Games you've given up on

Alien: Isolation. I loved the atmosphere and everything around it but in practise it just got stale over time. Constantly having to replay huge sections of the game really started to grate on me as well even though in theory I love the tension of the save system.

Not difficult, but just terrible: Resident Evil Gaiden. I don't believe it even had epic Barry dialogue.

Don't think I've given up on any other game. If anything I stop playing because something else distracts me or takes priority. Just recently I came back to Dark Souls after a 2 year hiatus, and I barely made it into Batman Arkham City before I had to leave it.

We had a games room at the university I went to with a bunch of different consoles and PCs to play whatever games we wanted. Every time I went in there and I couldn't get the 360 was because some guy was playing Project Slypheed on it. I swear he played that game for several months in a row and never got bored.

The game is not that bad, but I don't consider it good either. It was entertaining at best. Bought it because it was a non RPG Square-Enix title for the 360 and I was curious about it; I'm pretty sure someone who likes planes would find it entertaining but definitely it was not for me.

Do you just...not like gaming? I'm asking that honestly, as just about every genre is represented on that list, and most of the games on it are, at the very least, fairly good.
I like a lot of games, but some I just can't be bothered with for a variety of reasons. A bunch of the games I listed I got from bundles so I didn't really buy all of them specifically because I was really all that interested in playing them in the first place. For a couple of dollars they're worth trying out at least. Considering the amount of games I still have in my backlog I often just play games for a short while and if they don't grab my attention in any sort of way I just move on to the next game. It can also just be that I dislike certain things about a game and I just kinda stop playing it.

Here's games that I'm playing, still need to play and what games I've finished. Pretty much like all of them.

Mass Effect series.

I won't finish it off until that DLC is on sale or a collective version is released. Quite possibly, I may never play ME3.

Banjo Nutts and Bolts: I love Banjo more than life. Building is my least favorite thing unless it's not required. In Nuts and Bolts I created so many failed contraptions that fall over, have poor controls. Designing with a game controller is not possible. You need a mouse or touch screen. The idea might work today if they fix the controls and use smart glass. Trying online player vehicles is a shot in the dark. Reviews would be bennificial because I'd gladly rate a low if the handling was off. It this games case, everything felt slippery. Also, Banjo looks like crap. Why did they perfect him on the n64 then redesign his look to an abomination?

The bolded is simply not true. Building controls for that game were fantastic, even just the basics. Stuff like being able to select multiple pieces then move them all simultaneously makes putting together vehicles a breeze. There's at least one game — Robocraft — that modeled its vehicle building after N&B because it was that good.

And :( at the italics

Gave up on mgs1, mgs2, and mgs3. Played about 50% of the first one, and 20% of the other two. Reason being that I just started way too late on these and the controls are so bad and so hard for me to get used to compared to every other game that I just wasn't having any fun with them. I'm still getting MGS 5 though.
God of war 2, just got tired of it and felt like it was getting too repetitive.
Gears of War 3, got bored with it near the end and stopped caring about the story.
Skyrim, I put 30 hours into and got bored. I don't know if this even counts though because 30 hours is a long time and people put way more into it without even playing the main story quests.
Resident Evil 4, can't stand that you can't walk / run and shoot at the same time and the aiming was atrocious.
A bunch of other games. I've probably actually ever finished only around 30 games.

I love you Gamefreak but I just didn't like this game no matter how many times I played it. I'll stick with Drill Dozer, Harmo Knight and that other reasonably popular thing they have

Final Fantasy XII. Fuck the License Board, Gambits, those horribly boring characters (Balthier and maybe Fran excepted), that awfully bland world with its endless wasteland-ish deserts (at least toward the beginning), that forgettable soundtrack, that obvious and tired Star Wars inspiration, the lack of focus stemming from the aimless wandering/open-world exploration... all of it. What a thoroughly bland game.

Only offline FF game I've given up on. I had to. I was bored to tears.

I'm on my second attempt at FF XII and I'm fast approaching the same point I did with DA: Inquisition. Do I power my way through the story because I just want to finish or do I give up on this? I powered through DA: I but FF XII is testing my patience.

Dark Souls is a funny one.
On one hand, i've got over 200 hours on it.
On the other, i've never PERSONALLY completed it.

I just get to the end of Anor Londo, think of the shit that's coming, think of how good the initial part is, and start again.

Metal Gear Rising. I love everything about it, but can't get to grips with the controls, despite having tried over and over.

^ reminds me

mGS snake eater. Outdated controls I'll it for me. Can't beat the bosses because I'm programmed to use left trigger to aim and right trigger to shoot.

Chrono Trigger.

Restarted FOUR times, reached that floating kingdom on my last go. Did not see what was so exciting about it.

I maintain FF9 as my personal favorite.

What system did you play it on? Both the PS2/3 and Wii controls were fine by me.

On topic, I don't really like saying that I've completely given up on a game because I try to beat everything I buy. But I apparently have only played Dead Island for 24 minutes and I have almost zero interest in playing it again. I honestly don't remember why I bought it.

I played it on the Wii, but I did take a 1 year break just before beating
Orochi 1st time
and I couldn't play the game. The text just killed it for me.

Resident Evil Racoon City
On loan from my brother, it was too bad, After a hour I quit and never come back. I really Love the RE franchise.

Bioshock Infinite
Loved the beginning I bear in mind that the Story twist will be amazing. After the introduce of the skyhook and the next minutes...No it isnt my game.

I've tried again, and again to play Xenoblade Chronicles, but the game is just too daunting with like a thousand fetch quests. It's also pretty boring.

Call of Jaurez Gunslinger has some nice things going for it, but I got jammed up on the boss who throws dynamite sticks at you. I just couldn't beat that guy so I deleted it.

