Heavy Rain - A Neogaf Official Thread on the Gaming Forum

Damn I wish the demo wasn't locked to people having to solve it on the computer. -_-

Someone give me a code please and I will forever be grateful. If not, then I guess I have to wait until Thursday or whenever it is made available. ._.

It's very simple. First, if you live in the United States, go to this site and register. Then, go to this kotaku post and follow the instructions. Once you complete everything (which takes only a few minutes), you should receive a demo code. Just make sure you get a US account first if you are in the US, or else you'll get a code for a European account which will not work.

I'm weirdly fascinated by this game for its approach to quick-time events. I consider it an interesting case study for implementation in horror games. Imagine a Clock Tower or Haunting Ground where a Heavy Rain-style QTE helps you fend off the monster once he/she finds where you're hiding... Gold, Jerry! Gold!

Maybe Ethan has 2 theme songs? :lol

I noticed that this new one is called "Ethan" while the other one is called "Mars".

Wait, wait. Mars is the Roman version of Ares, the Greek god of war.
OMG! ETHAN IS THE GOD OF WAR!

If you're panic meter is too great, it would make the QTEs move faster and the text would be smaller which could make your choice a matter of life or death. I think that would be pretty fun and very scary.

Loved the very first "interview" footage, what a journey it has been.

Let us take a few moments to reminisce Mary Smith (and her craaazy eyes and mouth overbite). She looks like this most of the time in that footage:

:lol :lol :lol

But she turned completely awesome in the climax of that footage:

Great thread. I'm surprised that the Japan cover isn't the least liked ... I think it looks horrible, the NA is just generic and the Origami one is obviously the winner, I agree with the one person who said it would make a great poster.

This game has me intrigued, I've always shied away from QTE style games but after playing the demo I was simply stunned at how intense the game could be. I actually felt stressed and not the "OHHH SHIT SON NEED A HEADSHOT HERE" type of stressed but the kind you get while watching a well directed scene in a movie.

You got it, man.

HR is one of the few games where I don't feel like I'm being conditioned to do X in order to progress from A to B. Rather, I'm more likely to experiment in scenarios: 'What happens if I fuck up the fight sequence?' 'Will this create some kind of animosity if I say [...] to this person?' 'Is it possible to skip this scene entirely?'

Can't wait! A "mature" story coupled with (so far) the best implementation of QTE. Perhaps the evolution of interactive storytelling.

Something tells me I'm going to love this game. I'm a sucker for good stories. About time we got a break from shooting 5000 people in every other game these days. Videogames != gun simulators.

So, that's where that guy got his avatar.

Shidoshi, I assume? Also, does that mean all of these times you were not aware of "the casting" footage? It's pretty good for what it was back then (and LOL-worthy in other parts).

I do hope the game explains why "Heavy Rain" seems to be the theme of the story.

And Henry Cavill will play Theseus in Dawn of War....Henry Cavill should play Ethan!! Wait, that's completely unrelated and random.

I have never seen this footage before. It's probably Jaeyden's 2nd or 3rd scene:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTOpy4BvNAQ

It's a scene from early in the game, because I know it was in the preview build. I've also seen screengrabs from the scene. But I've never seen the scene in full. I've played the demo and there really aren't any spoilers, but definitely don't watch it if you want to go in fresh.

I am super excited for this, the main reason: my GF absolutely hates video games but loves suspensful movies with intense plots such as this one. I figured this would be the first game we could sit down together and play without her getting bored considering its like a thriller movie with a bunch of QTEs.

Wait, you made an official thread with the words 'thread of..' in the title? Can we still do that?

I'm really pumped up for Heavy Rain. I not going to try the demo either, I'm ready to go in raw.

I signed up but haven't received an email to start playing. :/

EDIT: Nevermind, I was waiting for an email. I went to the precinct52 website and logged in and then did it. Now I am downloading the demo, thank you much! :)

Not sure after playing the demo... I have an innate hate for QTE, the second they asked me to shake the controller they lost me... Not my type of game, but more power to those who love it! Cheers!

Can't wait for this game. If it does well I'd like to see more developers try making games that are a little more mature and grounded in reality.

Will she make an appearance in the game?

By the way, found a good quality image for a poster if anyone's looking forward to making one. I recall it was on a teaser on the official site.

The actress that played her has a different character in the game. She plays Lauren Winter.

Oh, great. Is she a british model that made some interviews some months ago? Or maybe I'm confusing the talent.

Jayden <3

Alright, THAT'S my last vid concerning the game. Gotta stay strong and maintain the blackout for the next 2 weeks. But, hell, that vid is awesome.

I loved the first quarter of Fahrenheit and hoped to find more of it in Heavy Rain, but the early footage made me a little sceptical. However after playing the demo I was convinced this was exactly what I wanted and I went to preorder the special edition, because I'm a sucker for that kind of stuff.

I'm going to make my first playthrough my "real" playthrough. So no roleplaying, just making choices which I would make when I was in the character's shoes and no restarts after the possible death of a character. Makes the game even more compelling for me I think.

Best official thread ever. Great job.

God the japanese box art is terrible. :lol Though the game looks great and that's what matters. :P
WTF? THE japanese box art is awesome. The american box art sucks

Just realized I won't be able to play right away since I have to wait for shipping from the UK.... oh man, that's going to be unbearable.

I rarely follow games. That also goes for those I'm interested in because I don't want to burn myself out on them before I play it. Also, I just don't really care for a lot of that stuff. I just want to play the game.

That's probably the healthiest attitude when it comes to waiting for releases.

For myself, this hobby is a quarter gaming and three-quarters research/hype. For the latter, I enjoy the social aspect. It's a catharsis to be a part of community that shares a common interest rather than common proximity/circumstances.

So hyped for this and its starting to get real close too. Love seeing the official threads to my most anticipated games, its like announcing that another wave of awesome is coming.

The world just needs more Henry Cavill in general. No thanks to you, you bastard, for changing your avatar. >:-(

.......

<- Fine, he's back. I wish there's a rotator that I can use for avatar though. I kinda want to alternate between Henry and some of my Heavy Rain avatars without doing it manually.

I thought this was coming out on the 16th. I was heartbroken to learn that I was misinformed. Thanks, Gamestop and Metacritic.
The date seems to have changed a few times here in the UK. In game it was the 26th, then for about a wekk it was the 19th and now it has gone back to the 26th???
