But I have no faith in Hollywood.
In what way?

Congratulations?
Wait, is this version going in a kind ofdirection where she isRobocopThat's not how she was portrayed in the original film is it?a human augmented by cybernetics?
The production design looks on point either way though.
We're getting this and the Blade Runner 2 sequel next year, I hope we get a cyberpunk renaissance.
The cyberssance.
I'm actually perfectly fine watching sci fi for visuals. I enjoyed (first watches) of Jupiter Rising, Man of Steel and Batman Vs Superman for those reasons alone.
Really hope they do something with Major's eye -- something like a flickering light is enough.
It's hard to empathize with her being an android just by SJ doing straight faces like she did in other movies, there needs some visual enhancements to support it.
Also...that full opening uploaded by IGN looks great. Goddamn that music!!!!
Mmmh... I like what I'm seeing.
Let's hope the plot will be nice.
I even like Scarlett Johansson as The Major, actually.
At this point, after looking several japanese manga adaptations, I'm curious though: could you point me to the japanese actress who best fits the Kusanagi role?
You could do an actual casting call you know.
It's like saying Tupac could only be played by a Hollywood actor. They cast an unknown who is pretty much perfect.

There is a difference between casting a low budget musical biopic and a big budget sci fi anime adaptation.

Are we talking about Straight Outta Compton? Wasn't the Tupac thing a cameo?
They worked much much harder on the main crew, to the point where Ice T's kid played him
There's a Tupac biopic called All Eyez on Me.
It was Ice Cube's kid. BRONSON.
Patlabor is a cool sci-fi thriller but Patlabor 2 is the best non-movie I've ever seen and that's a compliment. It's like Oshii was vehemently refusing the audience anything that they were expecting. You want to see the Patlabors do some cool shit? Tough luck. How about the familiar and beloved characters from the oavs and the first film? They're in the background somewhere... You want action? Fuck you, here's 15 minutes of rain falling on Tokyo but you get a Kenji Kawai soundtrack as a bonus.
One of my favorite films.
Before this footage I could not fathom a faithful recreation but now after seeing I'm convinced, especially with the casting and Scarlett - didn't feel the disconnect I had expected.
So thanks, does feel pretty good.![]()
As someone who has heard of Ghost in the Shell but never actually got into at all I'll say this looks pretty damn cool. No idea how faithful or not it is to the source material but I'm really intrigued
Ign seems to have the full part of the intro sequence.

Personally has me even more excited after seeing the above footage![]()

All this talk made me check out the original 1995 film. Maybe I just didn't get it but I thought it was OK at best. The tank fight looked so good though. I hope to see that here.
