Greta Thunberg is an annoying idiot that will turn millions off to environmental preservation

What's wrong with complaining about a puppet that went to the UN to make a speech?

Oh I get she is passionate and such but really if you're going to be on TV and in front of political figures then maybe you should have some actual ideas, proposals, plans, anything other than "how dare you?"

I dont care if it's a 16 year old girl or a 56 year old man but that whole "someone else needs to fix what I'm upset about" attitude seriously turns me off. When all someone can do is just be upset, blame others and demand it be taken care of without any kind of insight or ideas then I dismiss them. If you're going to sit at the adult table you need to be able to behave like an adult.

I mean I can bitch about let's say the economy all day and get on tv but what happens then? I dont actually know anything about how it works or have any idea how to improve it or anything.

I didnt know who she is and had to YouTube her speaking. Bottom line is she is only recognized for being ballsy and emotional. She doesn't actually have anything worth considering or paying attention. The adults have to pay attention because she is a young girl and they dont want to see anti feminist, and other kids pay attention because they are as equally emotional as her but much like her dont actually know much so they just run purely on emotion.

Maybe in 10 years she will go to school, learn something, mature and come back and try again.

This right here is some big brain shit: thinking that the discussion is about her specifically rather than the ideology she is being used as a meat shield for.
Exactly.

All these eco-warriors seem to have made a last ditch effort on a 16 year old Aspergers Syndrome teenager. I can understand she knowing nothing about how to improve the environment, but for all the adults backing her who get ignored it goes to show they offer little to incentivize companies and countries to do better. That's why no adult seems to come in after to give ideas.

As I said in the other thread, money talks.

If all the eco-supporters want big organizations to change, then spill the beans how to do it? Show all the people the big piles of money they are leaving on the table by wasting time and money on inefficient processes. And in turn that should lead to less waste and pollution.

They'll bite. Nothing makes manufacturing, inventory control, and purchasing departments happier than running a business with less materials needed.

Instead, these people have nothing to say. All while energy usage improvements are relied upon by the actual workers to come up with the ideas.

Here's an idea. If eco-warriors are so smart in energy usage and decreasing pollution, how about join in and show all these plant managers and farmers with farting cows that this or that can be done to cut back on waste.... which leads to improved profits.

I don't see anything of late.

Biggest push was solar panels and look how that turned out. Homeowners and businesses have to buy insanely expensive gear. Nobody is going to make back money. And that even excludes all the hassle of setting up the gear. Such a sour industry, half the solar companies went broke 10 years ago.

I work with engineers and geologists. Most, myself included, believe that human-induced climate change is a real phenomenon but that it's a very low baseline trend that will take much, much longer than 12 years to have any significant effect on the planet. I mean this is literally what the science I'm aware of says, so emotional appeals to "#Believe scientists!" by children and other retards who haven't even read the science have no effect on me. Even though I believe that it's a real phenomenon, I don't believe that the solution is to castrate ourselves at the Altar of Intersectionality and allow socialists, communists (what's the practical difference anyway) and China to seize control of the future. To me, that's a much worse fate than the planet heating by a couple of degrees over 50+ years. That's plenty of time to develop technological solutions without allowing Useful Idiots to implement their idiotic plans and cause mass starvation.
For a cyberbully, you really are smart.

People like this bug the hell out of me. You'll happily reep all the benefits that past generations have made for you, but then you'll turn around and blame them for stealing your dreams and your childhood? Ungrateful little brat.

Would you be happier if your childhood was hundreds of years ago in medieval times before man starting using fossil fuels, but your quality of life plummets? This girl probably couldn't even go one day without her smartphone.

Not that it matters since it most likely didn't change anyone's opinion on climate change. The only real effect was giving people something to fight about on Twitter.

Still I feel that those who disagree with the alarmist view on the subject fell into the formed habit of snarky response directed at the girl. Who really had no chance to sway policy one way our another. The need to piss on their opponents moment was overall a bad look and unnecessary. I'm totally guilty of this myself.

A simple "Yeah she is passionate advocate for climate change, but it really does nothing to alter my view of the subject." Would have taken care of it.

Greta Thunberg was born on 3 January 2003 in Stockholm,[8][9] the daughter of opera singer Malena Ernman and actor Svante Thunberg.[10] Her paternal grandfather is actor and director Olof Thunberg.[11]

Thunberg says she first heard about climate change in 2011, when she was 8 years old, and could not understand why so little was being done about it.[12] Three years later she became depressed and lethargic, stopped talking and eating, and was eventually diagnosed with Asperger syndrome,[13] obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD),[13] and selective mutism.[13][14] While acknowledging that her diagnosis "has limited me before", she does not view her Asperger's as an illness and has instead called it her "superpower".[14]

For about two years, Thunberg challenged her parents to lower the family's carbon footprint by becoming vegan and giving up flying, which in part meant her mother had to give up her international career as an opera singer.[10][15]

In late 2018, Thunberg began the school climate strikes and public speeches by which she has become an internationally recognized climate activist. Her father does not like her missing school, but said: "[We] respect that she wants to make a stand. She can either sit at home and be really unhappy, or protest, and be happy".[15] Thunberg says her teachers are divided in their views about her missing class to make her point. She says: "As people they think what I am doing is good, but as teachers they say I should stop."[15]

