GAF Votes FOTY 2011 Thread Fail Of The Year

Duke Nukem Forever, easy.

Fourteen years of hype, the end game was the biggest pile of shit seen in years. Nothing else comes close.

Brink is the runner-up, but it's a distant runner-up.

Played Skyrim for about 70 hours with only 2 freezes and minor glitches, so i don't get the hate yet... Maybe when my save file gets over 10mb i might understand you guys... Until now i freakin' love everything about it.

My dissapointment of the year has to be Dragon Age 2 as well. Really liked Origins, but hated the demo of 2.

PSN hack.

Disrupted service for millions of people for weeks and had their credit card info stollen, game companies who sold games on Psn took a monetary loss, and the hack was due to really bad security on sonys end.

Dragon Age 2

PSN debacle and subsequent trampling of basic rights, see Mama Robotnik's post for why.

Agree 100% with this. Sony was incompetent, arrogant, and downright scummy with how they handled basically everything to do with the situation.

Honestly people saying dragon age 2? If it wasn't for the ending that seemed rushed and reused areas gaf would be the only place where it's hated. The game at it's core was fine despite horrible marketing.

Spent dozens of hours trying to get accounts back because my email was stolen during the Sony nonsense. Still haven't gotten all the accounts back stuff like twitter is just gone for me now since I couldn't get my account back since I couldn't get the email back...Sick of fanboys DERP NO REAL DAMAGE DONE. Fuck you

1: Duke Nukem Forever

2: Rage

Though Rage was obviously the bigger disappointment. The only thing that game had going for it was that it looked good when you didn't move around too much. Apart from that it was one big errand-run with bad driving mini-games breaking up the action that wasn't too great to begin with. Far, far below what I would expect from an Id game. Doom 4 is their last shot at remaining relevant. Hope they knock it out of the park, but I'm not holding my breath.

Gaming journos failure to give a good appraisal of Minecraft. Most disgusting occurrence in videogame criticism since Heavy Rain's release.

PSN Hack.

I got a new credit card because of it though all my other personal details are up for someone else to see anyway. The wait to play anything online was atrocious too.

I wish i still had my 360 to this day. :'(

Every element of the game is flawed at its most fundamental level. It's an amazing failure from a company widely reputed as the best RPG developer.

Skyrim PS3 for the lack of one humble person from Bethesda to simply admit that the game was not ready and is not affecting only some users, but most of them.

my personal fail of the year? the mysterious omission of Forza 3's greatest track (and gaming's in general) in Forza 4 - Rally Di Positano Full.

First Dragon Age was a pretty avarage RPG but for me it was worth playing for awesome combat and they even took that out...

Chalk another vote for Dragon Age 2, was not the most horrible game I played this year but by far the most disappointing.

Dragon Age 2

Especially now that the numbers are in for Skyrim I think Bioware and EA really fucked up with destroying their fantasy RPG franchise, which also happened to be a best selling game in the first place.

EDIT: Oh, forgot, honorable mention for me is the VGAs being so obvious as to not even nominate The Witcher 2 for best RPG while nominating Dragon Age 2 and Deus Ex..............

Alot of people going to PSN hack specifically, but i'd say Hacking in general. So many got hit in such a short time that it basically looked like everyone was going to get hit at somepoint Sony, Eidos, Codemasters, CCP, Bethsoft, Epic etc. Hell at one point there where actually hackers, fighting hackers, who were hacking the hackers.

It's been a crazy year for that shit, hopefully it taught these companies some serious lessons in net security. Atleast Sony created a division within the company and hired a homeland security vet to run it. Still wont be perfect but it's something. Obviously they handled it pretty poorly though, as did pretty much all of the other sites, devs, and companies that got hacked.

My Personal 5:
1. PSN Hack - Everything communication related from the Sony side was so poorly handled it was infuriating.
2. 3DS - The over ambitious launch plans and the crash back to reality forced a price drop and then to add insult to injury an expansion circle pad is announced.
3. Star Wars Kinect - "Lightsaber on!" and from that moment I knew Microsoft had somehow managed to ruin what hope I had for the game.
4. Mega Man Legends 3 - the sudden delay of the demo and cancellation (and the twitter responses) are a textbook example on how you should not treat your fanbase.
5. Killzone 3 - I loved Killzone 2 to death but Killzone 3 changed almost everything I liked about the last one. While the game felt faster, the story was consideribly worse and just ends. Multiplayer was also simplified a bit but the PSN hack ruined any chance of me getting into it.

PSN outage was definitely the fail of the year, until Bethesda intentionally released a broken game and the gaming media not only lied about it, but reward it with GOTY medals.

I'm more irked at the lack of Porsche in Forza 4.

thats disappointing, but i'd take track(s) over car(s) any day. honorable mention goes to the missing le mans track, camino viejo extreme reverse, and new york (despite being a poor track - for variety). i just cant believe my favorite track ever is missing in the sequel. especially since the shorter version is in :(

Dragon Age 2.

If you seriously think a few glitches that other people have had are enough to call Skyrim the fail of the year and not the complete fucking joke that was DA2 then I don't know what's wrong with you.
