I got to meet Rik Mayall one time after Bottom Live due to a family friend being involved in the production.

I got to chat with him for a few minutes he was really great. Got a few pics and autographs was the best day ever.

I was just thinking how he'd be someone I'd love to meet

and then I remembered

My brother played for Chelsea's football academy for nearly 8 years, and I used to get dragged up to Harlington then Cobbham to watch them train, with my Gamesmaster magazines. At Harlington, at least, they had a little cafe at the top of the pavillion where people could get bacon sarnies and the like, and I used to spend ages up there with Michael Duberry eating sandwiches whilst he was on loan. He'd ask about video games and stuff, he was a nice guy!

I also met all the rest of the team at various points but I used to sit there and stare with thinly veiled disgust at the people who'd wait outside to get signatures out their car windows. I used to see Dennis Wise every week, he wasn't special! Though he did have a ladder thing to help him get out of his giant range rover.

Other than that, I worked on the Olympics Opening Ceremony with Danny Boyle as a CG Artist and was the production representative from our company in meetings with him, so I met him a bunch of times to the point that we were on first name terms.

at last, for christ's sake
I get to go to the BAFTA's and IFTA's for the last 5 years so I've bumped into a few celebs. Have never met any really mean or bitchy celebs, unless you include people who work in Irish TV (but I don't count them). Though the weirdest/surrealist meeting would have been with Woody Allen, really nice guy, but super shy. didn't really want to chat about his films, but I mentioned that I had seen him in concert the last time I was in NYC and he smiled and said thanks.

Nicest:

Michael Fassbender - loves Guinness, nicest actor I've ever met. Have met up with him a good few times since in both London and Dublin.
Saorise Ronan - really down to earth and super nice
Jack Nicholson - personification of cool
Jennifer Lawerence - really nice
George Clooney - very nice and chatty about his films, even the bad ones.
Mark Kermode - chatted with him about his BBC Radio 5Live show and his latest book
Nigel Floyd - really nice guy, super knowledgeable about films
Paul Thomas Anderson - Kept to himself, but was nice when I said "hi" to him
Danial Day Lewis - very shy guy, very tall too. but very pleasent.
Hugh Jackman - really nice and chatted to everyone
Christoper Nolan - nice guy to talk to in general but when he talks about film he came across more intense.
Robin Wiliams - chatted more about games then his movies, was saying he was looking forward to BF3
James Cameron - said hi and we fist bumped, told him he was still "king of the world" (Avatar had just came out) and he smiled
Kathryn Bigalow - very nice lady
Russell Crowe - very cool dude, spent about 30 mins talking about Munster taking on the All Blacks in rugby and how he wanted to go the game in Limerick, but didn't know if his schedule would allow him.
Stephen Fry - he's exactly how you think he would be.

I don't usually take pics, but I do have a few on my PC.

bloody hell man, you win set game and match. Amazing stuff!

You get me into the BAFTA's and I bake you cookies. Deal?

I can't say I've had any dialogue with any, but there were a few who were nice enough to respond to a simple "wow, it's you! This made my day" kind of responses (not verbatim, of course), but I did score pics with these:

- Ken Davitian (the fat guy from Borat) at his now-closed sandwich shop in Hollywood. He seemed busy and I wasn't going to bother him, but some other tourists broke the seal and ask for a picture, so I piggybacked. We exchanged a few niceties and he was overall pretty cool.
- Keiji Inafune at NYCC several years ago. Didn't really say anything, but "thank you" when I professed my love for Mega Man games. This was while he still worked for Capcom, not long before he left.
- Papoose at the same NYCC. He was leaving some racing game stage competition thing with a few other rappers. Exchanged a handshake, said something and snapped a pic.

I've seen several others out and about going about their business, so I didn't feel it was appropriate to bother them, but some notables include:

- I nearly bumped into George Stephanopoulos while leaving an ATM.
- Walked past and exchanged a quick smile with Ice-T and Coco walking down the street in Manhattan.
- Walked right past Method Man at Stop and Shop one Sunday night.

There's others, but those are the ones that I was in close enough proximity of. Looking back, I always wish I'd have said "hi" or something, but it's always strange because I think "eh, they are just out doing their personal business...and I'd feed stupid anyways".

