HD Zelda

I don't think Zelda is mass marketable in the first place..A mother doesn't go to the shop and decide to pick up Zelda cause it looks like it could be fun.
It certainly isn't in the way that Mario is, but it's still one of the best selling franchises in gaming history, as well as one of Nintendo's top IPs in terms of popularity.

Very nice, but we know they'll never go that direction. That isn't really mass marketable

It's a nice painting but why would anyone want Link to look like that? Link should always look like an elf. Unless you mean just the artstyle, which in that case I agree it's good.

Gonna use this as my portrait for my next Icewind Dale 2 game.

What makes you say that?

It doesn't look "kiddy" like Wind Waker, so it won't inherently drive off the morons, and it doesn't look "realistic" like Twilight Princess, so it won't inherently drive off the morons. All it needs is good marketing. I think it could work.

That said, I would be very surprised if Nintendo ever went that route. It's very un-Zelda-ish. He's not even wearing a hat! (Teehee.)

If they could pull it off, that would be a look I could go for. I'm a Wind Waker/LTTP Zelda fan. Cartoony graphics or I pass on the games entirely.

How ridiculous. You're going to be missing out on plenty of great Zelda games by taking that stance.

Am I the only person who likes every Zelda game
The only ones I severely dislike (even if I recognise they're not all that bad) are Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks. I like all the others, not a bad one in there. There's some god-tier Zelda's some mid-tier Zelda's but they're all at the least very good.

OMG this x 1000. I was afraid to mention my love for Zelda 2 earlier for fear of being evicerated. I want some Zelda 2 shit. Magic system, exp. system, open world when there was no such thing as open worlds, best overworld Zelda music, etc. I don't know when Zelda was shoe horned in to completely linear game design. I just want to be lost again in a huge world, get my ass handed to me like Demons Souls, and explorel

You could have Link's downward/upward sword thrust, platforming that would be more accessible due to the game being sidescrolling (also puzzles too) . You can still have towns and villages, too.

Now I know we'll never see this. :)

I've been a fan of Turner's work since my art history class. I think it would work great for an HD Zelda. Seeing these images in motion would make me so happy. ^_^

Oh wow, very nice. I'll look into more of his work.

I never, ever want to see the Wind Waker style again, ever. I'm not against cel-shading, I'm just against the specific Wind Waker look. Awful. I'm so glad Twilight Princess was made. I hope to see that style used again, at least one more time.

It all depends on how Skyward Sword sells. If it is a big drop in sales Nintendo may feel conservative and go back to a traditional look. I think the TP look will be amazing in HD. Look at the difference between Shadow of the Colossus and the Last Guardian:

And then remember that the Zelda team is larger and likely better funded than Team Ico. We should see a similar jump for Zelda.

Both of those screenshots are incredibly dull. Where the fuck is the color?

Zelda should never, ever look like that.

I so very much agree.

we need more prominant seasons in Zelda. if Pokymanz can do it, Zelda should do it. it was there in TP but it wasn't obvious. I want to see snow in the winter, bright colored flowers and rain in the spring, bright piss filter in the summer and warm colored everything in the fall

Legend of Zelda: Winter Is Coming

edit: Yeah I agree with you. That's why I want larger landscapes in Zelda. You should be able to climb a mountain and see a giant expanse of land covered in snow or flooded or whatever.

I hope after SS they will have a better idea of how to fill a large overworld. once they can succeed in the dense overworld part, then move into the large overworld. and with the power of the Cafe, they can make it entirely seemless. it gives them a chance to go back to the old style overworld where you can go almost everywhere. the fact that you needed a new item to progress made the series feel more linear than they should be

I tend to agree with that. The power of Cafe will allow the Zelda team much more freedom in how the overworld is constructed and populated.

Austrian painter from the 19th century. His work is mindblowing. I would love to see Zelda's artstyle shifting from South American influence to a Swiss/Austrian one. South Tyrol would be a awesome basis for the Zelda HD enironments. I would kill for a seamless vast world looking on par with Majola/Gottardo and with a touch of Locarno/Bolzen. Add some Baltic Sea influence and Russian woods and you get the job done.

Yeah, I like dreaming.

These are awesome, thank you for posting them. I especially like the light and shadows in this one.

I would just like to know where the idea that Nintendo's teams don't/won't know how to program for high-level tech comes from. Seems that there is no basis to prove it. Nintendo has always made the best looking games for their consoles. So now that they are about to make a considerable jump, they will have problems with it? Not buying that.

Well I do not agree: in GameCube era CapCom easily trashed Nintendo developing powers with its Biohazard remake and Biohazard 4 projects. Nintendo itself acknowledged that (if I'm not wrong it was Iwata).

I really doubt this is anything but a concept, not the final artstyle. Just a way for them to show what they can do in HD right now. They have a long way to go.

Looked really good, lots of particles, this is kinda how I imagined an HD Zelda to look like, that is, Twilight Princess art direction coupled with CG-like visuals in real-time of course. That video did not look pre-rendered at all. It's probably no different than the SpaceWorld 2000 GameCube tech-demo.

This is definitely just the start. It's gonna be truly incredible 4 years from now. Also I just want to say that I definitely guessed that there would be a Zelda tech demo and HD Zelda in general would be very important. For that I am patting myself on the back.
