But I think Microsoft proved that above all else, superior hardware specs mean jack if you don't have compelling software, and the continued success of the PS2 (and GBA/DS) proves that you don't need hardware "oomph" to have a good game that people will buy en masse.

Right, 100 million PS2 gamers, buying traditionally-crafted games proves your point...

You're a little late to the "going there" party on that one!

Well it's still relevant and terrible, then!

I can't read this thread page by page because there was a big thunder storm here, and now my line is all static which is giving me like 14.4kbps connection speeds over dialup. It's terrible.

back up there big boy, you're still on dial up?

except that was not his point, his point was the having a powerful hardware while good don't automatically equals great sales.

Lol I was wondering where you were.:lol

Hey, you can't ignore important details!

This is such old news, I was banned from the only broadband provider in my area a while ago, etc etc

It supports the part having to do with relative graphical capability.

People buy the PS2 and its games because there are thousands of games available, not because they feel like it's the last piece of hardware they'll ever have to purchase. It's the latest Playstation, it's affordable, and has all the games people want. I don't think that in 2006, people go in thinking that PS2 graphics are going to blow their mind. It's more of a product you just buy and own, which contributes to its culturally universal appeal.

Neither does a new way to play video games. You need a steady library of games, which Nintendo has neglected over two generations. I'm not saying they'll underdeliver, but the tech specs are a real punch in the gut for someone who wants the best for Nintendo.

Anyway, let's get back to talking about Red Steel.

Then I think some of us need to access your news archives. :D

BACK ON TOPIC...

What else is in this GI issue. I heard something about an interview with George Harrison. Any other Revolution info? Is 16:9 standerd for all games? Where's this 20 games at launch, 5 being Nintendo's talk???

Yeah, of course. I believe the point was that the weakest graphical capability of the main home consoles in that generation clearly did not have a significant impact on the system's success. That point and what you are saying are not at odds.

Anyway, let's get back to talking about Red Steel.
Sounds like a plan.

i strongly suggest you stop bitching about HD and do something about your broadband being that it's about a million times more important.

How fitting ;)

One is relevant, the other not. WINK WINK

They're both equally important for me.

It'd be really cool if a enemy threw a gernade at you, and with the broad side of your sword, scooped up the gernade from the ground and flung it back. Game definately sounds awesome so far.

Which is something I conceded readily, because no one's ever really thought this far outside the box before for a home console.

How is a system's library and it's horsepower in any way related?

Anyway, let's get back to talking about Red Steel.

Look's okay, look's really fun. But I'm bettin' I know which of those two you're focusing on. ;)

I think that is from the harrison interview... he could just mean the "launch window", but still it sounds pretty nice. a bunch will probably get delayed.

man, using the sword as a baseball bat would be awesome!

ok, totally don't wanna get off topic, but you're insane if broadband isn't more important to you than HD. even if they're equal, that's not good enough :)

broadband >>> HD=broadband > HD

People will probably find wierd ways to play with rev games... just imagine a simple game where you pick up stuff and throw it at other stuff... :lol endlessly fun (and i'm not joking)

I imagine people will invent odd little games involving throwing grenades in blue steel... grenade basketball with a garbage can for example... Thats what the freehand controller is all about.. all the sudden, simply controlling things is new again and it's fun just like the first time you moved mario with the analog stick.

I wonder how they are going to make videos of Revolution games, they need to show someone playing to actually show how the game is played having a video of the game only will be pretty fucking boring.

Those are the types of games that will find their way onto the virtual console.

One of the quotes from the article was pretty interesting. It mentioned that the team started thinking up ideas for the game after the controller was announced. Does that mean the game has only been in production for a few months?

I don't know how that's relevant to their importance for me. I like movies and television and such much more than games and internet, so HD (and further, Super HD) will always be more important to me because it effects what I enjoy more.

That's why I support BRD and HDDVD, because I want HD movies now.

But yeah, we're getting off topic.

depends what you mean by announce I'm pretty sure Nintendo show 3rd parties (specially big ones) the controller a lot sooner than when they show it.

If we're done talking about Red Steel, I'd much rather hear about Amir0x's broadband ISP misadventures than his broadband vs HD preference.

We'll call this the official end of our discussion. Publishers will put games on the most popular console, the one for which they will likely sell the most. That's the Playstation. The hardware that is the most similar to the Playstation 3 will get more of its games, thus shaping the library. Companies can only make so many Revolution games, and will likely make so many more traditional, PS3/X360 games. That's all I was saying. Just like the Xbox has games with fancy effects and lighting, like Riddick and Splinter Cell. Shapes the library

On topic, I actually want to play this game. I don't think I'd come back to it every day, but like a great arcade game, I think I could be tempted to revisit it occasionally.

... None that I can think of.

Hopefully the controller inspires more original stuff on the rev from third parties. I think the main reason third party stuff doesn't sell on Nintendo is because people are less interested in the ports than the unique stuff. If third parties give their games this much attention, I imagine they have a good chance of selling

long story short: Paramount e-mailed my ISP, said I downloaded a movie called "THE RECKONING" from BitTorrent (i didn't), and then I got banned. So now I wait until another provider comes up here, or what.

This system better be able to pull off decent physics, as this controller method is just begging for that kind of thing. Imagine swinging the sword, and having it interact with everything it touches- knowing objects off tables, ripping through material, slicing through wood, etc. The mind boggles just considering it.

For my birthday, I got broadband for a couple of months (during E3 specifically, my idea). It's not true broadband, but it's cheaper. ("Economy")

Sorry to hear it, buddy. Did you have wifi? If so, was someone mooching off your connection due to low or non-existent security?

If you're talking about Verizon Wireless' BroadbandAccess network, that's technically not WiFi and costs a lot more than your typical Internet connection.

hello, i was on broadband and then i got banned. So broadband is up here, it's just that the only provider banned me!

If the degree of control/interaction that the Rev controller provides over standard gamepads is significant, that should be clear just from watching a video of gameplay.

not really, my parents just recently got it - and since they use cingular, were able to get it for like 59.99 - not much more than the 42 i pay for cable