I ran into Ryan Gosling at a convenience store a few years back. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen cans of Coke balanced under his chin without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each can and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

BIGTIME TV MOGUL #2
I was at WonderCon in Oakland back in 1998 or 1999, when it was still in the basement/ballrooms of a small hotel. At one point it was announced over the PA that a bunch of Star Trek people and Corey Haim would be signing autographs at 2PM. A bit later the announcement was made that Corey Haim was available for autographs in ballroom 2. I thought "Hey, this is ballroom 2" and looked around. On the far wall were a bunch of tables, and the Star Trek people had large-ish lines blocking them from view. On the far right was Corey Haim, sitting at a table by himself, with no line whatsoever. I stared at him for a moment, thinking about how weird it was that when I was in middle school, girls in my class would write stuff like "Corey + Me TLF TLA" in big hearts on their binders, and here I was watching him unable to scrounge up an autograph from anyone, and suddenly he noticed me looking at him and returned my gaze. I didn't know what else to do, so I kind of shrugged my shoulders in a sheepish "What can you do, eh?" gesture, and he shrugged back at me in the same manner and smiled. I probably should have gone and talked to him or something, but in truth I was always more of a Corey Feldman fan.

Since then, due to working in TV I've met probably more than I can remember, but some standouts would be:

- Played Resident Evil with Michelle Rodriguez while she waited for an interview. It was a little weird and dictated by the show bosses, but she was sweet.
- Briefly met Frank Welker, who was just the nicest man you could imagine.
- Chatted briefly with Jessica Alba without realizing who she was until later.
- One year at E3 when I had blue highlights in my hair, Jennifer Love Hewitt said it looked cool.
- Interviewed a number of WWE wrestlers for videogame previews, and they were all incredibly nice and happy to do whatever was needed for the show. Of particular note was Triple H, who struck me as one of the most intelligent people I've ever met.
- Did a couple segments with Tito Ortiz back in the early 2000s, really cool and easy going dude.
- I played a fairly long series of D&D 4th Edition campaigns over the course of a year or so with the Diggnation guys, if they count as celebrities.
- Very quickly chatted with James Gunn at a Christmas party last year, told him I was excited about GotG and hoped it would be awesome. He said he hoped so too.
- While I didn't technically meet him, I was standing next to Adam Sessler when Bing Gordon brought Robin Williams over to meet him on their way out of E3 in 2004. Adam was a bit lost for words, but Bing explained that "Adam hosts a TV show about videogames!" to which Robin replied, "Sounds like a pretty fuckin' good gig," and then they had to go. It happened so fast it was surreal.

And of course if you're talking about people who are game industry famous, I got stories for days, but this thread is more about the Hollywood types.

I once sat in a cafe next to Roman Abramovic the morning after the champions league final that chelsea won in Munich three years ago.

Crazy atmosphere when he entered with all his bodyguards. You felt like if you make a wrong move somebody will snap your neck.

lol man it must have been like lock stock or snatch up in there.

I met Edward James Olmos. He and his wife were putting up a play and me and my wife were invited. This was years back. Very humble guy. Still have the playbill in a plastic after he signed it for us.

Kevin Smith (the director, not the actor) bumped me pretty hard and didn't say anything but he was in a huge hurry to get somewhere. Like scrambling.
Knowing what the guy eats, he probably had to take a huge shit.

I met Travis Barker a few months ago, a day before I was going to see blink-182 actually, he was a really really nice guy, he shook my hand, we talked for a few minutes and I got a picture and he signed some stuff for me.

I was actually quite nervous at first but then he was such a cool guy I relaxed pretty quickly

Years ago, on a trip to Vancouver I walked right past Tom Green out in the street. I had been out going to a corner store or something, and when I got back to the hotel we were staying at, my parents informed me they'd just seen James Earl Jones in the hotel.

I also almost physically bumped into Vern Troyer at a convention.

This last one doesn't quite count, but a few minutes after almost colliding with Vern Troyer, a huge throng of people came my way. I had to move quite a bit to get out of their way. They were clearly surrounding someone, taking pictures and going wild over whoever was in the middle, but I couldn't see who it was. A few minutes later I was informed it was William Shatner.

I walked past Richard Lewis the other day in NYC. We were walking towards each other, both really fast, and I happend to recognize him and my hand automatically went up and I said "hi", basically what I would do if I was walking past a co-worker. He said "hey buddy!" and slapped me on the shoulder as he walked past. It was cool.

I also met Opie from Opie and Anthony along with comedians Rich Vos and Jim Florentine walking out of the Sirius building and they chatted with me for a good minute and were all extremely cool and down to earth

Yeah, I'm confused too. That story was indeed posted in another thread about celebrities who have done shitty things, and it was about Bill Cosby there.

Met a few when I worked at a hotel in Brea,California. Mostly comedians since the improv was across the street. Here's a list of a few:

Frankie Muniz when he was younger, I was checking him in the hotel and he was bragging that he drove all the way to the hotel, asked him what kind of car he had, he had a Nissan Frontier.

Jay Moore, he normally stayed at the hotel when he played at the improv, this one time we were sold out and he didn't realise his agent had to book him to another hotel, so I bumped someone else from their penthouse reservation and gave him the room. He thanked me told me he'd get me some tickets to his show, never got them. When checking him out of the room I noticed he had ordered many porn movies and only watched then for about 2 to 3 minutes each.

