Thinking ADS is going to bring in the CoD kids?
Not necessarily, but it may get those who like the LT --- RT gameplay to stick around with Halo more if one of the most important parts to any shooter is similar to what they're comfortable with, the aiming. People like that style, but what I'm interested in seeing is how the reception will be to ADS + descope. I foresee some backlash from those who've always wanted ADS in Halo over traditional aiming + descope. Now that we're getting ADS, it's going to be interesting to see the reception of it included with descope, while not gimping the movement.

Next is to have them change motion tracker to sound-based radar and make backpack reloading a default thing, similar to Evolve, because it speeds up the gameplay on another level that's not directly connected to player movement and keeps players engaged in battle.

EDIT:
I wish they'd let you pick between the smart holo sights and traditional zoom though.
Didn't Frankie mention something about a toggle, so maybe this is what it's for? Any serious downside to letting people choose? I don't think so, and it would help with the resistance.

If anything, it's probably one of the smartest additions (hah, "smart" scope) because now Halo gets to get away with ADS while really not even having it. It panders to a crowd that wants that CoD feel, while maintaining the form and function that everyone knows Halo for. And it looks awesome, let's be honest.
LOL, no. ADS always looks like shit. Always.

Anyway, if the ADS is really just cosmetic, then 343 should have no problem making the classic zoom/scope an option.

You like the simplicity and elegance of the classic scope mechanic? You choose the classic scope. Want to have half your screen obstructed by your gun when zooming? You choose the new ADS scope. Win-win

If 343 wants to owe us and give us a present I vote for an option to choose old zoom for your setting.

As much as the ADS debate doesn't bother me, I'm totally in agreement with you (and others) on this. Make the new ADS the default, but make the old "linked visor scope" either a toggle or even perhaps an unlockable thing.

Done. Next topic?

Seriously, that would end this discussion if 343 did that, no? And how difficult would it be for them to implement that? What downsides would there be?

Running into a hilarious glitch on Halo 2A "Regret" right now. Sometimes when I kill an enemy they simply fly 50-75 feet into the air and then fall back down.

First time was on the gondola ride, I sniped a Jackal and he went flying waaaaaay into the air and then fell down into the water. Then a Drone in a big open area, just now an Elite on a cliff thing. Just goes flying for no reason. Hilarious.

The pro-ADS/CoD kids would complain that the people who don't like ADS get an innate advantage due to screen real estate being saved? IDK, devils advocating here.

I think I'll pass and vote for a sprint toggle instead. Shit should have much more priority and I will never stop complaining about that shit.

edit: I mean for custom games, since it's obvious if I ever want H1-3 gameplay i'll probably be relegated to Action Sack in new games.

Downside is that ADS people would get shit on by people using the better Scope mechanic. Then they would cry foul, instead of switching to the better Scope option.

1. switch to scope preference
2. crouchwalk everywhere so ADSers can't see you zoomed in thanks to the hugeass weapon occupying their screen
3. ????
4. ELIMINATE THE ENEMY TEAM

Did anyone else get the glitch on the "Arbiter" level where your phantom escort during the Banshee pursuit section literally buggers out and essentially flies around in circles for a solid minute or two?

BUUUUGGGGGYYY

Also, I've had several segments of the H2A campaign where the AI flat out will NOT follow me around. Most notably where the marine that appears mid-way crossing the New Mombasa bridge doesn't not hop on the tank and on "Oracle" where reinforcements are dropped off right after Flood Hell-evator/Flood Hall just stand there.

This is an example of good glitches that really enhance the game for me. Unless you're one of those weirdos who get taken out of the experience by it. In which case just make up a reason.

Seriously if they have the option to switch but just don't ever do it then they can shut up and deal with it. Obviously a pretty animation is more important to them than their performance.

Toggle sprint sounds good. However...

In recognition of the difficulties so many of you ran into when trying to play over the first few days, we're adding five days’ worth of extra time to every subscription in the Americas, Oceania, and Europe that was active as of Friday, November 14. Things are already in a much better place than they were going into the weekend, so I hope you’ll now be able to focus on having a ton of fun with this expansion.

