It isn't rocket science - people just prefer a color that might blend in with their existing components more than the world's largest clam shell. Don't get me wrong though, I'd already own 2 of those clam shells if I could find them.

Fair enough.I actually have a light pine coloured TV unit so the white is probably going to match up better with that than my current black PS4 does...but like I said I don't really care either way.
Good paint job though.

the white stood out too much for me. went with super gloss to match the trim in the middle. might go matte in a few weeks depending on how i feel.

Edit: gonna do flat on the sides tomorrow. Leave the inside seams gloss tho so the led's reflect on the inside

the fingerprints... oh the fingerprints!... especially on the disc version... will collect dust and fingerprints... fast.
perhaps that is why Sony did not make it black...

seriously, use the wood of the table (pine?) it is on, for the sides! epic!. or use Oak or mahogany maybe... with a fine lacquer finish...

Changing it to a matte finish on the outside of the plates but keeping the gloss inside to reflect the led's

Yeah I will get around to 3D printing one sooner or later...

My thought is to print it with wood fill and Varnish it to sit atop my entertainment center.