Jamie Foxx, he list his key had to make him a new one. Came in with a large entourage, he was pretty funny

Others I met no real story for then are

Ryan Stiles
Weird Al
The village people
Don't remember his name but the guy that played Shooter McGavin in Happy Gilmore

Being from LA I've met a few celebrities:

-Tom Arnold - really nice guy, he was smoking a giant stogey in front of Planet Hollywood, talked to him about Metallica

-Kurt Russell - was playing ahead of me on a golf course in Palm Springs, him and his dad were playing slowly so when we got to a par 3 we played the hole together and then went ahead on the next hole, was really nice but kept dropping balls after every bad shot like Tin Cup

-Chevy Chase - was pretty much a dick, refused to shake my friends hand at a pre-Oscar party

-Penelope Cruz - was super nice, I just wanted to say a few words to her but once I said what I'd planned to say she wanted to have a conversation and I just froze up which led to an awkward moment

-DJ Tiesto - again a really nice guy, I talked to him for a while and explained that at the time the only album available in the US was Summer Breeze and that he should release the rest of his albums here, a few months later more of his albums were available

-Paul Oakenfold - I bumped into him at a party, no one seemed to know who he was except me so I shook his and and talked for a moment, seemed like a cool guy

I stood next to D.C Douglas at a convention if that counts. Didn't realise he was there until I turned to leave and nearly squeaked in surprise. Yes, squeaked. Would've made a very embarrassing first impression.

I met Marina Sirtis at a Star Trek convention years and years ago. You had to buy tickets to be in the audience while she did a little speech. I was broke and couldn't afford it, but she broke the rules and came out to meet people afterwards. Awesome.

Saoirse Ronan!

steamGAF is humbled!

I ran into Garth Brooks in San Fran once, literally bumped into him. I swear it was him. I was young though, around 13, so who knows. He grabbed my shoulders to steady me, laughed and apologized, even though it was my fault, and went on his way.

I've been mistaken for a celebrity more times than I've personally seen one. The last and most surreal experience was while on a dinner date with my husband. We went to this sorta upscale place (for us, a once a year type place; it was our anniversary) The staff was acting SUPER nice, very attentive, to the point that I mentioned it to my husband. Different servers kept coming out to wait our table, some of them acting really nervous. The cook even came out to ask if the meal was to our liking. Finally figured it out when we got up to leave and a girl nervously asked for my autograph.

I babbled something about not being who she thought I was and fled. We left a big tip though. Felt really bad :(

What celeb?

I met Jeff Green at the first PAX East. He seemed more taken aback that I was excited to meet him than I was, and I walked away hoping I didn't bother him too much.

Zach Galifianakis one time made a random appearance in a tiny, shit hole bar in my college town. It was on a week night, and it was pretty much just a group of my friends and the bartenders. He was with a lady friend and they drank with us for a while. He had just done a show in Nashville.

Eventually the bar got packed. One of my friends showed up, and he was a huge fan of his, but he was extremely drunk, and he ended up freaking Zach out and Zach pretty much left because of him. Later on my friend crashed in to a fire hydrant and got a DUI.

My science teacher from 8th to 9th grade was Nelly Furtado's older cousin. She even had the same last name, sort of resembled her too, although she was many years older and wore glasses.

Me and my parents saw Michael Jackson from a distance back in 1994?/1995?/'96?/'97? (can't remember the exact date, I was only 3-4 years old lol) in a Sheraton hotel in Sydney while we were eating there. Total mob chaos. I remember he had a white face-mask on.

I went to the London premiere of the last Harry Potter movie and got to see J.K. Rowling, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson and Helena Bonham Carter as they walked by, it was late in the evening as they came out. I was early and got a fairly good spot near the railings, got a chance to exchange brief 'I love you' and 'You rock' shouts. Rupert Grint and J.K. Rowling actually acknowledged me and waved :I

My dad works in a hotel chain as Night Concierge and he met Steven Seagal (he actually got a photo and autograph with him) and Dolph Lundgren. He told me they were really friendly and polite.

That's it I guess... nothing compared to the connections of some GAFers here

I'm a freelance camera guy for the PGA Tour, so I have plenty of stories about professional golfers if you consider them to be celebrities. I've met plenty of traditional tv/movie celebrities during golf pro-ams as well.

I also ran a camera during the 2010 Super Bowl and got to be on stage with The Who and meet a bunch of celebs throughout the week.

When I was 17, I spent a year in Australia. One Sunday morning, some friends and I were walking around downtown Melbourne. I was wearing a Ramones t-shirt that day. The band was in town at the time, but I wasn't going to see them because they were playing at an 18+ club.

From across the street, someone with a strong New York accent yelled, "Hey! You in the Ramones shirt!" It was Johnny Ramone, the band's guitarist.

