GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

What exactly is the difference between cockpit view and interior view?

lmao @ the meltdowns already commencing :lol

Cockpit view = Cockpit view
Interior view = Inside of the car with full detail.

It's either a translation error or a massive letdown for some of the people.

Pity about the bit of news on Autoblog today as I'm a huge fan of GT5P's cockpit view details. Hope it's a mistranslation.

Do we know how many standard cars vs. premium cars?
Even with just a tire view your pwned! lol

How about you come back into the Forza thread and answer questions about your game that we've been posting since 4/8 (the last time Jube posted in the thread) instead of raising questions about another game. A good amount of us have stuck with the game since launch (I'm well over 400 hours without being a painter/tuner) and I'm not a big fan of how you guys have left our questions unanswered since the last console update.

Thanks.

To those people who keep saying that cars will have cockpit view but only some will have interior view. So lets suppose you're racing in cockpit view and you decide press what ever button you press to look left/right/behind you, do you think that camera will automatically switch from the inside of the car to the outside? like there'll be no view that lets you see the rear seats and through the rear windshield? I ask this because as i said earlier there are 70 cars in GT5:P and cars like the VW golf GTI, Lancia Delta, Suzukia Cuppacinos etc. etc. all have fully modeled interiors. You're telling me that all these cars will be considered "premium" cars in GT5 while PD will select a special set of cars that will be considered "standard"? or maybe PD will just remove the interiors from all the "standard" cars in GT5:P that appear in GT5. Either way i'm gonna be pissed when i decide to take my "insert year here" Skyline "insert spec here" for a spin only to find out i wont be able to view the interior of my car while some guy gets to view the interior of his Suzuki Cervo SR '07.

'nuff said.

For those that don't know what exactly is being discussed, all cars will have cockpit view. The 170 or so premium cars are the ones that will show interior damage as well as exterior damage. The rest will show only exterior damage, these are being referred to as the standard cars.

This was all discussed months ago when we first learned that some cars would have interior damage.

Except at the time interior damage didn't literally mean that the cockpit of your car got smashed up in a way you could see, it meant that your engine, wheels, brakes, gearbox etc got damaged... and then it was that you could lose a door, like in the gameplay vids... and then it was that you'd have airbags and the driver cell deforming... and then it was that you would have bodywork deformation but some cars would just get paint scratches.

:lol

It's all bollocks right now. Hilarious that a game this big is so light on details at this stage... and so short on clarification when misleading information gets out there.

What you are referring to is exterior damage which we found about first, then we found out about mechanical damage, then interior damage.

We have never really seen the mechanical or interior damage. But the interior damage will be cockpit/interior damage on the 170 or so premium race cars.

Its hard to keep up with it all if you don't follow GT5's development.

Where? I'm referring to damaged suspensions, engine failure and the like.

First time the Tokyo track was shown iirc. People were reporting you not being able to shift gears anymore and stuff like that.

Huh, when I click on this Autoblog link now, it just redirects me to the front page of that site. :lol Can't find the supposed interview anymore.

I'm guessing standard cars will adopt the GT PSP view with the windshield and A pillar view while premium models will have the GT5P cockpit treatment.

So does anyone know how many total cars and how the roster is split between standard vs. premium?

Never came across that. But its good to know its been experienced.

You're guessing nonsense.

As it has been posted before, simple/uninteresting cars already have full cockpit on GT5 Prologue...

Roaster is 1000+ and the split will be between full body damage vs scratches.

Enough with this cockpit nonsense.

All 950+ cars will have GT5P's cockpit view, 170 of those cars (premium race cars) will have interior damage modeling when severe accidents occur.

We have never really seen the mechanical or interior damage. But the interior damage will be cockpit/interior damage on the 170 or so premium race cars.
But we have... because realistically "interior" damage is going to be nothing more than the doors coming off / windscreen getting smashed up.

(and they've already shown off mechanical damage)

But that wasn't my point anyway. My point was that without clarification we know nothing... and they're no fan of clarification.

So they removed the page and redirected it. Guess PD/Sony asked them to fix/remove it. Or they took it down until they can confirm what they put down themselves.

The whole article was rubbish. The mention of "Premium" cars date back to GT HD in 2006, were the game was supposed to have upscaled GT4 cars, and others were gonna be fully detailed (the Premium ones). That idea was scraped by Kaz ages ago.

Doors flying open is exterior damage, interior damage is broken windshield and things like deformations to the dash and broken gauges. But don't think about an Audi A4's dash, these are premium race cars like Supper GT car cockpits.

Cockpit view x interior view is the new tracks/layouts/variations/locations.

I'm ok with not having info on the game and having monkeys handling their PR.

I just wish they would stop spreading doubts. That's not needed.

People giving answers are just guessing. I know we had some leaked press releases, but nobody knows the exact difference of premium/standard damage/views.

Nobody knows at this point, just like the track count thing.

Even if they tried harder, they couldn't mess up more on the PR regarding this game.

We are talking about Kaz and PD, even if they spilled the beans on GT5 it would be mistranslated and result in the same old info that has everyone confused already.

i have an feeling someone translated something wrong, but who knows really.
torontoml said:
Ya, saw that on GTPlanet a little while ago, I think someone mistranslated it. The Official PlayStation Magazines article on GT5 in February stated that all cars would have modeled cockpits. I know that this is the issue that later retracted their Indy car announcement, but they didn't retract anything else.

Maybe if they would just release it we would know then. :D

Well the term was still around at TGS or E3 last year whenever that list showed up on PD's Japanese site.

Last time this topic happened, massive lulz nearly locked the previous thread :lol

Its been debunked before. When PD gave tours to their studio last year, there were clearly pictures of cockpits being modeled on "regular" cars!

Plus the whole GT5P cockpit argument, etc.

Besides, the controversial interview has been taken down. So clearly they screwed something up.

So everybody needs to calm down. I dont want another GT5 thread locked FFS =/

i think it's likely that, by "internal view," he actually meant you can see the car's mechanics under the hood, especially since he was talking about this "internal view" together with damage model. i remembered seeing this GT5 reply clip in which a rally car was damage. its hood actually flipped up and you could see engines and other stuff beneath the hood. it would be pretty crazy if they would model everyone of those 1000 cars inside out.

You are a man of reason and open mind. We other narrowminded idiots didn´t think of the engine or the trunk, but of course you are right.

Anyway it wouldn´t really make sense if PD started removing cockpit view from all the standard cars of GT5P.

Those cars are the reason I buy GT games and it would be hard for me to care any less about the Ferraris and other exotics. If Polyphony cuts corners on the "normal cars" I'm going to be pissed!

Did you even read his post aside from the part you bolded?

edit: On second thought, studying the name and the avatar I might need my sarcasm meter checked :lol