So...Beta extension for Halo 5?

I mean if WoW had issues and people are getting 5 days subscription to make up for it, shouldn't we get something for compensation?

Oh no that was a 'I'm confused' remark...lol

I had no idea it was referring to WoW and I'm at work so link is blocked, haha XD

I had this happen to me as well. Same part on the Metropolis bridge. Also in Delta Halo when the tank section ends and the Pelican drops off reinforcements, they wouldn't follow inside that structure, which was annoying since I went out of my way to give two of them a sniper and beam rifle. In Regret the marines who rode the first water elevator with me wouldn't continue past that first large room with the hunters (I think this happened in the original). In Sacred Icon the elites that land after going down the largest chute just stood there. I'm sure there were more incidents but those are the only ones I remember off the top of my head.

Somehow I feel like after the Halo 5 Beta it will be super hard to go back to H2A. Don't get me wrong - I love H2A - but I expect it will feel very slow and nostalgic afterwards.

Man, Chief has such a badass aura about him in the first few games.

Arbiter: "The human that killed the Prophet of Regret. Who was it?"

Tartarus: "Who do you think?"

Arbiter legit shook: "The Demon is here?"

Then he's a bitch in Halo 4 that nobody even cares about "Oh hey thought you'd be taller sup"

yeah i wasn't a fan of how little fanfare/respect Chief seemed to get in H4

Afterwards? After Halo 4 and Destiny, to me H2A feels that way NOW, lol.

That said, it's my favorite multiplayer in the entire package, sitting right next to Halo CE.

The final cutscene in 4 was pretty cool. Everyone was kinda like "Woah"

That cutscene is actually really fucking badass.

Yeah, it already feels weirdly slow. No where near as much as 3 does though, it feels like you're ambling along on a gentle stroll in 3

I'm probably LTTP on this, but does the bar above the shield bar in H5 indicate time until shield recharge? If so, that's really awesome, especially given that sprint disables recharge.
Also, I think I need to modify my earlier opinion on Ground Pound after watching that recent gameplay vid. While I'm fine with it being a 1sk for a direct hit, I don't think there should be enough splash damage to knock shields down. A knock back and maybe 25-50% shield drain seems more fair since a shield drop is basically a kill. Aerial attacks should be difficult to pull off successfully, which makes them more rewarding when you get them right.

Yeah, it appears that it is. It is a really nice piece of info to have actually.

Then again, better players will probably get good at thrusting away from ground pounds and wrecking the attacker, so idk. I'll have to play with it.

i honestly still dont think that compares to the respect level he got in the bungie games.

Hood pretty much puts Chief in charge of defending Cairo station almost entirely by himself. The Covenant continually single him out as "the demon". "I didn't think they'd send a Spartan". Etc.

Decided to just blow through and speedrun Halo 2A up until I get the terminals.

First terminal is super cool, showing the history of 'Vadam/Arbiter.

And it shows a bit of Jai and Gray Team. So that's fun.

Speaking of Gray Team, where the fuck are they? Still missing?

Eh, it kinda makes a bit more sense though. Spartans became a lot more common in the time between 3 and 4. The introduction of the Spartan IVs kinda reduced their mythical status. It makes sense that the Chief is actually seen as a bit of an antique by then.

However I do agree that there doesn't seem to be very much surprise when he returns, it's all a bit like "meh, you're back". That said in the jungle level you do hear the marines sounding quite shocked.

Edit: Found this rather strange glitch in Halo 3 on High Ground. Not sure if it was in the original game: http://xboxclips.com/video.php?uid=...n Li&vid=4aa11cd1-45df-4ca6-a08a-2ada6c6823f4

I had a question about the "sprint prevents shield recharge" mechanic:

Have they discussed specifically if it simply delays/resets the delay before recharge or do shield not recharge PERIOD while sprinting? For example, you're sprinting away with shields drained, you stop to let them begin recharging but then begin to sprint again. In this scenario would the shield continue to recharge as normal or would it stop the instant you started sprinting again? (I'm assuming the former)

My opinion of what would be the "ideal" ground pound:
  • Direct Hit = OHKO
  • Knick/Five Foot Radius = Knocks out Shields
  • Five to Ten Foot Radius = Shield/Knock Back decreases over distance
  • Beyond Ten Feet = Nothing (You Lose)

At this point my only expectation is that matchmaking gets fixed up and ranks get rolled out to a more sane ensemble of hoppers than what was previously available before they stripped to the bare essentials.

