Good Times On Neogaf Gaming: The BEST Threads

Does anyone remember a very old thread were a weird guy was posting his plans to bring back Dreamcast? He claimed he had money and was going to buy it from Sega and have new games. Elaborate plans for massive AAA titles, he knew what he wanted to do down to how many discs his GTA clone would be.

I need to read this

The thread for Sony's 2013 E3 conference was legendary.

Also little self promotion but I have a soft spot in my heart for one of my first threads here.

It was relatively peaceful time in GAF, minus some Wii U murmur since it had just released. Then the PS4 reveal event was announced and kazification and positivity were abound for a short while.

And then Sony's marketing team or whoever decided to be a little cheeky and declare ''Oh, Yay, Another Mario Game.'' Step up to Playstation 2/20

It ended up being a total fanboy shitshow. Mods had to lock the thread due to fun stuff such as ''your parents wouldn't care if you were dead'' level of insults. I consider it the beginning of the new fanboy war that reached it's peak with Adam Orth and Xbox May event.

Oh my god, I remember this! The amount of insanity over one random ad.

Today I learned that "honor and shame" post was a work.

God damn it. Now I'm questioning my entire life.

Just like "The Room" was an intentional comedy and Tommy Wisseau is just a master of irony.

Please.

People always fall back on "it was a joke" when they become the joke.

This is wishful thinking because I don't want to believe that wasn't intentional.

Have you ever actually read the post?

Who would say something like that seriously?

You're old enough to accept that Santa isn't real.

The Aliens CM thread the night it released always stuck with me for some reason, first time I really followed the GAF reaction to a game I was interested in (but thankfully didn't pre-order)

There are tons of people that say stuff like that seriously. You act like this isn't the internet.

But, again, as mentioned in my earlier spoiler, I'm actively negating reality for the fun of choosing to believe that historic post was authentic.

One of the E3 gif threads. Don't remember the year but it was full of amazing stuff (like that parody of avengers with Reggie as the Hulk)

"We are what we pretend to be, so we must be careful about what we pretend to be."

He trolled too well so now he'll always be the Japanese culture expert guy. No amount of corroboration by friends will ever change that. He'll be buried beneath a cherry tree with Japanese script on his tombstone.

That thread when Final Fantasy Type 0 was announced to be getting a PS4/Xbone and Vita port and then the Vita got denied like literally 1 minute after. Apparently the PlayStation Blog accidentally added Vita in the title...

And thus, the meltdowns began. But post #1267 was the most memorable one:

This is still the most second hand embarrassment I ever had from reading gaf

I personally loved the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 threads. I was sad when the game released because that meant no more pre-release footage to mock.

Personal favorite were the Persona announcement live stream threads. The salt when people thought P5 wasn't going to be announced and that old lady came on screen.

EDIT: Here it is. 72 hours of trolling and buildup.

This one killed me from that thread:

So let me get this straight

If PersonaQ is coming out June in Japan

This means Persona 5 will HAVE to be pushed back to fall as to not coincide with PersonaQ.

So basically after potential announcement there's still a 8month+ wait time. Not sure if can wait so long...
If Persona 5 actually came out in 2014... Lol

So many jokes and comments in that Wii thread would probably get you banned today.

This has been a good trip down memory lane.

The FIFA glitch thread is still my favorite

I don't think any of us expected the ride Atlus would take us on.

I didn't expect this again for later streams but I'm glad it happened

I mean, recently we had that Mass effect animations thread. That thread gave me joy for an entire work-week.

Remember when the PS4 launched and it had that camera game that people took advantage of? That was a fun thread but I can't recall the thread title.

Just the fact that a lot of members don't know the meaning of ":lol" in the old threads make me feel super duper old. I bet many don't know that gif avatars were ok back then as well.

Maybe you can tell us what DinoGAF was?

It's the one piece of GAF-gone-by I haven't been able to determine. My belief is that is was a theme (light/dark/dino) but nobody will ever explain, confirm, or even acknowledge my questions about it.

It's like some huge secret.

I thought that's the way to refer to the website before *Neo*GAF. I think some forum went down, EviLore went around the clock to revive it and neogaf was born.

Still don't know what ":lol" means even though I know it's a sort of emote. Also yeah I heard of the bygone era of GIF avatars.

The thread where OP had thought he saw a vagina in Geist, so Detective Gaf went in and found the vagina.
It was amazing to witness. And when you thought it was over... IT WASNT FUCKING OVER.

Alo81 even got a tag for their detective work.

Mother of god the amount of twists on that thread.

It was definitely satire, but you're also old enough to accept that people post much, much dumber stuff every hour of every day (just not here). It was successful because it was believable.

Any Neiteio thread. I love how they are a celebration of gaming, instead of a beacon of negativity which runs rampant on the Internet.
He often takes a certain element from a game, like a creature in Bloodborne, and makes a well-thought out thread from it.

Cases in point:

Long may he post.

I was seriously gonna make a Neiteio appreciation thread the other day. He is a model gaffer.

While the livestream didn't necessarily start with GAF, the livestreamer's friend started reacting to the thread and it was pretty hilarious to watch live

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1129241

The dude building the PC refused to read manuals and didn't trust people in chat giving him the right advice multiple times. The friend just got more drunk and angry before rage quitting.

It may not be as funny without the stream in real time, but it was the origin for this gif:

This was the theme for like a day or so.
