God of War Launches Early 2018 (PS4)

Maybe they're on a journey to Valhalla.

God, they did a lot of cool concepts with the Greek mythos, but the possibilities for Norse mythology are sooo exciting. One day I want Cory and Jaffe to team up (maybe bring back Stig) to make the OG God of War 3 pitch where all the pantheons go to war. That was the Egyptian, Norse (and possibly Shinto) Gods invading Olympus while it beseiged...

I think they would need to break it down like Infinity War :P

This game is a hard pass.

Stop forcing so much story telling I'm playing a game not a movie!

First God of War I'm skipping

well,it's totally understandable why someone who liked the gow series might be disappointed by this game..the only thing in common is kratos,it isn't even in the same genre as the previous games.

So the game can't have both story and gameplay? The guy was complaining about the focusing on story, which was horrible in previous games.

lmao, bye.

So, related to Jǫrmungandr (World Serpent), there's an interesting discussion on imgur:

– Nerdy but, assuming he knows Kratos by reputation, he would only want to help him in order to bring about Ragnarok (death of all Norse gods)
– The World Snake awakening is one of the signs of Ragnarok beginning, so it makes sense. Plus we saw Fenrir as well.

This isn't a hack-n-slash action adventure? And with a focus on story like the first God of War?

h was complaining about the story because it's the focus on story that made the game change genre.
there's no reason why they couldn't have a better story but keeping (and improving) on the same gameplay, instead they changed the genre to making it more of a narrative driven interacting move ,more an uncharted without guns than a gow

the old gow were basically dumbed down spectacle fighters with some light platforming and puzzle elements...this one is nothing like that

hack 'n slash is a pretty generic term since it basically involves every game where you fight with some kind of blade...much like a shooter is a game where you shoot someone but we know there are pretty wide differences in terms of gameplay from gears of war and a COD,or between that and a twin stick shooter.

What else would wolves imply in a trailer for a game about Norse mythology?

Just wolves? I mean they're see with those shaman looking guys with skulls.

I'm not saying Fenrir will not be in this, I think it's a no brainer it will, just that it wasn't shown.

But this has Spectacle , platforming and puzzles??

I am confused this is what they being showing and talking about :/

I mean all of this is in that trailer.

Anything interesting from the panel? Sadly, I don't have time to watch it now.
Unless they are amazing actors, the biggest takeaway for me so far is this game has clearly re-energized an entire studio.

Seeing some people who just wanted more of the same is really sad when you have a team very passionate about this new direction.

That's fantastic - SSM sure have a lot of talent in them, and I hope this game will take it to the limit.

Yea it sucks to see some just wanting more of the same. There are like 6 gow games they can go back and play for that. It is time for something new and I am loving this new direction.

Puzzles confirmed by cory himself.
that's not platform

Heard first time, i thought they come into HAck n slash.

well, yeah videogame genres names and what belongs to one genre or the other it's still discussed to this day, it's also usually confusing to explain specifically in what genre a game belongs,or why a game is in a different genre from the other.

all i can say it's that i see nothing of the old gow in this one, and it's not just that the camera it's in a different position.

not every game where you fight someone with bladed weapons is the same genre...or are you telling me that ryse and devil may cry are in the same genre because in both you kill people with a sword?

I also have a lot of faith in the writing (something that is increasingly my personal biggest sticking point with games) listening to Cory talk about what a Kratos in 2017 and 7 games in should be going through and what they should be exploring about this person. The ideas behind this game sound really strong to me.

I'm saying the kind of gory weighty combo-heavy fast-paced combat from the past games is alive and well in this one

if the objective was just to go to a new direction, couldn't have made a new franchise with the same exact gameplay?

also, there's a difference betweenwanting more of the same and not wanting a complete change of genre that makes the franchise unrecognizable...

when nintendo was tasked to "rejuvenate" the zelda franchise, they didn't make it a different genre, they tried new things while keeping it in the end still a true zelda game.
