They improved the gfx with the day 1 patch, especially shadows and reflection quality

Bought SW Outlaws Gold at a good discount, it's a gorgeous game with gorgeous lighting, but man is it still full of bugs. It's just short of being one of the best visually if not for the issues.

I don't understand Ubi man, they're just content with being mediocre, decent or just good enough. They just don't want to make an effort to polish things a bit.

Yes, if you compare Promotional material for both black flag are far better, and we all know how shadows turns to be one of best looking titles this gen by the time of it's release ,also Black flag use upgraded anvil engine and from those videos they already shared it's looks better for me
I don't know what improvements they have made since shadows but the game seems to use more stylized visuals and more vibrant color tone, which, mixed with the water, looks more pleasing, perhaps. Shadows had a much bigger budget, and I feel it is more consistent and more detailed from what I've seen so far. Also lets see if this has the same granular destruction as shadows, which allowed you to cut multiple bamboo shoots and vegetation, etc. I feel shadows gets overlooked due to his more subdued and muted tone, which comes across as more boring to many.

It's more stylized, but it clearly has a bit more going for it than Shadows. It's an upgrade for sure.

Thoughts on Star Fox? Looks like a PS3.5 game to me.

It's insane how much effort they put into the visuals and how little effort they put into the cutscenes and storytelling. Just garbage all around. I appreciate Massive trying to do single player games, but you need to get the cutscenes right. This game looks a generation ahead of Death Stranding 2, but two gens behind in cutscenes. This simply should not happen.

In terms of gameplay, i was shocked at how basic it was. Both Avatar and Outlaws feel like ps3 era games. I am pretty down on ps4 feeling Sony games this gen, but i never expected to play ps3 era gameplay this gen.

yep. i think the more vibrant color tone is making it pop more. there were certain times of day/weather/season where Shadows could really pop too but due to the dynamic nature of the weather system, it wasnt as consistently bright and in your face.

The Caribbean gets a lot more sunshine which is probably why they went with a brighter more punchier look. it looks stunning.

Yeah, but even on the visual side, it can easily be on top of everything. I mean with RTXDI every light casts shadows and emits the light on surfaces, even those little buttons, it's insane.
But it also has issues even on the highest settings with RTXDI and RR with reflections, smearing and just a general lack of polish. It's also hungry a with the Vram, something like 21 GB.

Even though I don't care that much for cutscenes or take them too much into consideration for visuals, yeah they are weak and given its a SW game they should have been much better.
But again, this is just Ubi, not caring too much or thinking it's good enough, its their motto.

On the gameplay side, yeah, very basic, but you know, underneath it all, there are some interesting ideas and concepts there. The feeling is there, but it's just like with the rest, everything is "half-assed" not explored to its full potential and also the bugs, Jesus Christ.

I'd be shocked if they have none of the destruction physics in there. Seems like an easy win, as it's literally the same engine with even more upgrades and optimizations, for a game that's a bit narrower in scope and size.

Really like the look of this. Decent asset quality, great lighting and im loving the color grading in this one. Seems like the best looking RGG title, most likely their highest budget title aswell, atleast it looks like it

Still looks like a janky play with woodpuppets and AA budget to me even though the geometric density in some shots looks quite good. It´s ....progress... I guess.

Ad Crimson Desert water. Any thoughts on FluidNinja plugin for UE4/5? I spend maybe an hour with the demo (link in yt description) and its pretty good. Cant compare with CD, don't have it.

Outlaws had my jaw drop multiple time during my playthrough. Maxed out on PC the game is just gorgeous. It's not deep gameplay wise, but tbh sometimes you gotta have that junk food in video game form.

I mean, this is either bait or you suck at looking at things. I'm betting on bait though, lol
I can't understand how you are simultaneously here since 2009, and new enough to not know Slimy and his very special eyes.
He can spot a lonely neil druckmann on a red carpet from miles away, but sometimes he fumbles the most evident takes.

