Darksiders was absolutely horrible, people comparing it to Zelda always make me laugh.

Bad artstyle, bad tech, janky mechanics and completely boring level design. They get points for trying but they didn't even come close to getting it right.
 
There's a reason they made Darksiders. It's the "dark" "mature" Zelda Nintendo will never make. At least not until Miyamoto, Aonuma, and other higher-up Nintendo developers are all dead. Not gonna happen. Majora's Mask is as grim as Zelda will get for a loooooong time.

i dont think why everyone compares the games. they sure have similarities but i would not call darksiders a zelda clone
 
i want the series to stay cel-shaded from here on out and just try to resemble the concept art as closely as possible, like the first valkyria chronicles did.

edit: My own opinion is that Nintendo needs to be careful to balance between keeping it interesting and exciting for the male teenage crowd while at the same time being experimental with fresh new artstyles. I really like the David and Goliath motif and Last Guardian. While God of War isn't a great example for Zelda in terms of themes, I absolutely love the oil painting look. I really want Zelda games to look like a living painting. Oh yeah and I didn't want to just re-up the Zelda art thread. While this thread does involve art, it's covering the effects of extra console power in general on Zelda.

HD does not mean it has to look more violent or gritty. I expect HD will allow for Zelda games to be far more expansive. Take what we have now and alllow for world sizes possibly similar to that of MMOs. Not the gameplay of a MMO just the size of the worlds with the Zelda gameplay. Perhaps bustling cities or villages like in the Elders Scroll games. The puzzles could get even mroe complicated or frustrating depending how you look at them. Perhaps even more quest to do instead of just the dungeons. We might be able to have more horse based combat like in Twilight Princess with perhaps armies with either link apart of it or watching it as he travels.

I expect Nintendo games to retain their art styles though and Nintendo charm. HD is just how detailed the look of a game is. It isn't a art style, type of gameplay, or style of game. It never was. It just a means to an end. Being able to have high definition isn't going to mane Nintendo is going to stop making games their way in terms of art and content.

While graphics could be pushed to the level of the picture above (but in the Nintendo art style) I fully expect the puff of smokes to stay and not blood sprays to be introduced. Anyone expect things like that (blood sprays, body parts, etc) need to put that out of their minds right now.

no, i mean how valkyria chronicles did its best to match its concept art.

also, unless skyward sword does this first, i expect a seamless world in hd zelda, similar to shadow of the colossus and the wind waker (with transitions for dungeons and maybe buildings).
 
One of the things I thought TP got really right was character design, especially Ganondorf. Now, his inclusion in the story couldn't be more forced in if they tried (though the seeds were there for a much smoother integration had it been given more gestation), but the look of him and Zelda etc. was perfect for TP's aesthetic. Still stylised, but with a darker edge. I wouldn't want every Zelda to look like that, but it certainly wasn't ill-chosen.

That final scene
with the creepy Zant neck crack
did a good job of capturing some of that unsettling undertones of OoT/MM, especially with the haunting vocal music playing at the time.

I agree. I like Darksiders myself, but I wouldn't say it's a copy. The only point I was making is that with the current Nintendo "regime" there will never be an M rated Zelda, yet some people still clamor for one. It won't happen for at least a decade. And thank the good lord for that, I say. Wind Waker is one of my favorite Zelda games.

I have already let this man confuse me since I like to judge all games by appearance. Nothing looks appealing in that screenshot, not even the lamp-post.

Wind Waker has pretty much aged better than any other game...
 
SMH at all the people wanting a gritty realistic Zelda.

Zelda can stay all colorful and cartoony, that's not what is wrong with the current Zelda games. They need to fucking change the same old game-design and progression.
That old Zelda-formula is getting stale.
 
Might be in the minority here, but I wish they dropped Link's green cap. I know it's iconic and all, but I think it looks a bit silly. His outfit could use an overhaul in general if you ask me.

Also, surprised there haven't been any mentions of Katsuya Terada's art or of Prince of Persia (2008) as an example for stylized HD graphics.

If there's any art style that needs to be copied more, it's the one used in PoP 2008. It's quite possibly the prettiest game this generation. It has amazing art that was perfectly realized by great tech.

Am I the only one who doesn't see OoT as "realistic"? Compared to Wind Waker the proportions and water looks slightly more realistic, but it is still very stylised.

If the proportions of Wind Waker were adjusted to be similar to those of OoT I'm sure you wouldn't hate of the graphics.

Oh and please don't post an image of the "Wind Waker" patch for OoT.
 
I've always been partial to seeing Majora's Mask's concept art properly realized, using cel shading with those heavy black shadows. Marvel vs. Capcom 3 uses a somewhat similar shading style.

Maybe replace ugly young Link with teen or adult Link, though. I hate OOT's young Link.
 
An elegant Valkyria Chronicles look would be ideal. Though sticking with the cell-shading style of Wind Waker and taking some tips for Naruto would be great as well.

Whatever it is like, I hope HD Zelda manages to render trees better than Skyward Sword.
 
Nintendo games will continue to look like Disney and Studio Ghibli movies.

Pain-inducing, but not a complete loss for gamers or the world at large.
 
I think HD has loads of potential for the Zelda franchise. Cell Shading done well could be awesome but I would still prefer them to stick to the TP style. Edging on realistic but still with a chunk of a cartoonish quality about it.

Also, being able to run through Hyrule Field and it actually have animated grass and trees covering it would be pure bliss.

It looks lush, a bit barren and maybe too cartoony for publishers to take a hold of but I could imagine Zelda characters filling up the scenery and it would look spectacular! Thats a shame.

I would love something like this. PoP '08 was painfully easy, but I loved the art. A Zelda game with that direction would be lovely. A HD Wind Waker direction wouldn't be bad either. Photorealism in my Zelda? Hell no.

Oh, and not only was Darksiders a clunky mess of a game, but the WOW-esqe art is hideous.
