I know it sounds dumb, but I was seriously sitting here every now and then "mentioning" to myself that Scrow must be crazy [and a loser for obsessing so much over his avatar], as he changes his avatar so often. And then, of course, during my last post I finally looked at the source of your avatar. Dumb points +5

you thought i was crazy and a loser?! I'm shocked and appalled...

excuse me a moment, the onions are making my eyes water....

:_(

Bah, no thanks, I dont need buckets of blood and guts to enjoy a video game. I they want to add abit blood for realistic reasons that be cool but otherwise it would seem to go against the grain that they are going for in this one. The focus seems to be one of honor and saving your opponent which actually seems more interesting, at least to me but I way out of my teen years :)

Heh. Well loser isn't the right word. I thought you were being REALLY REALLY vain all of a sudden. But anyway, back to Red Steel discussion.

I remember when I first got Nintendo's "secret mission file" for Goldeneye 64 way way back in the day and I remember thinking to myself that the game was going to kick ass and I had to purchase it as soon as it came out. We all know how that turned out.

I feel like the multiplayer in this game could turn out to be just as kick ass in terms of new fun to be had.

the yakuza setting lends itself to that over-the-top Kill Bill style blood-and-guts violence though. your point about the focus being on honor and sparing your enemy is fine, but I think it would be a good contrast to have the times that you are really violent and brutal that the visuals match your actions. Therefore when i start shooting and cutting up a storm I want fountains of blood. psychologically that would be a good juxtaposition of playing styles as you may need to switch between them as you progress through the levels.

i see what you did there -_- don't imply that only immature adolescents would want over-the-top violence.

:lol :lol :lol

Seriously, Scrow's avatar isn't new technology (but rather kickass,) and when I seen it first I made the assumption that it was a html trick.

"Learning mostion-based combos will be the key to winning swordfights"

I posted that before, but I'll ask again:

Doesn't that seem like its going to be preset motions to you?
Like a flick here, a flick there - in a specific motion will inact preset sword attacks?

If that's true, that's certainly a way around the "what if your sword hits another sword and your arm keeps moving" - blah blah argument, because, well, all you have to do is flick your wrist - no swings. If your sword bounces off something, your hand isn't moving any more anyway, so you just flick it again...

But that's less fun :(

did not think to ask that O_o

I still want to believe the 20th will have something... I hope

I still think the sword will follow your hands movements just like the gun.. there was that pic with the guy holding the sword pointed at himself, so that does seem to be the case.

Here is how I'm hoping it will work:

Yes, you can slash freely with the sword, yes there are combos.

If you slash in the correct way, you get a combo in addition to the other two slashes. So it would be a 1-2 slash combo, followed by something more impressive that you triggered.

They said that the combo won't happen if you stop your motion, which would make me think that you are still in full control of the sword until the combo starts, meaning you could slash once, and then realizing that your enemy is about to attack, move your sword to block instead of slashing again and initiating a combo that would leave you open to attack.

Lastly, I do think we'll know about a few more games on April 20th, seeing as there are new mags with exclusives coming out around then (Nintendo Power, for one)

However, I don't expect the lid to be blown off and for us to know about every third party revolution title before E3

I certainly hope that is the case.
The article is too vague to make out anything specific... but that still doesn't solve the "what happens when your blocked" problem.

If it was all preset motions and your preset sword physically bounces off things, and your arm isn't moving because all you did was trigger the motion with a flick - that is a solution.

However, that isn't really naerly as fun as the potential of total control, is it?
So here is to hoping your right - you can standard slash all you want, and if you do certain "preset movments" you get bonus combos - like, I dunno, a big twirl or some crap. That would be even more enjoyable actually.

(OH, and forcefeed back resistance when your sword is blocked so you feel it in your arm.... :: hopes for that to be Rev secret :: )

yep, that's how i understood the concept.

I would imagine if your sword hits something solid you'll feel it in the controller, or maybe if you lock against someone's sword, there will be a special set of controls where you have to push further forward try to disarm them. (Maybe a preset move for disarming your opponent from a lock up.. that could work)

or maybe your character gets stunned if his sword attack is blocked and when he recovers, it comes back under you control. (i.e. it would be jarring enough that he would be left open for a counter attack from the enemy)

Here's hoping that some swordplay segments are playable at E3 :D

there's a rumor saying that i have a 12 inch penis. it can be neither confirmed or denied.

so what?
It's pretty easy to confirm or deny. Pics plz.

Oh and
STOP CHANGING YOUR AVATAR..etc

If you're just using small relaxed wrist movements to move the sword around on screen, feeling the revmote rumble a bit when you hit a wall or clash swords is all you will need in terms of physical feedback.

you don't want to know what i thought you were going to start talking about then... given what I just posted. _O_

but anyway, yes. i agree, i think it would be sufficient. anyone that has this idea of waving their arms around frantically with the revmote buzzing like a dildo in their hand is off base.

I just read Matt's blog and he is partially right. There may or may not be any NDAs that expire on that day but there will be more info on Red Steel in a week or two. This is according to two people, one who's been pretty reliable so far and the other, i don't know about his reputation.

Here's more proof:

From Game Informer
Also, Game Informer Unlimited goes live on April 20th, where you’ll be able to get even more info about Red Steel, and the complete transcript of our interview with George Harrison! Stay tuned!

Also, prince, a ubisoft employee who's on the IGN boards mentioned that he'd provide us with more info on the week of April 20th.

Awesome logo; simple but very stylish at the same time.

On a different note: let's be serious, who here actually plans on properly playing the game? For me it's just going to turn into a hack and slash simulator - screw the storyline. Heck, I'll set myself my own objectives: "Only attack women and children" "Weapon use: Katana only; enemy body location permitted to attack: sexual organs only."

Edit: Okay okay, this was only meant to be a joke. People starting to think I'm crazy and sick :lol

oh my...

attacking the sexual organs of women and children with a sharp blade? O_o

somehow i doubt ubisoft would implement that sort of interaction in the first place.

Until more information is given, rumors like that are going to keep popping up. In the absensce of facts, people fill in the holes with speculation.

Throw in their preconceived notions and you get stuff like no blood, on rails etc.
