that's what I was thinking, direct ports of fps games to Rev won't really work

ya, interesting thought... kind of like the way putting first person mode in twin snakes made the game too easy (from what i've heard, haven't played it myself). it sounds like a standard FPs ported to rev would be super easy. wouldn't matter so much in multiplayer, but single player campaigns would have to be tweaked. Maybe not in pc games though. mouse and keyboard is pretty quick.

This brings up a better point, however.

Now that we, the gamers, have so much more power in our hands, how will the games change the way we play them?

Simply adding more enemies, or making them do more damage and us do less to them, doesn't work. Creating new layouts that wouldn't work for other platforms is a start, but I thin it's gonna come down to AI.

Or just having waves of dumb enemies for us to mow down. :)

Well I hope multiplayer is more than straight deathmatch. Some Counter-Strike style gameplay. It would be fun the defuse a bomb with the Revmote controller.

The ability to cut/pull individual wires on a bomb...what wire do you cut first? the red? the blue? the black? I guess as you stand in front of the bomb for a few seconds it could highlight/glow which wire to cut.

It feels good to be a multi system owner :)

Just like this generation cycle, the only problem will be lack of spare time to play all the great games that are sure to be released on all those great next gen systems...

E3 is really going to own this year.

Wow, i'm late ;)

We'll be back in a few months to ask you guys what you want for a pre-order item. Why? Cuz-

SWORD!!!1

Knowing Ubi "anything EA can do we can do better" Soft, if this game is successful (and why wouldn't it be? First Rev game revealed so lots of hype, good graphics, always appealing gameplay PLUS MOTHERFUCKIN' SWORDS, launch title), we'll be seeing yearly updates soon.

Sure, I'd prefer something new each time, but I can't help getting excited at the prospect of this type of game a few titles down the line, when they've had time to refine the controls, learned from mistakes and improved things and come up with new ideas.

I look forward to the day I can empty a clip into a room full of enemies online, only to find I'm out of ammo and turn and leg it, at the same time equipping my last grenade and throwing it back over my head, start pulling over furniture to leave obstacles behind me and pulling up the sword and swinging at the guys I've seen closing on my from the right who are off screen as I aim myself at the exit ahead.

I know someone joked about it earlier, but I seriously wonder if this game (or games like it) are going to let you kill yourself. The controller certainly makes it possible to put the gun to your head and pull the trigger or shove the sword through your own chest, but I don't know if they'll do it.

I can't think of any specific reason for killing yourself, except for a laugh, but developers do put quirky things in just because they can quite often. Though if you actually can harm you're in game body with the revmote, it'll be funny to see first timers online slicing into their own legs as they wave the wand around madly.

I dunno... So far, most signs have pointed to an almost PD style aiming system. You can look around the screen, but once you get to an edge you start to turn, so turning a gun on yourself may not be possible.

But, yes, a wild 13 year old swinging like mad an killing himself would be a hoot.

Use the force. :lol

You put my anticipation into overdrive.

Yeah, you're probably right with this game. But in any game where the weapon is independent to where you're looking...I demand suicide options.

GOTY. Damn you...

I'm impressed with all of you GAFers. Seems that almost everyone understands how the Revolution works. This needs a lot of imagination and love to draw the gameplay picture, and some of you can do it easily, like I'm doing.

Is pretty great, that the Revolution does this. Next Generation gameplay, Xbox360 and PS3 can't compete with this. Who agrees?

From a FPS perspective, the way things are described with Red Steel, Revolution has a very sharp edge over the competition. I still don't understand how Nintendo's online infastructure is going to work. Will Nintendo/UBI set up dedicated servers? Will gamers be able to set up their console as a dedicated server and set a map rotation?

Just the news of ANY Revolution game is great and a game of this type is even better. But like you said the online setup will be important in the long run and Nintendo needs to address full voice communication and ditch friend codes at least for the home console.

