Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

lol this looks dated as fuck. only the chase sequence holds up. the market scene looks bland in terms of lighting, the forest areas look even worse. and people are comparing this to bond?

I mean I played Lost Legacy on PC less than a year ago and it easily looks better than Bond and it's not particularly close. Gameplay, cinematics, character detail, asset quality, texture quality, LOD, animations, you name it. Bond has more impressive lighting and probably hair, but outside of that, Uncharted beats Bond. Still having an awesome time with Bond, mind you. But purely visually speaking it's just not that impressive.

i mean that level isnt representative of the full game. but if you look at the footage in the DF video, you will see just how dated the lighting looks in u4.

Most people will not see the problem you're referring to at all. The difference is quite small in most scenes.

Lighting is a component of graphics and does not supersede other components.

Regardless of how the lighting looks in 007, it'll never be believable with those terrible animations. Even more than the low res textures, nothing ruins a game's graphics for me more than terrible animations.

I don't view it that drastically, but yeah, it's the lighting that drags it down. It has the polish, animations and whatnot, but that's the difference between its best vs worst, the lighting.

I noticed this also in TLOU2, played it recently on PC, amazing looking. But there are moments, especially the island level at night, where exactly the lighting is what drags it down.

Unchy 4 joined ac unity and arkham knight and formed the bullshit comparison trio.

But tbh, i havent been that impressed by bond, it is way too inconsistent for a non-open world game, some sections really are ps4 tier...

The contemporary lighting system in Bond grants more consistency, as baking can't cover 100% of your game, in every instace. But as for the overall package, in terms of artistry and technically prowess they're galaxies apart.

Always thought the only stuff that legitimately looked next gen compared to even Lost Legacy/Uncharted 4 peaks was the first Unreal Engine 5 reveal. Shame not many games lived up to it, on console.

Some much older stuff from the main game, although with all this recent Uncharted 4 talk I'm about to start another playthrough soon (would like to capture more of Chapter 20 as basically everything in that Chapter looks bordeline pre-rendered):

Same thing applies.. you can find spots, that usually gets posted to diminish the game, they couldn't perfectly refine where old gen lighting can't do the heavy lifting for them, as it happens with automated modern solutions.
But you could also find some abysmal looking stuff in Bond even in terms of lighting, not to mention the atrocious assets shared of Series X Quality mode and PS5 Pro in the other Thread.

You can also find bad looking assets in Uncharted, especially in terms of geometry, (not sure as bad as First Light's worst), but those were compromises necessary to make all the tech and systems ND tried to achieve in place at native 1080p, with the at the time revolutionary and never before seen on console TAA solution, at stable 30fps on a base PS4.

And to be fair, even aside from animations or some of the worst assets, it's not like lighting in First List always look current gen either..

Using YouTube grabs as I don't own the game, but that's apparently not a problem. When I see this market scene:

Screenshot-2026-05-30-082728.png

And remember the market opening in Lost Legacy..

I completely fair to see 9 years of progress and a new generation. Despite contemporary lighting system in place.
But as the wise John said, this has nothing to do with tech.

My point is this really is not down to hardware capabilities or anything like that. It's just a matter of time, budget, and skill. In my mind, Uncharted 4 is a technical masterpiece by one of the most technically minded studios in the world. And while IO Interactive is also very talented and capable with a long history, they haven't really made a game like this before.

Even though, technically, 007 has been in production for much longer than both games. Uncharted 4 was recently confirmed to start effectively from scratch mid development, making it only a little more 2 years in the making. Despite some theories passed off as facts (as usual, and goes for very questionable opinions as well), by some Thread regulars.

Bond is managing only software Rt gi, even on the PS5 Pro, it doesn't even have reflections. If software rt gi is the only really noticeable uplift a linear game can offer on a new-gen hardware with around 8x the GPU capability with a far better streaming and CPU setup, then that game isn't really doing an impressive job technically. The lighting in Bond isn't exactly the symbol of consistency and quality throughout its runtime either. I'm really not seeing what you're seeing with Bond. The leniency you are showing this game is quite surprising when you're much more critical in general. It's like watching a grandma tell the ugly kid you are such a handsome young man ...

The whole desert section and the wrecked ships looked like shit most of the time.

This game needed patch tracing at launch.

I don't know about that. I do have called It PS4 looking at times. I brought up the downgrades and the fact that digital foundry won't hold them accountable.

