EA are actually leading the way for what's to come.
EAs business management has not been bad in terms of business. Its been bad in terms of where it is headed though. They have actually pioneered in business and making money. They made lootboxes, they made a subscription service, they made online BR games. Business wise they are leading the way, so much so that MS has been doing what EA do this whole gen.
Gamewise they are lackluster but it doesn't matter when you have that revenue.
Not only have they shared executive level people but they have shared executive level business models namely loot boxes galore, and monthly subscription services. I still remember how everyone was going on about how EA access was the pinnacle of good value for $5 a month, look at EA games now. Sound familiar? Now it's $10 to $15 is good value.
Before Gamepass there was EA Access as "the best deal" for $5 a month. We are already in the future of EA Access.
EA Access has been so good
I have only had this service a month and a bit now, but damn has it been a great value. The games included in the EA Access Vault have far exceed my expectations. I paid $30 for a year of service, but I feel I have already earned my money back in the short time I've used it. For those that don't...www.neogaf.com
It's where the industry is headed and most people seem to be OK with it.EA make more money than ever thanks to microtransactions and EA access. They don't make as many games though.
How are MS going to save us? They haven't released anything for a long time and are following in EAs footsteps. They literally released a console without any games because they are getting thier 'live service' money like EA. Their biggest game this year was rumoured to be f2p. It won't be because they will try and milk subs from it but rest assured it will very likely have MTXs like almost every other MS game. Thanks, Fortnite and Warzone.
Sony and MS First Party are going to save us....i hope.
I've been saying EA literally gave up on its past big budget game to chase MTX money and subscription based (EA Access) f2p games for a while.

The lack of first party xbox games came from a lack of resources, from what i understand, apparwntly microsoft didnt give phil the go ahead and money to bolster xbox’s first party until like 2018 or something.I've been saying EA literally gave up on its past big budget games to chase MTX money and subscription based (EA Access) f2p games for a while.

Only if you believe indie games are not games. There will be people like me who want to ship finished games and not services. The begin of ending of videogames.
I’ll back my money on AAA games until I’m dead, fuck stealing my time with grinding/waiting F2P bullshit.
I hang out with my friends at the bar. Video games are something to do on your own.good. i love f2p games because i can play them with my friends. i understand that most users here don't have friends though and like to play $70 6/10 singleplayer games though.

What f2p games do you play?good. i love f2p games because i can play them with my friends. i understand that most users here don't have friends though and like to play $70 6/10 singleplayer games though.
What f2p games do you play?
I don't buy that. It's because their strategy didn't depend on it. It's also why they could just delay halo by a whole year. Their strategy is to build gamepass subs even if that just means trying to get xbox one users to sub with xbox one games or releasing a cheap just about next gen console to get more users. They are catering to their subscription install base because that is their main strategy. The lack of first party xbox games came from a lack of resources, from what i understand, apparwntly microsoft didnt give phil the go ahead and money to bolster xbox’s first party until like 2018 or something.
Yikes. Enjoy your watered down games.anyone that's the great thing about it. when you get bored you go to the next one because they're free. and when you do find one that you really like you can play it for longer. if you play with your friends you have fun even if the game is bad
Apex, Path of exile. Paladins. Rogue company, Dauntless. Conqueror's blade is a great one although i haven't played that one for a while, warframe, heroes of the storm, whatever. even the mostly unkown garbage. when a new f2p game is released we play it for a while and we chat in the meantime.
Thread can be ended right here.I'm sticking to Sony and Nintendo, indie and retro. They still deliver the goods.

Do any of you old timers remember when early home video games aimed "to bring the arcade experience home"? We all thought they were talking about the games' complexity and audiovisual fidelity. Now, after all these years, it seems like they really just wanted to bring the coin slot home, so you could continually feed money into the game.
Like Cyberpunk right?
How you go from defending CDPR to now defending EA is beyond me.
I cant wait for Forza Horizon, Gear of War, Fable, Flight Simulator, Ori and Next Chapter, Doom, Wolfenstein, Perfect Dark to all go Free to Play with Microtransactions. How are MS going to save us? cyberpunk is a $60 85 metacritic game so no. not like cyberpunk. or if you are playing on consoles the game is free because they give you a refund and let you keep your copy.
defending EA? what's to defend? the OP is not an attack.
Those list war completely made up, unannounced, old or early in dev games you would be waiting for a while though in any case. I guess waiting is something that a lot of xbox users simply like doing. FH should be nice though.I cant wait for Forza Horizon, Gear of War, Fable, Flight Simulator, Ori and Next Chapter, Doom, Wolfenstein, Perfect Dark to all go Free to Play with Microtransactions.
They bought several studios in 2018. It's been 3 years since . Not only didn't their recently acquired studios not output anything for Xbox Series release but the usual Turn 10 decided not to even release Forza Motorsport. A tentpole like clockwork biannual game that has released with most their new console since forever until this gen. So I don't believe that for a second. You have enough money to buy countless studios but your current first party can't release a game they always have due to money constraints?
It's because they don't need it. Their strategy is gamepass subs and GaaS games and they are focused on expanding that.
Purely talking physical games I own for retro systems (from NES all the way through PS2/Dreamcast), I honestly have enough of a game collection to last me a lifetime. If the industry at large decides to move towards a F2P/GaaS model, you will get a big ol' "don't care" shrug from me.
That's the natural evolution of the roguelike/lite genre. I guarantee before the generation is out there will be a roguelike F2P game that makes you pay for continues.
We have forty years of gaming history. Did you beat all those games? As i get older, the industry is less and less interested in catering to me. I understand it, im not where the money is. But that being said, i hope most of these games bomb
It 100% is IMO. This is a direct quote from Phil about the xbox Series launch from the article:That's a good point.
It also seems unbelievable that the company would budget for hardware R&D, but not for accompanying software. I originally chalked this up to poor planning and management, but perhaps this is really the result of a major shift in strategy.
"If this is not the year when a family wants to make a decision to buy a new Xbox, that's OK.
Our strategy does not revolve around how many Xboxes I sell this year.
We're focused on delivering services through Xbox Game Pass"