Horizon looks insane, I think in terms in textures and quality of assets its one of the best. Its impossible to find a bad texture or ugly asset in it
There's literally bad textures and ugly assets in the screenshot dude. Look at the ground and also the rocks below the waterline.

You can always find some lower textures resolution here and there in every single game, but in general, 99% of the time, Horizon has an amazing level of detail when it comes to texture quality and I say that as a guy that hates low res textures in my games.

I genuinely disagree, horizon had no shortage of crap assets that I noticed in my playthrough

Twitter is weird. They dont auto translate embedded tweets. You have to click on them and go to twitter.com where they are auto translated.

they've been pushing a lot of non-american tweets recently on my feed too. They are auto translated so i have no idea if they were even posted in a different language. i personally get a lot of spanish tweets from latin america. not that im complaining.

Troy Baker, speaking about Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, said, "It's not just one of my most ambitious projects... it's, without exaggeration, the most ambitious project I've ever been involved in."

I think different people just have different sensibility when it comes to what they consider bad textures.

I consider this shit and unacceptable.

For example I am playing Stalker 2 now and the textures are awesome, some can be a bit low res at times but honestly is really hard to find them in general

Definitely agree with Gonzito. Texture/asset quality and their consistency have always been the most impressive thing in Guerrilla games for me. In fact, Horizon: Zero Dawn had the very highest resolution textures and quality assets of any game I had played before on the system, including linear games. In this regard what they accomplished in a massive open world 9 years ago on last gen is exceptional:

Anisotropic filtering isn't the greatest, but in terms of resolution and quality assets I can guarantee you there's no open world last gen that came even close.

Not going to touch on Forbidden West, which I firly believe with a proper Path Tracing update on PC would be undisputed #1 graphics king.

Yeah man, I am kinda shock to read some people here shitting on Horizon's textures lol. It makes no sense to me

My post is supposed to mean "God i am sorry please forgive me", something you say when you find something very displeasing to the muslim god (if internet is to be trusted).
I don't even speak arab myself but when i saw the king of hubris Troy baker with arab langage next to him, i knew i had to say sorry to allah

It is because you people only consider ps2 tier textures as shit textures, but there are various degrees of shit textures.
As the "Texture Enthusiast" I know you are, is there anything even remotely close to Horizon on PS4? Or as consistent?
Personally, haven't played a single free roam with textures and assets as high res as Horizon games, both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West.

The only exception would be The Witcher 3 Current Gen edition, but that's because of Halk Hogan textures, certainly not the original.

Only kind of lower resolution textures in Horizon games I can recall, exploring every inch of the worlds, is on machines, but underneath high quality normal maps and shaders most of the time.
This is clearly due to the extreme complexity of them, there was obviously no other way to make them work.

Edit:

Oh, and rust. Rust textures looked pretty low res compared to the rest I recall. I would imagine this is due, like for machines, to dusty elements having pretty complex geometry.

Been a few years since I've played Zero Dawn, but recall always being floored by the quality of assets/textures.

Just to refresh everyone's memory, this is what PS4 era games look like. I dont think Star Fox is up there.

I dont know. Maybe its because its a faithful remake of a Nintendo 64 game and the levels just dont feel like they belong in the current gen. Keeping the stage layouts the same was a mistake. The number of ships on screen, and just the size of it all feels off. I noticed this with the TLOU1 remake. It looked dated because of the ps3 era level design despite having virtually the same assets as Part 2. I think they shouldve made this game bigger. Maybe ditch the onrails nature of the levels and allow you to fully explore. Maybe that wouldve forced them to put in more effort into the level design and make it feel like an actual open world instead of whatever this is.

i do like the water textures and lighting, but the rest just feels off.

Every game has shit textures, open world are bigger so they have even more of them, me saying that horizon has shit textures doesnt mean that other games dont have shit textures aswell, i think my post was misunderstood.

But yeah you people probably only consider ps2 mush as shit textures so you are more forgiving than me and other people.