I love the fact that the Revolution will offer a completely different experience from the 360/PS3 for the most part. It'll have Nintendo 1st/2nd party games and then lots of exclusive 3rd party stuff that you can't find elsewhere because of the unique control scheme. On top of that, you get the virtual console stuff that will probably be mostly exclusive stuff as well. The rev, despite its power limitations vs. the competition, is pure genius by Nintendo as was the DS. I sincerely hope that they at least support 480P and widescreen in games because limiting it to 480i in this day and age would hurt every hdtv owner. +1 Nintendo, though.

this board is going to go into chaos on may 9th, when we have video of revolution software.
I don't even expect anymore to post on GAF at E3. But I'll be fine with the DC server.

Ubi was probably paid by Nintendo to do this game as an exclusive.

I'm not sure if this will automatically mean all 3rd party games are going to be like this, but the controller forcing developers to rethink their games is a good thing. And if Nintendo really cared enough to sign Ubisoft on board, then we can only guess who else they are talking to as this is Iwata's first console launch and 2nd hardware release as president, I'm interested in seeing how he handles things like this.

I'm getting a bit (a lot) off-topic here, but as sword duels and improved FPSs were amongst the first ideas any of us had when the controller was revealed, I hope some of the others are well into development somewhere. I want my flashlight survival horror, which speaks for itself, but also my "wizard with a wand".

The controller is too perfect and obvious not to be used in a magic game. I want to be making potions with it, chopping the ingredients as the instructions say, scooping out the right amount of dried bat to add to the cauldron, stirring the potion 3 times clockwise for every once anti-clockwise (yeah, I'm totally copying this from Harry Potter) and the more accurately I follow the instructions, the more potent the potion. Some freedom to create new or improved things too of course.

But more than that, I want to use it to cast spells. I guess if there's a microphone you could say spells too, but I'd be happy just doing it with revmote movements. Perhaps you'd have to circle the revmote from the top 360 degrees anticlockwise, then slash vertically down and follow that with a flick in the direction you want to aim to send a fireball hurtling that way. And of course, the fast and/or more accurately you pull this off, the more powerful it is. You could do a classic simple lightning bolt symbol to cast a single lightning bolt in front of you or, again, do the 360 degree circle (this time clockwise), but instead of vertically slashing down, lightning bolt down and watch the skys above fill with clouds and lightning fall down on all sides. Point the revmote at yourself, draw an X, then point to the spot on screen you want to teleport to and draw an X there and off you go.

...someone PLEASE make this game!

it simply isn't going to survive. Look for alternate boards starting NOW

Speaking of which, maybe some of us should use a secret board come E3?

Or put a posting limit in place for each hour.

Maybe if GAF bar new sign-ups and make the boards text only as well as private so only registered users can view them they might hold up for e3.

Also, this game needs the ability to sever limbs with the katana :D

sure, it'll get a lot of junk, but by its nature, 3rd parties will be forced to come out with some unique stuff for the Rev (which would therefore make the games exclusive). The number of 3rd party releases will probably pale in comparison to PS3/360, but Nintendo will make up for the slack and, if the control scheme works well, the Rev will be a very VIABLE alternative and a likely 2nd console for many gamers out there.

Last year the only time I remember it being bad during E3 was when the conferences were taking place and people just swarm to the forum. Samething happened during GDC when Sony and Nintendo had their conferences this year.

Yeah, sparing an enemy's life shouldn't mean you can't dismember them. Brings a whole new meaning to the idea of “disarming” an enemy ;P

With a name like Red Steel I can't imagine the player not been able to do it.

At least there is gona be a basic 4 player versus a la Metroid Prime Hunters, wich isn't bad if the escenarios are designed for it (look at 4 players versus eo Hunters, you do not feel alone or triying to find rivals never).

Of course, Nintendo's online filosophie isn't closing to third parties, like on the Cube and on the DS, so if Third Parties want to do a MMORPG, they can. Think of Phantasy Star Online, years ago, or World of Warcraft now.

