Halo 3 trailer on xbox live now.

Load up Halo2 on your xbox360 and say it looks like the trailer. It surely does not. If anything it looks like the Halo2 wallpapers bungie posted 2yrs ago.

So being better looking than Halo 2 makes it ok that Halo 3 is not visually impressive for a next-gen system?

Halo 3 should be standing toe to toe with stuff like MGS4. They're both 2007 titles and Bungie is damn good. Halo 3 looks more like the Naughty Dog PS3 game than MGS4 :\

I'm gonna get shot here, but I just finished my X360 downloads of all the trailers and of course I watched the H3 clip first and ummmm....wtf was that supposed to be the "MGS4" visuals of the X360?? I mean GoW looks a helll of a lot better graphically as do many X360 games. The scope was nice with lots of polygons pushed at one time, but the canyon textures were worse than the TGS MGS4 wall textures and the ships (besides the large one) looked like Halo2 ones in HD resolution. There wasn't really much next-gen about the trailer at all besides MC looking better and a good looking crashed down ship.

I know it's Halo 3 and so the gameplay will be ace (I even loved the Halo2 SP because the gameplay rocked so much), but Halo 1/2 were huge visual accomplishments. Halo 3 looks like one of the middle of the line X360 games, wtf has Bungie been doing?

nothing next gen about that trailer? oooookay.

Meh, I guess it was just that people were debating if it was CG vs. Realtime and considering everything in the trailer looked like it could be done today on the X360 in any high profile game on the shelf...I don't see how anyone could imagine it was CG. Oblivion environments kill the visuals in that trailer even if the characters don't look as good as the ONE character in the H3 trailer :P

And I haven't even tried the Lost Planet demo yet. From what people are saying I expect that to look better than H3 as well. I'll go do that.

I'm trying to figure out a reference point here. But Naughty Dog gets thrown in almost like some low point, and they make fantastic visuals, the trend seems to going strong again with that new jungle game, the animations were excellent, Naughty Dog does some of the best animation in the business, their transitions animations are amazing, so what's wrong again?

You're comparing like a 10 second closeup of MC,which looks incredible,to minutes upon minutes of MGS4 footage...wait til they actually show some more of Halo 3 before you start the Kojima cock worship.

To be fair I have my doubts that MGS4 will look *that* good when you're actually in-game with enemies on screen, AI to factor in, etc. etc. etc.

What's been shown on the PS3 to me looks like sequences that have no game A.I./engine running, its just the system running scripted sequences and throwing all its polys on screen at once.

I'll glady be wrong on that though if Mr. Kojima can prove otherwise.

No, the closeup looks fucking awesome and I'll give that total praise. MC's model looks fantastic. I'm just complaining about the 10 seconds of desert environment leading up to the closeup and the 10 seconds of ships sitting around with lots of lights after.

If the enemies look as good as MC then it'll look fantastic, so maybe you're right and we just need a trailer with tons of enemies on-screen and hopefully more interesting environments.

Plus it's not Kojima cock worship, Lost Planet did indeed looking damn nice. Excellent motion blur, great textures, and lots of small details + tons of stuff going on. I'd say GoW is the best looking X360 game but they need to get the framerate up to par and I doubt they care enough to get a stable 30fps. So right now I think LP takes the cake.

What the fuck are you going on about? Everything about that trailer was next-gen. I just downloaded on the 360. Looks freaking astounding. Lots of things are up for argument, but to say that trailer is not visually impressive is just flat-out stupid.

The animation in Naughty Dog's game was great, but I wasn't floored by the other aspects of the game. Not even close.

I'm surprised at the similarities in language between Cortana in this trailer and the Cortana letters from way back in '99 before we knew Halo existed... it was all blam! back then.

Some guys over at the HBO forums picked up on that, too. Very interesting; makes me wonder just how much of the story arc they had planned out back then or if it's just a reference for the fans.

Anyone spot the Easter egg that the Bungie FAQ mentions? I'm not sure what it is.

Whats with his armor (the little bumps all over it)? Looks like tin-foil or something.

Apart from a few things here and there, I think it looks pretty good.

Bungie mentioned that his armor is all blasted up from battle, lots of nicks and dings from combat. The trailer is from 1/3 through the game, after an epic battle where the MC gets knocked around quite a bit.

Well, heavenly sword sure looks the same in the gameplay vid. The cell is a monster cpu, this sure ain't your mamma's pentium iv, that'll cry even in scripted techdemos without ai or physics.

I hope the first couple of levels gives us the massive Earth battles that were promised to us. Tons of tanks, jeeps vs. banshees, ghosts, wraiths...I think I just soiled myself.

:lol

Well, it is a soil-worthy thought. :)

the best part of the trailer is the music. as far as theatrical scores go, that shit is pretty hot.

I'm sure MS snapped a few hundred thousand downloads of those.

I COULDN'T RESIST! :(

MS should buy theater time in November and show that trailer, and then plaster it on every major network on every commercial break on PS3 day.

haha do they even need to?

seriously though the music from that trailer is like superman but better

Not really, but it'd be a funny dick move. Especially if they added a card at the end of the trailer that said:

"Finish the Fight
2007
*no second mortgage needed"

Amen, I need to get the audio ripped from it. Love Halo's music more than anything about it. :)

This is some of Bungie's weaker music. Pretty generic, uninspiring orchestral stuff. I really don't see(hear) what people are splooging over. Bungie's best music, conversely, is probably from Myth. Now that game had a great soundtrack.

Yeah, the music on Halo is definitely a calling card. I guess Bungie and MS have Nile Rogers to thank some of that. He was the producer on these games:

Halo 1, 2,
Outlaw Volleyball- Xbox Game Soundtrack
Conker: Live and Reloaded
Advent Rising
Perfect Dark Zero
Halo 3(?) :)

Seriously, some of you people go nuts over the most cliched, uninspired game music just because it's orchestral. It's almost hilarious.

And yes, much better music has come out of Bungie.

Uhhh, what did you expect for a video game soundtrack, Beethoven's 5th. Anyway, you look at it, the Halo soundtracks are very nice productions. It sets the mood for the whole game IMO. Which BTW, is one reason why I hope, I hope, I hope that id/Raven do not fuck with the RTWC theme. Yes, it's not very complex, but it lays a dark undertone for the whole game.

Is Bungie using their own graphics engine, or are they using Unreal Engine 3?

For all that is right and holy in this world, their own engine.

if GOTS is given to a trailer, then people deserve to die.

Halo 3 is not game of show based on a trailer - if it's not playable on the floor, it shouldn't count.

For a deliberately subdued announcement for Halo 3, goddamn did that trailer blow me away. :D

Plenty of others have sung the praises for Marty's score, but the dramatic impact it has here and with the previous games cannot be overstated. The last time a video got me so excited for a game was, well, Halo 2's announcement at X02. This may surpass even that.

Hell, not only will Bungie "finish the fight", they'll win it. :D
