Halo 3 Hype Train Pitstop: EGM's gotta leak

Did somebody in here say Crackdown had good co-op?! I mean, Gears is understandable but Crackdown?! Jeez, if you both got far away only one of you would be having things spawning, the other being left in a city wasteland.
What game are you playing? I logged a lot of hours on Crackdown co-op and never had this problem.

what if this one gets the 3 red lights? will they able to send you the same unit? or some refurbed premium?
Just... doesn't... Compute. :|

*PM 2 Jeff Bell* Yo, Dawg. Yep. Another one to... "silence" :lol

its true if they can do co-op with Crackdown and stuff, they should be able to do it with Halo 3. these past couple days are just bad for MS. first peter moore than no xo7 and now viva piñata party animals????
Crackdown's AI isn't close to Halo 3's, to be fair.

To be fair, just about every aspect of Halo 3 will out pace Crackdown. It was a fun game though. I really enjoyed it.

And in giant text in the article there's a Bungie designer (don't recall who) saying that because people loved Lockout, they wanted to make sure that maps of that size were represented.

Also, Epitaph is a very small, close-quarters combat map.

Edit: and then there's Snowbound. *smacks forehead*

They made Lockout bigger. From the leaked video, it seems like Epitaph is at least medium-sized. Snowbound is not small.

Epitaph seemed decently sized. The scans I saw reminded me heavily of Halo 2's Colossus.

That packaging really is slick. It's consistant with the Zune box as well.

"Halo 3 game not included"

I maintain that's a very strange decision. :\

Day one: Here's the 360 bundle plan. Should we include Halo 3?

Which version? Limited? Legendary? Regular?

OK, maybe we should let them choose their own version.

Yes, we know. We've all seen the proofs. Please stop rubbing it in. It hurts.

Yeah, I know. It makes sense to do it this way. BUT! You could simplify the situation by just releasing the LE as the regular SKU and dropping the others.

And that's why I'm not in marketing. :lol

Yeah, I can see people bitching about wanting to buy the Halo 360 but having already pre-ordered some edition of Halo 3 and not wanting to have to "buy the game again".

That's what people said about the MS Wireless Wheel that included PGR3.

I said I THINK Bungie has given up on smaller sized maps and gave evidence as to why I think that. No need to be an idiot.

ZOMG! You've played the new Lockout? How was it? Surely you speak with such expertise. What do you think of its weapon placement, vantage points and spawn points?

Should have been...

Regular - Just the game...
Limited - Game with a few extras...
Legendary - Game with a bundle of extras...
Elite - Game with a Halo 3 edition 360!!!

Then you have 4 game options...

(Yes I know that would be overkill... :D )

So, uh, when does this issue of EGM come out? Could that date be posted on the front page, as well? Considering you ARE leaking their stuff? :lol

EGM scans.

The issue is set to arrive in stores on August 7th. It should hit subscribers a week or two before then.

Smaller...

But Halo 3 might suffer from the fast food syndrome. What once was medium is now small, what once was large is now medium. Just maybe...

I don't know, it sounded an awful lot like you were pretty damn convinced:
So Bungie has completely given up on making small maps? C'mon, at least Lockout sized.

To be honest though I never really liked the ridiculously small maps like Warlock so this wouldn't bother me.

Nobody showed no Lockout. Nobody abandoned no map sizes.

Do you not see the question mark? And yeah, I'm sure the majority of Halo fans don't like small maps like Warlock and Midship, but many do. It just seems to me that Bungie is catering to your "BIGGER, BETTER" crowd.

I see slashdot and cvg talking about the lack of online co-op in Halo 3 now.

Nice Frankie quote though:

We're not dumb, we know that people want it and we're trying to make it happen. I think the biggest problem for us for online co-op is that we have a situation where you can be in a Warthog with five troops, almost a mile away from the other player. That's a significant challenge. And there's lots of design things you could do to prevent that from happening, but they would make it not feel like Halo anymore. If we can make it happen in a way that works well, we will - and if it works badly, we won't."

Yes, I definitely realize this - it was more of a hypothetical, since I doubt Bungie would abandon such maps (they're bound to include at least one, and more to come through DLC). I think Stinkles' post settles it.

Pretty cool, btw.:D

If I didn't already have a 360, I would most certainly try to buy one of these. As it is, I have enough problems with the one I have.

People don't like Midship? Probably my favourite map after Lockout. Then again, some people like Ivory Tower :/ Warlock however is terrible, but would be slightly better without Battle Rifles.

Midship is probably my favorite of the tiny maps. Actually, I think Warlock might be the only one that I actively hate on, but I prefer medium sized maps in general.

people keep bringing up the halo 1 teleports, but think of how badly this would mess up the rumored scale of gameplay in h3... the two of you are fighting intense battles a mile apart, then you teleport out. not only will you be teleporting into a new battle, but the ai that was previously battling you will have to re-locate you and re-engage. it'd almost be like a cheat, player one and two separate the covenant forces, then teleport back together to finish off a more manageable half before the others re-group.

I know we're just speculating, I just really don't want bungie to compromise their original sp game design.

Warlock is bad because of the Battle Rifles. Whoever controls them will win. In Midship, there is a Sword, Shotgun, and rifles, but there's a lot more room to take cover than in Warlock and the ramps in Warlock are basically the only way you'll catch the other team.

That's why Team Duals or simply no Rifles in that map would be much better. But that is a certain Bungie Ninja's fault, just like removing CTF from Relic. :|

Crackdown's landmass is also a lot bigger than Halo 3 I would guess, to be fair.
Probably so.

But everybody is expecting big, massive levels and strong AI for co-op.

For Crackdown, you had a huge map but brain-dead AI.

For Gears, you had strong AI but levels not the close of what Crackdown or Halo 3 will be.

JdFoX187 said:

This is true, but from Frank's quote he was talking more about the difficulty of syncing the combat accross that space. Crackdown has pretty simple AI and very limited persistance, neither of which apply to Halo. I think this is a case where the differences are more important than the similarities.

Where's the wireless headset? Could this be a PSD?
I don't know what a PSD is, but Stinkles confirmed that it ships with a wired headset, not wireless. It was originally communicated to Bungie incorrectly. I think that's another indication that the box will be priced affordably (no wireless headset, 20 GB HD, etc).

siamesedreamer said:
Has it been priced yet?

Nope. MS is waiting to announce the price of the Halo 3 SKU and Elite in Europe until after they announce the price drop on the current SKUs.

Well, probably not, but I can hope.

siamesedreamer said:
You know if it'll come with a cable to transfer saves?

Doubt it. Although I wish we could do something like give EB or Gamecrazies a couple of cables for new purchasers of Elites and Halo 3 boxes that option on site. In the majority of cases however, it will be new purchasers.
