Which version of GTA4 are you buying?

PS3 version for me, all previous versions I had on the PC. But in the age of HDTVs playing this game on a lazy couch with wireless gamepad on a large screen is far more appealing to me.

Of course I don't have a 360 anymore, but if I did the 360 version must be very much superior for me to consider it due to past issues with disc scratching and RRoD. But it's stated not to be the case, the PS3 version is even said to offer better graphics. *** The 360 drive noise always annoyed me, but even more so my girlfriend as once she felt asleep while watching a movie and I put on my headphones to play and the extreme 360 drive startup noise woke her up... So not really an option in such a situation.

When we first bought a 360 we weren't really aware of additional costs for playing online, luckily Kameo and DOA4 offered great off-line mutliplayer. I only got a 1 month free Live Gold membership later on with Gears of War and IMO it wasn't worth the hassle nor costs especially from a long term perspective (multiplayer on PC or PS3 does not include additional costs). Thus I believe the PS3 GTA IV online community will be larger worldwide, especially here in Europe.

The non-free downloadable epsisodes nobody knows anything about yet is IMO still a fully unknown factor. About just as much GTA IV's free Playstation Home integration and features, which is pretty much close to nothing as well.

And will I even complete GTA IV? I haven't completed San Andreas (although part of the reason is that my PC harddrive crashed at one point and I stopped playing the game) nor GTA III! Will I feel the need for additional content or will I eventually play it every once in a while just to create havoc having SWAT teams and helicopters chasing after me or play online and meanwhile try to finish some other games like Resistance 2 or Killzone 2 instead? What about GTA V, it's almost sure to arrive for the PS3, but may not come out for the 360 due to technical limitations (GTA4 pushes the 360 to its max like Gears 2 will, and there are DVD storage and having no default harddrive related limitations), this and other factors like high profile PS2 exclusives (God of War, Jak & Daxter, Getaway, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid, Gran Turismo, Twisted Metal, etc, etc) confirmed for the PS3 exclusively, IMO makes this game more a PS3 hardware seller than a 360 hardware seller for PS2 GTA fans.

*** Source: IGN, PalGN and PSM

"Take-Two also said that both the 360 and PS3 version of the game be visually almost identical, with the PS3 coming out slightly on top in some areas." source

"The PS3 hard drive and CPU should deliver a smoother GTA IV than on Xbox 360, not least because of texture streaming. Less loading, more detail and vibrant colour palette should make PS3 GTA IV stand head and shoulders above the Xbox 360 version." source"

For the short run I think GTA IV will sell far more PS3 consoles than 360s, but will sell more copies overall on the 360 especially due sales in the States, but for the long run I expect the PS3 version to considerably outsell the 360 version, mainly due to Europe and to a lesser extend Japan sales, but also a rapid increase of the PS3 install base in the States.

PC, I don't have any of the other consoles otherwise I would buy it for console AND PC. And for crying out loud R*, the 360 is a damn PC just copy paste it or something!

I'll have to go with the PS3 version, because I purchase all multi-platform games on the PS3, it has free online play, I prefer the controller and it does not make as much noise as the 360.

Yeah, he doesn't lose a chance to put up some console-war drama. Thousands of characters simply to say "PS3 version for me" :lol

whichever version puts the most data down on HDD.

So if the PS3 one loads more data to the HDD, but the 360 version actually has shorter load times, you'll still get the PS3 version?

PS3 Version

Sold my 360 last month, got sick and tired of RROD and I'm not paying extra for P2P multiplayer. Also, I expect Rockstar to ship a complete game, so I'm not considering the DLC stuff. Besides, how great can it be? I'd be cold calling the fuck out of that shit right now if I were Microsoft.

I always like to go in depth and push people towards thinking about previously unconsidered factors, another consideration I forgot about myself in my previous post. My girlfriend liked San Andreas as well, but she got cramps in her hands from the 360 controller especially while playing Dead or Alive 4. The PS3 controller is better suited for her. Personally I can get along with both controllers, but prefer the PS3 one.

Also Rockstar was said to have implemented Sixaxis motion controls in the game in a way it was said to make sense. I would love to know more about this, if it doesn't make sense and adds nothing to the experience they could have left this out.