My friends and I went over. Johnny said, "Can you guys help me out? I really need some milk, but everything is closed. Do you guys know where I can get some milk?"

We knew of a store a few blocks away, so we chatted with him and led him there. Once I told him I was from the Chicago area, all he wanted to talk about was watching Cubs games from the rooftops behind Wrigley Field.

He bought us all little cartons of milk, and we walked him back to his hotel. He put my friends and me on the guest list for that night's show, and we all were able to get in without showing IDs.

I've always heard that Johnny was a real jerk. But maybe he was just in a bad mood when he didn't have milk. He was nice to us.

Not sure how 'celeb' any of mine are (not at all if you're not British, most of 'em probably), but back when I used to work at the BBC in Manchester, I saw or said hello to numerous folks at various points: Tony Wilson (one of the architects of the music scene in 1980s/90s Manchester), Johnny Marr (ex Smiths band member, good man, wrote me his autograph on a beermat :3), Michael Palin, Rio Ferdinand, Johnny Vegas (I was a smoker at the time, used to hang out in the smoking shelter with him occasionally, he was a very decent bloke), John Sim and Philip Glenister while they were filming Life on Mars, Roy Keane (ex Man Utd, spent quite a while with him on a train discussing the crapness of British public transport!), Russell T Davies (interviewed him for a project I was doing), Maxine Peake, various people from Coronation Street. There are tons more, my memory is rubbish these days.

Then at various cons over the years I've met Avery Brooks (kinda bonkers), Brent Spiner (bit rude), Michael Shanks from Stargate (very nice guy, shame I wasn't into Stargate, really!), and Roger Lloyd Pack and the lad who played Neville from Harry Potter (they were both really lovely). I waited around a bit to meet Andy Serkis, but the line was huge because he was such a friendly chap he was talking the ear off everyone he met :) Oh, I also met and hugged (!) Jason Donovan after meeting him outside stage door after seeing him in Rocky Horror many moons ago. Absolutely coked off his tits, he was.

Only have a few, but here's my list:

-Jon Hamm

Ran into him after a Cards game last year down in a small neighborhood bar in Soulard in St. Louis. It was me, him, and only 3 other people who had no idea who he was. He had a pretty full beard growing in, so I sat down a few booths down and started talking Cardinals baseball. He ended up joining in the convo. and only then did I realize it was him. Chatted over a few beers, never talked Hollywood or anything, just baseball. Really cool dude.

-Ellie Kemper

Met her briefly through a friend, of a friend, of a friend thing. She's into theater, and a friend of mine was working on a production in St. Louis. Afterwards there was a dinner party thing, and she came for a while. Ended up being introduced, just chatted for a few about the renovations on Washington Street here in town. Really nice, she didn't stay long though, apparently she was due to filming The Office a few days later and had to get back to set.

-Louis CK

I worked at a large bank as a teller supervisor, and we had a large comedy theater that we had accounts with. So a lot of the comedians would come in to cash their check after they got paid. This was around 2001 or so, so he wasn't really well known yet. Really cool dude. When I had to get his thumbprint for the check, he goes "Oh, no, your confusing me with Chris Rock. I'm the white Chris Rock, just a lot more white."

-Pauly Shore

Complete asshole. Again, this is in relation to the job I had listed above. Normally, the owner of the club would give them two checks. One for showing up at all, and the second after they did their shows. Pauly Shore demanded he be paid, in full, up front. He came in, and normally we had a very long line, since we were a very busy branch. He walked right up to me in my office and demanded that he be next in line. I told him I would try to assist him, and he said he was "in a hurry". I normally keep an extra drawer ready to go just in case we got really busy. So I grabbed my drawer, and went through the normal process to cash his check. When I asked for ID, he said "Don't you know who I am?" I said "Yep. I apologize for the inconvinence, but this is my job." He said he didn't have ID. Told him I couldn't help him. Ended up blowing up big time at that, and stormed out. He ended up going to some other place that cashed it, and fled town. Never even did the shows he was paid to do.

Fuck celebs, you're the celeb! *salute*

I demand to hear about meeting Diana Ross!

Me and my wife arrived at miami airport for a holiday. I met Niki Lauda on the street on the way to the hotel. On the final day, back at the airport we were strolling along and Diana Ross pops out of some VIP area. I recognized her and nudged my wife. I wanted proof of the whole ordeal and went over saying I was a big fan and wanted to take a pic. I also shook her hand during this. She said yeah sure, but hurry. She looked really paranoid during the whole ordeal, her eyes constantly darting left and right. I pushed my wife next to miss Ross and snapped a few pics. While she looked bewildered in real life, she cracked a kodak moment smile for the pic. After the pic she darted off.

Also, I met and photobombed the dutch queen by accident.

Nice! Yeah, I've heard Diana's kind of a weirdo. Isn't she a slumlord as well? Or I think she used to be at least.