Thunberg published a collection of her climate action speeches, No One Is Too Small to Make a Difference, in May 2019[17] with the earnings being donated to charity.[18] In one of her first speeches demanding climate action, Thunberg described the selective mutism aspect of her condition as meaning she "only speaks when necessary".[12] In 2019, Thunberg also contributed a voiceover for a release of "The 1975", the theme song of an English band by the same name. Thunberg finishes by urging: "So, everyone out there, it is now time for civil disobedience. It is time to rebel." Proceeds will go to Extinction Rebellion at Thunberg's request.[19]

Transatlantic voyage

Main article: Voyage of Greta Thunberg

In August 2019, Thunberg sailed across the Atlantic Ocean from Plymouth, UK, to New York, US, in a 60 ft racing yacht equipped with solar panels and underwater turbines. The trip was announced as a carbon-neutral transatlantic crossing serving as a demonstration of Thunberg's declared beliefs of the importance of reducing emissions.

The voyage lasted 15 days, from 14 to 28 August 2019. While in the Americas, Thunberg attended the UN Climate Action Summit in New York City, and will attend the COP 25 Climate Change Conference in Santiago, Chile, in December.[20][21]

What the fuck is this, an Adam Sandler movie?

As a left leaning guy, with a scientific background, that works in the environmental protection field, and has always done his best to educate people on how humans can have a detrimental effect on the world around them if they're not educated on the consequences of their actions, I don't even disagree with the broad message she's giving, but even I find her an absolute fucking embarrassment.

A scared, mentally ill child having a panic attack and screaming in fear about subjects she doesnt really understand, being propped up by billionaires, self interested politicians, far left extremists and greedy/partisan journalists is some of the most blatantly underhanded and manipulative propaganda I have ever witnessed.

It has all the subtlety and depth of shrieking "Won't somebody think of the children!". Theres no real arguement, no nuance, no authority, no accountability, rigor or scientific justification, just a cheap grab for the emotions.

It just sickens me and makes me angry that it's inevitably going to undermine actual efforts to convince people changes need to be made, all while far left extremists use her to distract from the fact they're pushing identitarian religious dogma and socialism under the guise of 'saving the environment'.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
As much as her intentions are pure and she wants a good cause, touting her a lot makes her look like a spoiled first world child who’s preaching to the middle class first world people.

Compared to Malala, Malala talks about actual problems and things actually happening around her that need to be solved.

In a few years, after this fad wears out she will realize that she should have been studying and she needs a job to pay bills, and will become just another normal person.
Unless she decides to do eco green zero emissions porn (they'll invent it by then).

Oh come on, dude...

She might be some privileged child without a clue, but a nazi?
That word gets thrown about a bit too easily these days, imo.

She is a kid with autism, don't get so mad at her. Adults shouldn't be getting angry at kids with autism.

I will keep my outrage for stuff like 164 environmental activists murdered in 2018 by corporations or corrupt governments working for corporations and nobody gives a fuck about that.

If you get "turned off" on climate change due to this girl, I believe the point was missed entirely.

What do you mean by turned off? That you think we don’t believe climate change exists? That it’s not a problem? That we disagree with her proposed solutions? You need to be more specific.

Greta herself doesn’t bother me but the people behind her that are managing her should absolutely be ashamed of themselves.

She’s 16 she should be enjoying life not worrying about a grim dark future that might not even happen. Yes most of the human race are aware that using huge amounts fossil fuels isn’t a good idea and many are taking steps to reduce their personal own carbon footprint but this kid has very little knowledge of how our entire global economy works and is built on fossil fuels that she has had a personal benefit from.

Logging into Neogaf to complain about a 16 year old, bro come on...

Leftists carting out a child to sell climate change, and then the content and delivery of her diatribes. Potential Nobel prize winner Greta Sourpuss isn’t worthy of discussion? Bro come on...

She has an incredibly annoying face and way of speaking but she's only 16 and I'm sure she means well so I'll give her a pass.

Also makes for a terrific wank.
Lock yourself in a sauna, pretend that the world is pretty much over due to climate change. Greta is older and angrier than ever now that the world is over and nobody listened to her. In the blazing heat you find her in the desert wasteland that was once Sweden and give her a good seeing to from behind. She tries to complain and moan in that preachy voice of her but you know she loves it really as she realises that what her childhood was missing was these nuts deep inside her.

I enjoy these kind of political/SJW myself.

The more weird shit and weird people I see in the world, the better I feel. And entertaining too.

Here I am be a boring square not doing anything crazy in life, making a good living, and my biggest worry is how much money I'm going to make on my investment property when I sell it.

And then you got shit to read like Greta, the Gamestop Maam guy/girl, US politics, Jussie Smollet, Cringe thread, Alex H/Zoe Quinn debacle etc...... All this fun comes from just one forum's thread submissions.

I fully welcome this shit. Just don't do it at my front door. lol
You are right, I try not to get triggered and not take the world too seriously anymore. Society is a joke, and if planet Earth had any feelings, Then Humanity has been a terrible burden on it's emotions and a parasitic, Chronic cancer.

How we wen't from monkeys falling out of trees when we were trying to fly, To creating inventions that revolutionized mankind for our benefit and convenience to putting a full on retard with no credentials in the White House.
