GT5 News - Nurburgring update (pre-E3 edition)

how is that a problem on a game like GT? i wanna know everything! the game is in development for 4+ years and all we know with 100% certain is that it has cars and tracks -.-

Its a problem for sony not GT! Seriously people..sony needs something to show at E3! Something to get people talking. We all know that.Microsoft is the biggest culprit when it comes to hiding info until the last minute. Why does polyphony get put on the spot for doing the same? Look at halo reach? Or all the previous halos for that matter. Or even gears.

Hopefully they have an introductory mode or a beginner mode were they teach people how to play GT as this will be my first in the series and I can't get the driving down:(

Play through the license tests and you'll be set. :)

First thing you should do is invest in a wheel and get used to playing prologue. Once you get past the challenges you can take it a step further by going after the top 100 times on the leader boards. This will help you a lot in the learning of the tracks and proper racing lines. After that its up to you to decide whether you wanna just play for fun or compete with the top drivers.

In GT5 the nose camera is mounted deep within the car, not actually on the bumper where it should be. Watch this collision...

Notice how contact with the wall seems a little premature? That's been an issue for me since GT5 videos first started hitting the internet and I think Prologue might have been similar but I can't remember now. And it's particularly aggravating when you accidentally rear-end a car thinking that you have more room to maneuver.

I'm not disagreeing with you but I think that video is a bit misleading. I can't speak for GT5 because I have never played it, but from my experience from the majority of GT games that I have played, most (not all) barriers/walls/rails tend to a have a 1-2 foot invisible cushion themselves. Pop in GT5 Prologue and see for yourself. Drive in 3rd person and see how close you can get to a barrier and you will see that you cannot contact it.

So Beautiful.

what, you people have never played a racing game in night mode?

Of course we all have; the difference is that some (me certainly) are expecting headlamps to play more of a role in GT5, rather than having the whole course bathed in streetlights, and day/night cycles so as to do real 24h races.

Add in the backlit dashboards, heads-up displays on the windscreen, and night racing could be something really special in GT5.

i can't think of any other game released this generation which occurs night races on all tracks with the exception of need for speed carbon and burnout paradise.

Is the LF-A confirmed in this at all? I'd love to just play around with it in cockpit view. That instrument cluster is fuck awesome on so many levels.

I don't care what Richard Hammond says, I'd be proud to say I owned that Lexus. :D

I agree. It's a badass car. Looks and sounds absolutely amazing.

First off I agree with the others in saying that we don't want to see a Forza-esque payout. It takes the grinding to another level and when you want to upgrade cars it leaves you no money to do anything. Didn't want to make any comparison to get banned but since others did I'm going for it. :)

About that "bumper" cam...this is the cam I'm using until they have an adjustable cockpit view or hood view and all I have to say is that you should get used to it.

I would like to think that it in fact sits over the front axle.

I think it's better than a literal bumper cam because the distance between the bumper and front axle is different in many cars and it affects how you perceive the car to react to steering.

Driving from a hood/cockpit gives you the most honest representation because the distance between the driver and front axle of the car is accurate.

Say you're driving this older Jag XK8:
1999-Jaguar-XK8.jpg

Pretty apparent that a camera on the front bumper would "feel" a certain way when driving. The front tip of the car is a good distance from the tires. A camera on the front axle would feel another. The cockpit view would feel different than the first two.

Because the pivot point is on those front two tires it will affect how the car feels. In GT I think it sits on the front axle so that way if you go from this car to a car like the Embolado concept the distance from the front bumper to axle won't matter.

This has always been the theory of myself and the guys I play with locally. We could be wrong.

Why would they bother getting the systems in place for night races and then limit them to one track?

We could have asked them that about previous GT titles. It's just wise to keep expectations low when it comes to this. Nothing is impossible but...

Physics are way off.

Could look a bit off but I'd like to think it's due to a tight suspension. Read: Sports bra.

Project Gotham 3 and 4.

Project Gotham 4 had night and dynamic weather at the same time. With puddles which were an incredible touch. You could hydroplane or plow into them slowing you down.

I previously thought that GT should also adopt these puddles because they do change the dynamics of the track but upon more research I've found that many racetracks are designed with water runoff in mind so that pools of water are minimized off track. It would only be fitting when racing through city locales.

Depends on how much you're willing to pay. Quality wheels will range from $120 (Driving Force GT) - $300 (G27 or Fanatec wheel).

the game was developed from beginning to end with the DFGT, if that helps. Every time its demo'd or we get in-house video from PD, there are DFGTs at every desk.

e: correction

The Driving Force GT is labeled as the "GT5 wheel", can't get better than that, I think.

That's up to you. If you feel like waiting till GT5 that's cool but if you want to have a head start/get used to a wheel setup, i suggest you pick up prologue (should be able to find a copy somewhere for around $20) and a Driving force GT (They go for like $125 on amazon, and if you're really strapped for cash you can opt for a used one for about $50 less) or the more expensive/better quality G25/G27 (If you have the cash to spare) and you're set. I must warn you though it can get quite addictive and you can become quite frustrated when trying to shave the precious tenths of a second off of your times but in the end its quite gratifying :D

Anyone tried GT5P with the black PC MOMO wheel? (I can pick it up really cheap) and if so does FFB work?

I've been playing Forza 3 with a steering wheel for months, and going back to using a controller, especially DS3 which I don't like anyway, sucks.

It works fine, only the four bottons in the front and the shifters work thought, so no stick :(. About the FFB, I think it works but im not totally sure.