Sounds unlikely, a harddrive loads much faster than either DVD or Blu-Ray. The quote I posted above seems to indicate the opposite. Using the harddrive advantage doesn't per se have to mean game installation, but can mean harddrive caching a la Uncharted.

yes, because my reason is not for the loading times, but wear and tear.

its not P2P its client/server, same as 99% of ps3 games

Undecided, don't know yet if I'll buy it day one and will probably get which ever version will be cheapest to import.

re the DLC .... is there anything stopping ps3 getting it via a disc? ..i mean if the DLS is 360 exclusive ...then how about a retail version of that same content on blu-ray ... loop hole?

ps3 version on day one, since all but one of my irl friends are getting it on ps3. if the dlc is awesome, i'll get the 360 version later down the line otherwise pc for the mods

Yes an interesting thought, although harddrives don't seem to last forever as well, 2.5 inch drives should last longer than 3.5 inch harddrives and be relatively more sturdy for continuous loading compared to DVD/Blu-Ray drives. Fast spinning DVD drives as used by the 360 are usuallly cheaper versions of PC drives, which aren't really designed for continuos loads like is the case on that platform.

IMO most 360 DVD drives will probably show issues sooner or later, Blu-Ray drive usage for PS3 games shouldn't put much extra load on the drive compared to playing movies (assuming a well structured streaming design and smart distribution of files on the disc), but badly designed games could require a lot of lens movement to seek files which may wear off the motor eventually, a harddrive is much more sturdy for this.

ps3 version April 29 and pc version when ever it comes out. If the dlc is anything major like vice city (which I highly doubt) then I get the 360 version when the dlc comes out.

I'm pretty sure MS don't do loopholes. When you sink $50 million into an exclusivity contract, you're going to want to have lawyers reading the shit out of that motherfucker.

PS3 version, don't have a 360, and even if I did I'm so used to playing GTA on PS controllers (like with DMC4). Granted GTA will be much easier to play on a 360 pad than DMC4, but I just enjoy that "right at home" feel :D

Or like Oblivion did on Xbox 360 ;) If they go for the HDD caching route, there's nothing stopping them on doing it on Xbox 360.

i really dont want to start a debate, but how can people seriously say that the ps3 controller is better then the 360?

i own both systems and while i can play for hours with the 360 controller without problems i get cramps after 30 min with the ps3 controller (no i have normal big hands, nothing special about them)? specially for shooters (lots of shooting in gta4!) the positions of the analog sticks and the triggers are way better on the 360!

I don't experience those problems when playing with the PS controller. *shrug*

I'll be getting it on 360. If all things were equal I'd rather play it on the PS3 because the hardware is quieter but the exclusive content plus the fact that I know more people who will be playing it online on 360 have given that version the edge.

It's still not default, AFAIK it cannot even be made a mandatory requirement. So the multi-platform devs will always have to take into account the XBox 360 core specs as a basis. I think the default harddrive is a main factor why the PS3 version of Oblivion is superior compared to the 360 version (much smoother experience with regard to loadtimes, in addition to higher rendering resolution and longer draw distances).

Basically for multi-platform 360/PS3 games development it's a burden that not all 360s come with harddrives, it means they have to do a lot of optimisation for the lack of a harddrive and when done would require a lot of additional work to get the most out of harddrive usage on a console. IMO this lowers the general outlook for multi-platform PS3 games as well, not only for 360s which are equipped with a harddrive.

PS3 voted for because simply I sold my 360 which I owned for nearly two years due to the fact that I feel if MS had sold me the 360 as a self assembly kit, which included a blunt soldering iron, duct tape to tape my fingers together, japanese assembly instructions and an eye patch I still believe I could have put the thing together better myself.

5 times it went back, never for the same thing and my mate has had to send it back after buying it off me for RROD.

I miss the bleeding thing though...... I may jump back in after a few price drops and the hardware is confirmed as improved, I'm fickle like that.....

I plan to buy my PS3 with it (hopefully in a pack) so PS3 version +1.

But I would buy the 360 version should I have the console (is that phrase correct ? /frenglish off :D ).

Obviously, but it can be done. And if you've got a multiformat game that uses HDD caching on PS3, they still need to support non-HDD loading on 360 for Arcade users, but obviously there's nothing that will stop them to use the caching routines on the HDD-enabled 360s. So, if you talk about dynamic data caching, it's something both machines can do.

PS3, exactly because of the reasons mentioned in the poll. The only reason I would want the 360 version is because of the better controller but I'll manage.

different people like different things.

i mean, most people prefer the 360 for this kind of game so i'm sure we can objectively call it 'better' but that's very different to understanding that it's perfectly fine for some people to prefer it and that there's nothing wrong with them if they do.