But the difference in lighting alone is massive. And it's not just bond versus uncharted 4, it's uncharted 4 looking dated as hell compared to modern games. But People people constantly use it to diminish what modern games are doing.

Bond could and should look better on a gpu 8x faster. Hell, we saw the version that did look way better. We just never got it. At least they're using the SSD for some cool training, montages and massive levels that we previously did not see in the hitman series. The physics and destruction during fist fights is also a step above last generation games so at least they're using the CPU for something.

Vick Vick please post some more lost legacy screenshots. I don't think you got your point across with just 25 gifs and 15 screenshots in one post.

In motion, Uncharted looks better as a whole. I was playing Lost Legacy last month. It still holds up crazy well
I think that's the general consensus.

It's rare I get gaming related content on my Instagram, but a viral reel appeared that was comparing the mud physics between Uncharted 4 (which sucks compared to MotoStorm, or RDR2) and First Light and man, the comments towards 007 were fucking brutal.
I know the general public opinion on graphics is questionable, but it was a bloodbath.

DF take on the matter, John:

"It really shows them at the top of their game.
And it looks so good. Like I'm looking at footage of that chase sequence, the famous chase sequence they showed off at E3, right?
That still looks so good that it stands toe-to-toe with anything today. I mean, in some ways the footage of that running on PS5 at 60 FPS looks better than Bond that we were just looking at, right?
Like the level of detail is comparable, but there's just so much happening. The visual fidelity of all those objects, the physics, the speed, the post effects, the animation, it's just absurd."

"It was kind of like the height of the baked out era. And I don't mean that like in a in a drug-related way. I mean it in terms of like, lighting and such, where everything was sort of like hand-crafted and baked to become exactly what they needed when they needed it. Because it isn't a game that has things like dynamic time of day. It doesn't need to be like that. Like it's crafted to deliver a very specific vision from start to finish.
And man, it's um it really, really holds up."

Oliver:

"I really like all these Naughty Dog games and stuff like that. I really like Uncharted 4 as well. I'd probably put the TLoU games above Uncharted 4, come to think of it. But I mean I do like all of them quite a bit, I would have to say. But I definitely concur with John when it comes to like this a certain baked era of eighth gen rendering technology that we saw, especially in like single player games, single player action games, where you had like PBR materials, great lighting, volumetrics, SSR, and TAA, and all those techniques kind of came together to produce a very consistent and good visual look, especially when you look at like materials across a range of lighting conditions and environments and everything looking consistent. And then of course in Uncharted 4 you had the incredible character rendering as well, especially in cutscenes. Just absolutely fantastic. And then all the physics that John mentioned as well, like all the secondary bits of animation and like when Nathan Drake was shooting his AK-47, how the strap would jingle and jangle everywhere, and that was just so cool to me at the time."

"And then of course, I mean the propulsive sequences, like I mean I I think that what IO Interactive is doing with Hitman looks very impressive, but just like what Naughty Dog was doing in 2016 in that Madagascar chase sequence and it's something else. It really is something else."

"And I think that Uncharted 4 perhaps represents the peak, certainly a peak, if not the peak, of like this kind of very curated artist heavy game development on eighth generation consoles where we were still getting I thought reasonable returns for the time that was invested in these games cuz you know the span between Uncharted Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us was like less than a was about a 3-year span there and I tend to think that like we were seeing a deceleration of development time. We were seeing games take longer to develop but the rewards that we're getting for that increased development time were longer games with more sophisticated gameplay, more interesting systems, more like wide linear levels in the case of Uncharted 4. We were seeing much greater graphical fidelity. Like I felt like all the rewards were paying off in a big explosive way that generation and there's really no game that exemplifies that kind of trade-off more than Uncharted 4 where I really felt like that was putting in the work for gamers."

"But yeah, I think Uncharted 4 is still a fantastic looking game and compares very very favorably to a lot of games today and it represents like just an extraordinary level of artistry and just an incredible level of character driven action that really hasn't been arguably hasn't been surpassed since. I mean, there have been some games that have come close.
Obviously Uncharted The Lost Legacy expanded out on kind of the wide linear sections of Uncharted 4 and delivered something quite good as well but without the really explosive um set piece sequences that defined a lot of Uncharted 4's appeal and without as many narrative sequences. I I think there's probably a a good case to be made that Uncharted 4 is really a singular game in terms of what it achieves and in terms of the kinds of things that it was able to do on a you know, 1.8 teraflop PlayStation 4 back in, you know, 2016 and 2013 era hardware it's kind of unparalleled."