So, it's open to the developer. Maybe wi will never play a Metroid Prime or a Mario Kart exceding 4 o 8 players online, but again, that's Nintendo's choice to keep latency as a backward on the gameplay.

I heard a lot of good thinks of Homeland, a GC game with online multiplayer were 30 players could play thogeter, were the master's, doing as a server, was the "Master" of the game and writes the story and development of the game, like a Real Rol Playing Game.

I think, giving freedom to the developer is gona be better that doing a dedicated server like Microsoft or Sony.

Also, I remenber SquareEnix's presidents words about Revolution Online:
(not the same words, just remembering) "I like how Nintendo is conecting friends and putting them to play online. They're not making anione to play online to feel scared or mistreated for unknow gamers.

Also i'm pretty excited about how they're reading the online infraestructure for the Revolution, wich is clear the next steep on the DS Online philosophy."

I can't wait to know more.

Dude, that is what is great about the Rev. I'm sure your idea or something like it will in fact get made! And imagine the crap we haven't thought of! I was just telling a friend how, even though I bought all 3 systems this gen, I don't plan on getting a 360 or a PS3, but I'm really, really psyched for the Rev. I'll be getting it on Day 1. And I think it's cause I've been playing games the same way for 20 years. But the possibilites that Nintendo has opened up just by daring to change the controller, is amazingly exciting.

Aurora said:
Mama Smurf, please work for Nintendo. The ideas you are coming up with are ingenius.

Thanks, but it's not hard to come up with ideas for the controller. I'm sure people all over the net are doing it and developers will be even better (well, you'd hope). No doubt if I asked GAF for ideas for Pikmin 3 with the revmote everyone could come up with stuff.

That's part of the reason I think the revmote is better than the DS's touchscreen. While some things on the DS were obvious, like drawing runes or selecting things quickly in Advance Wars or FPSs, all of which have come to fruition, for the most part my excitement for it was "think what developers will come up with!" A few games, like Kirby or Pac-Man, feature ideas I never thought of and probably can't be done on any other system, but it's not as much as I would have hoped.

As soon as the revmote was shown though I just couldn't stop thinking of ideas! So much more is immediately coming to me (and, given the topics at the time, everyone else too) than for the DS, and I have no doubt the same is true for developers, that I think we'll see FAR better uses of it than the touchscreen.

No. They went to Nintendo with the idea.
the team at ubisoft knew that they wanted to make games for the revolution after the ds released.impressed with how nintendo had created a handheld that offered new twists on familiar gameplay , as well as all-new game concpts that everyone can play ,they knew that the publisher would pursue a similair goal with its next console.after learning that the revolution's remote style controller would be based on motion sensing technology that translates the players movements into the game , the team immediatly began conceptualizing by playing with the remotes laying around there offices, trying to pinpoint what movements were the most fun to do . the engineers on staff spent countless hours waving television remotes around, emulating the motions for digging, throwing , swinging and more.once their antics began to coalesce into the actual game concepts, they brought their ideas to nintnedo's president satoru iwata and the companys cheif creative officer, shigeru miyamoto . "we got tons of ideas of interactions , and these are what we brought to japan when we went to see mr. iwata and mr. miyamoto" said damien moret , the teams marketing game manager.
No moneyhats required.

I just hope we don't get too many sword fighting games from developers early on. We're already getting Red Steel and Zelda (probably), but as it's one of the more obvious ideas and it sounds fun and it's something easy to understand and it's something developers haven't really been able to do before (you can have sword fights, just not to this level), I'm worried it might be too popular.

I can just see it:

Lucasarts - "You know what would be awesome with the revmote? Lightsabers!"

Some FPS developer - "We're all used to making shooters, so how about for a slight change of pace, without going into completely unknown territory, we make a first person sworder?"

etc.
