Last gen GTA was everything to consoles. Had GTA 4 and FF been exclusive to Sony, there would be no 360 at this point.
Fast forward and GTA 5 is a huge exclusive to both consoles and Take 2 will always need the game to be on as many consoles as possible.
Rockstar set themselves up for even more success that they would have by moving to the vaunted top of the fall afterschool slot that has been made popular by Halo this gen.
That slot historically has not had an effect on November blockbusters. BUT October games will feel the heat of GTA V.
What this does is help games like Bioshock: Infinte gain some traction and it allows Last of Us to catch a break, that Alan Wake didn't have with Red Dead Redemption.
But now it poses the question whether we will see the Xbox 720 in 2013.
If you MS you literally had Halo 4 end 2012, Gears in the first half of 2013, E# and Summer of Arcade in the summer and a holiday led by a 360 exclusive of Bungie's Destiny.
While the rest of the gaming world will be eating up franchises like Metal Gear, Tomb raider, Bioshock in the first half of the year and the ridiculously huge GTA V leading the fall.
Now the leaves a holiday that will overrun by the battle of two games.
Battlefield 4 versus Modern Warfare 4.
But who knows what will be decided behind closed doors.