An "apology" gift would be nice, but I don't require that. I do want my game to work properly.

I still think that line was hilarious and perfectly executed. Palmer has a chip on her shoulder, so what.

It's clearly apparent that she is supposed to come off as dick-measuring, especially considering what Jem pointed out about how the marines in the area are more in awe of him right before the cutscene. Even though she of course... is uh.. is a 'she'. lol

I just keep seeing her in my mind as an alternate universe renegade Fem Shep. The person playing as her must have their finger on the right trigger AT ALL TIMES!
:p

One of the best additions.

Yup, and it's partially why I'm excited to try Halo 5. The last thing I want is another slow-walking Halo game with weapons that don't reach past 20ft., so let's see how this goes. At least we have the other Halo games to instantly jump back to, granted 343 fixes TMCC before Halo 5 releases :b

Halo 3 would bomb if it released today, exactly as it was back then.

Well maybe that will help with pinging people across maps, something many people here have a problem with. Couple that with less aim assist and it might be alright.

It's weird how I despise ADS, but I'm actually looking forward to trying this out lol. I know a lot of people who will probably be excited because of the LT -- RT style, and it's something I'm looking forward to because I tested the Fishstick control scheme in Halo 4, but there was no descoping so pressing LT again was a biatch. If there was descope, I might've rocked out with Fishstick.

I am a Bumper Jumper :(

Haha, the second Attack on Titan soundtrack uses the "strings clicking in the air as you're about to enter T&R on Keyes" sample Halo CE does.

It just seems weird to me that in the couple of years from Halo 3 to Halo 4 he goes from state of the art soldier superhero to treated like he's slightly outdated.

Yes it's true, turns out the uninformed it's you.

Also, it doesn't look different, the word you are looking for is WORSE.

Just like sprint, perks and killstreaks did. That worked wonders Tawp :/

BTW all this is coming from a guy who thinks the pinnacle of Reach's gameplay was Invasion on Spire, hope that put things into perspective about the fear of change and whatnot.

+1

Thinking ADS is going to bring in the CoD kids?

giphy.gif

Why would they want that anyway? Forget sales, H4 sold well. They are never going to be on par with a multi console release.

Have all missions finished on Heroic, but the in-game achievement counter says I still need one more.

Sigh.

Says I haven't completed Infinity yet.

The new Dark Souls. The pain is too good.

Oh god, I remember. I had accidentally saved and quit during the final cutscene, and when I came back and reloaded it just opened up the next level instead.

Gonna see if a rally point can cure my ailments, but I doubt it.

EDIT: Obviously it didn't work. Guess I'll try replaying the entire mission tomorrow.

Except that Dark Souls saves your game progress about as well as any game I've played. You load back to exactly where you quit every time.

What's happening to people in MCC Campaign is like if a boss you killed, or a bonfire you made it to, just got reset and you had to do it all over again.

Looks good. Something in me wants all the blended playlists to be social, though.

Also maybe if you reach a certain rank in a rotational playlist, you get an exclusive emblem or avatar or something.

Why? Make all playlists ranked. Those that don't care about rank, don't need to worry what number they're given, and those who need ranks are able to utilize a variety of playlists to gauge improvement and feedback. Menke said naturally the system will bring everyone up to 30 at least, 30-40 somewhat random, an then 45+ is brutal and what only the top tier players and pros will be able to get.

I'm not even some tryhard player, I'm probably garbage tier at this point now, but I'd want every playlist ranked for some reason now. If I don't care enough to say play competitively and just want to goof off, let my rank reflect it in the playlist. But I feel it won't happen, social playlists will be needed, because people don't want to be told how bad they are, or accept that they're bad.