These uncharted 4 shots in this thread recently and James Bond comparisons are getting me in the mood to finally give the pc version on steamdeck a shot.

Last picture is from Xbox Series X (adam?), this version is using high textures (I think).

Using low res youtube screengrabs for graphic comparisons is pretty retarded, don't you think? And those places with the worse textures in bond is pretty much from one area outside of main area, you don't see this level of textures in other places. You can find many low res assets in UC4 as well.

I would not be surprised that some of the videos they made about 007, are just sponsored videos. And because of that they have to talk about how "good" the game looks. Even if most people think the opposite.
DF is more concerned about making some extra money, than in making proper graphics analysis.

These uncharted 4 shots in this thread recently and James Bond comparisons are getting me in the mood to finally give the pc version on steamdeck a shot.
Expect impeccable presentation, the very best animations and motion blendeing to this day and some legit pre-rendered looking stuff, especially in the later chapters and the real-time cutscenes.
But also some dated lighting and last gen looking stuff like the one posted above. Expect an AO completely free from any kind of disocclusion artifacts, so, in fact, better than many current gen games still using SSAO.
Expect PCSS shadows, and volumetric shadows on water.. and then pixelated shadows just like these:

33236263161_bb17b52eb6_o.png

You won't see them in cutscenes obviously (the above is gameplay model), but in this game everything is optimized based on the level demands. Character models, animations, vegetation and hand-painted textures are the norm, but shadows rendering and geometric detail changes based on the load.
Expect some insanely fun-to-play-with bounce lighting in interiors.

Steamdeck should be fine, game is fairly well optimized, aside from shader compilation. Just don't ever play this game with keyboard and mouse.

At last, don't play it thinking "This is the Remaster, PC version so it looks obviously better" as there's actually hundreds little downgrades in the PS5 and PC release. This goes from worse AO at times, drastically reduced flashlight bounce, to missing shadows, missing reflections, missing shaders and more.
For a very slight improvement on draw distance (but the game had no noticeable pop-in originally, so kind of pointless), and obviously resolution. I can't recall a single other improvement.

Using low res youtube screengrabs for graphic comparisons is pretty retarded, don't you think?
So you're retarded for liking a post in this very page using YouTube screengrabs for graphic comparisons?

And those places with the worse textures in bond is pretty much from one area outside of main area, you don't see this level of textures in other places.
What a shameless liar.. lol

Don't worry, I'll be getting the game soon and I'll take plenty of my own.

Very bizarre game to decide to die on.

Uncharted is a freakin looker even now but let's be real, it's held back by it's lighting by today's standard. ND did a great job overall but you can see the limits on shadowed places. And that's normal.
I'm yet to try 007 (waiting for PT) but I think it's fair to say it looks good, yet it's still IOI, not Naughty Dog with unlimited budget and a single platform to focus on.

Also please Vick Vick it's indeed tiring to scroll your post, even on desktop with 1Gbps fiber connection.

007 First Light costed twice as much as Uncharted 4 to make.

And 5-6 years of development versus 2.

I doubt because in that very same video they claimed a 10 year old PS4 game looked better.. I would be pretty furious if I was the sponsor.

They also pointed out low res assets...
Personally, I don't think it was sponsored. Afterall, you can see in this Thread some people are impressed by the game.

And I will be too for sure when Path Tracing releases.

I was also able to recreate washing machine with full textures finally (after changing texture settings back and forth in game) Gonzito Gonzito - it's in a different place but still loaded low res assets when I first saw it :

Game is absolutely bugged when it comes to texture streaming, low res assets some people see are not the intended ones.

And I try to use 4k captures from youtue, trying to use as highest quality sorurces. You just post something that looks like 1080p source.

I wonder what's gonna happen on console, where you can't change texture settings back and forth.

So there's even a third version here?

Or is the equally crap top one the intended version?

Is that awful looking thing on the right, the indiscernibile rolled object, also not loaded or that's the best version of it..

Based on what you said, I'll be expecting a complete absence of bad looking assets in Vietnam. And everywhere else aside from that chapter. Let's see if the game disappoints.

