes even promoted by universities ie. Punjabi/Indians only, Chinese/Hong Kong only.

Think of it like you as hosting a private party and you have a guest list. You only let those people who are on the list in and escort those out.

In this case it's all colored people who are left out. And it's ridiculous, because I wonder what music they'll be playing in there. You can't really bump and grind to Toby Keith.

I just don't get it though, do these white people in those areas pretend like the rest of us don't exist or what?

It's vexing that when something like this happens in some shitty little podunk town, the world at large's instant reaction is "lol, that's the South for you." Wrong; this shit wouldn't fly in any town or city I've ever lived in.