Red Dead Redemption is a great game, but I just couldn't force myself to play it. I bought it and traded it in like 3 times and each time it was the same, just didn't hold my interest enough.

Sonic Unleashed: I have finished most mainline Sonic games, even Sonic 06. There was a werehog stage that took about 30 or so mins to get through, then the boss would just knock me off the stage. A few game overs later and I was done. Also HATED the medal collecting to unlock new stages. Probably the furthest I have been in a game when giving up.

Well, this is a bit older, but Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. I felt like there was a pretty compelling game under there, but the loading times were just ridiculous. I couldn't force myself through. I wanted to continue, but it just dared me to keep playing in the face of the constant and frequently lengthy interruptions. I didn't take the dare.

Recettear a boring buying minigame chained to subpar top-down combat. Sorry. Not happening.
The Last Remnant: I booted this up a few months ago but couldn't get into the squad based combat.

mGS snake eater. Outdated controls I'll it for me. Can't beat the bosses because I'm programmed to use left trigger to aim and right trigger to shoot.

Mgs 3 on 3ds has modern controls. Maybe that will do it for you. I remember giving up on the very original Snake Eater because there was no cam rotation.

Freedom Wars.
The game can be fun but eventually I got to a mission that seemed to be designed specifically to highlight its issues and frustrate the player.
A shame, it has a lot of potential.

Red Dead Redemption. John got to Mexico about 2 years ago. He´s still there.

Infamous 2. I just could not finish it, it got too repetitive and I stopped caring.

Now I am trying to complete every game, even if it is infuriating (hello Splinter Cell). But I promised myself not to buy a new game until I finish the one that I have already bought.

Right now for me I'd say it's been Final Fantasy XII and Zelda: Twilight Princess

I've put numerous hours into them and re-started several times without being able to finish

Final Fantasy XII I should probably just wait for an HD remake of at this point.

Zelda: Twilight Princess, the beginning of it is so horrible that I don't know if I'll ever be able to get over that hump.

I gave up on Darksiders as my HDD crashed when I had reached the final dungeon :lol. Ain't doing that all over again. I also gave up on FFXII because fuck Pharros Lighthouse.

I gave up on Final Fantasy IX when I was about thirteen, towards the end of the third disc. Didn't beat it until I turned twenty. Sweetest moment of my gaming career.

Bangai-O HD. I love the game, but there's one stage that I just can't beat and I'm too stubborn to skip over it.

Tales of Xillia 2

I'm not doing that final dungeon.

I stopped 10-15 hours in. I didn't find it very fun, especially compared to the original.

Every "roguelike" I own:
  • Spelunky
  • Binding of Isaac (original and Rebirth)
  • Risk of Rain
  • Rogue Legacy

Every "hard game" I own:
  • Dark Souls
  • Super Meat Boy
  • La-Mulana
  • Volgarr the Viking

And all of my horror games. So yeah, a bunch of games.

Valkyria Chronicles: That mission with the huge tank broke me. I had shelved the game for years due to a mission a few prior to the tank. Finally picked it back up after being inspired by the PC release, and got stuck again. That fucking tank.

Dark Souls
: Blighttown.

Metroid Fusion: Spider Boss.

Any Dark Souls type games and games like Lords of the Fallen. I ain't got time to be dyin' learning retrying. I wanna play finish and move on.

Probably Dragon Quest IV just lose interest after they took of
your wife and your main char then you use the kids for some sort of prophecy stuff

MGS:Peace Walker

Just coming off MGS2HD and MGS3HD, yeah this is not fun

Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories

Just coming off KH1.5HD, weird card system, reused locations, no thanks

Viewtiful Joe

Just got to the point where it was too hard, tried again a few years ago and got stuck well before the last time, read up on it and heard about the end game boss rush, gave up

Metal Arms: Glitch in the System

Got to the final boss, tried once, died, gave up, not really sure why, think I'd just had my fill

Jet Force Gemini

Got to Mizar using a guide for the collectables, gave up because fuck Mizar

- The Witcher 2: horrible combat, but I was willing to tough it out for the rest... played for a few hours (not a lot, maybe 4-5 hours), then for some reason my saves got all erased from Steam after a patch, and I never bothered restarting.

- Xenoblade Chronicles: too boring, horrible combat and quest system, annoying as fuck battle voices. I played for about 30 hours, really gave it a chance, but I can't be arsed to continue.

- La-Mulana: too hard :( I loved it, played for 10 hours according to Steam, but I'd just need to play with a guide and I'm too proud to do that... plus the bosses kick my ass too, I couldn't beat Oannes (or whatever the fish thing was called).

- Bound By Flame: I played on hard (Buffalo IIRC) difficulty and was doing OK, dying every now and then but manageable. Then I got to the last boss and the difficulty spike was ridiculous, and it was just the cheapest bullshit. So I never did finish it but I did get to the end. The story kind of sucked so I don't really care about seeing the ending.

- Hitman Absolution: horrible costume system and broken enemy AI pretty much ruined it. It was just too annoying to play. I got as far as the factory, IIRC.

Dragon Age Inquisition. Spend way too much time doing sidequests thinking it'd actually lead to something useful, but no, it's all pretty much pointless pointless and now I don't even feel like finishing the main quest anymore.

I have given up on so many Game Boy games, it really is quite devastating in fact.
Broken controls and difficult levels of licensed games have made my life a living hell.

Jungle Book.

The Smurfs.

Those games haunt me in my dreams.

Dark Souls (PC) - Goddamn Steamworks patch came out while I was doing achievement runs. My laptop also runs it at 15fps.