Let's leave the past, and focus on the future which of those titles are you excited about or want to see on the upcoming June showcases :-
-Gears E Day's
-Intergalactic
-Faye God of war
-Fable
-Exdous
-Harry Potter 2
-Uncharted 5
-Blood message
-Virtua Fighter VI
-Tes VI
-Wolverine
-OD
-The physint
-Resonanse
-The Witcher 4
-Cyperpunk 2 on UE6
-Black myth zhong kai
-Ill
-Others

GTA 6 is obviously everyone first choice so I take it out from list

Y'all are cherry picking the hell out of UC4 to make it worse than it is. I played it again a few months ago and it still holds up very well against "modern" games.

I don't know if those are the best assets, this is the issue when texture A loads highest lod but texture B don't. Games with texture streaming bugs load assets at random (FC6 was like that on launch).

I suspect consoles are similar, you get random textures. We have to wait for a fix.

Yeah i was about to say. I seen 1 or 2 bad textures in the whole game and it was not even on the main path. While the game has some weaker ones, Gonzito Gonzito s pictures seemed like a bug to me

It is just as easy to cherry pick bad shots from Bond as it is to do so in Uncharted. The difference is that Uncharted was designed around a console that was 6x weaker while having half the ram.

That's the point. In 2026, Bond is not remotely impressive. As long as my eyes continue to function, i can't be convinced otherwise. I've seen the game, I am not impressed.

Uncharted was designed to run on one single machine. Bond has to run on 4 different systems with an additional 2 versions (Xbox Series S/PS5 Pro).

Mind you I'm not saying Uncharted is over rated and Bond is the best looking game ever. Far from it, I still think ND are not far from being the graphic kings (R* comes to mind as a competitor but not much else). And I don't even like the Glacier Engine, I hate how it render the NPCs for example and the animation are far too robotic for my taste (that is a direct consequence of ND awesome skeleton system btw).

You can praise both while also understanding why Uncharted 4 had an edge more than 10 years ago (in addition to the fact that there are some very talented people at ND that have great eyes for photorealism).

UC4 is full of low quality assets when you play it - PS4 quality assets that looked good in 2016. Many UC4 pics you see here (not mine of course lol) are designed to make the game look as best as possible.

Bond if not even close to being among the best looking games this gen but overall assets quality is higher than in 10 year old Uncharted, people are reaching with conclusions that it's not (and texture bug problem doesn't help). Lighting in bond is one gen apart from ND game (even SW version of RT).

But of course there are aspects of UC4 that are better than in the newest IO game.

Of course..

The gameplay pictures posted are "designed" to present how the game feels while playing, when you notice in motion the thousand of impressive stuff they packed into the game.

Only you could suggest the crap you posted would better represent the real Uncharted 4.. because if that was the case of course so many people would still talk about this game 10 years later, and make it win comparisons against the new ones.. right? Perfectly logical.

Source? Also 100M (for example) in 2012 - 2016 isn't the same as 100M in 2022 - 2026.
You can Google, estimated budget for Uncharted 4 go from the most widespread information around, that's 50 millions, to the most recent and highest estimate (inclusive of marketing) of 90-100 millions.

Even going for the highest estimate, $100.000.000 in 2016 translate to $138,754,286.33 in 2026. Still way, way below Bond's $200.000.000.

Uncharted 4 took 5 years. At least that's what I'm finding, so pretty much the same as Bond.
The Uncharted 4 we have was made in just a little more than 2 years. And was developed during a full restructuring of the studio, to boot.

So we don't really know? Got it.

Context is important, again. They developed this game for 4 consoles with 2 additional versions, not one.

Ok, story/gameplay was rebooted (that explain a lot honestly) but do you really think they threw away all the assets, all the modeled NPCs, all the textures etc? Let's be realistic…
Show me anything that proves that the whole engine was upgraded and finalized in 2 years and that everything was produced during this timeframe. That includes texture work, NPCs, skybox etc etc... everything that's part of the visual presentation.

If you can find a proof that all of that was made in 2 years, then fair.

Certainly, but you haven't addressed it. You're ignoring every bit of context because it doesn't fit your narrative.

Also please it's still very annoying to navigate this thread, you need to put more images/gif under spoiler.

Looks like we have different Uncharted 4 version. My version represents PS4 graphics quality (it's a PS4 game), your version looks like a PS6 title.

And this is 4k 60fps version of the game. In 2016 it was 1080p 30fps.
