I'm 5'9", is this considered short in US?
I have to rent a car next week and all because I am too tall for most compacts I will have to rent a larger sized Vehicle and be charged more.At least shorter people can fit everywhere. Some vehicles and public seating are ridiculously cramped for tall people.
There's also less choice for clothing purchases. Smaller sizes are much more abundant than larger sizes.
height doesn't matter when it comes to love

best believe she gets her pound of flesh
ohohoh
Not really. If your height is not in the average range of 5'9 - 5'11, you'll have problems finding clothes that fit unless you're ultra thin. Even slightly muscular or fat and 5'6 - 5'7 means good luck finding pants that aren't too tight or too long. This also applies for broadly built people at that height. Only small frame peeps can buy clothes without having to get the clothes hemmed. At least shorter people can fit everywhere. Some vehicles and public seating are ridiculously cramped for tall people.

I think you're comparing an extreme end of height to simply the lower end of average. I don't know how it is for women, but as a short man it is very difficult to find clothing that fits properly. Are you thinking "size small, those are for shorties" and there are plenty of them so you assume it's all good? Let me tell you, often that size is not short enough, and if it does match the height in terms of top-to-bottom length, it very rarely gets the rest of the ratios correct. There's also less choice for clothing purchases. Only if we like to wear tents and boxes.Only small frame peeps can buy clothes without having to get the clothes hemmed.

Nice try at being more clever than everyone but there have been plenty of studies done with this in mind as well. It is a legit social stigma/bias. As someone said in here earlier, being a short guy is like being a fat girl.Correlation does not imply causation.
Definitely one of the things I'm looking forward to.You'd enjoy shopping in Korea--I'm also 5'7 and everything fit me right off the rack. It was fantastic.
Care to explain? I've heard people say this to me a few times.Tall for no reason people are comical to me.
Why is it that I'm expected to get stuff of the top shelf for the vertically challenged but if I ask one of them to get something from the bottom shelf suddenly I'm the bad guy?

I'm 5'7.5'' at 14 years old, my dad's 5'7'' and my mom's 5'1'', what height could I possibly grow to? Anybody else ever been in such a situation?
Im a little bit under 5 6.
It doesn't hold me back or whatever because I don't sit and bitch about it. This looks like a bootstraps post but really Jesus the whole world isn't out to get you. Get over it. All these isms you keep bringing up are so minuscule. Right afterwards you'll claim that racism is small fries compared to it.

No evidence of this, but i ve always felt that on tv and movies the the main character is usually never the tallest of the core characters, and often has the most personality. There often seems to be a taller person that can range from more awkward to being the incredibly attractive one, at least in stories about groups of friends or students. Wonder why that may be

You're basing this off Movies and Television shows?
Yeah, my dad is 6'3", my brother too. I'm 6'4".My dad was 6'1", my brother is 6'3" and I'm 6'5". I know plenty of people who have out grown their parents.
6'3" or 6'2" here.
I look down on you short people.
People taller than me scare me though and I don't know what to do.

I'm 5'9. But I'm female so it doesn't count.
Tall girls can only be with tall guys
short-medium girls wish they were with tall guys
that's the break down
Well that depends on the type of pants you're talking about. I guess in general, ideal would be 31 inseam. For some stupid reason, that is almost always matched with a very wide waistline, so I'm always stuck choosing between 30 or 32 inseam, and there often seems to be no thought put behind how the ratios with the rest would change with someone of that height, so things like how high the waist is or how low the crotch is affect the true length of the pant aside from the inseam measurement. The less you are working with overall, the bigger effect these sort of changes have, so clothes have to be more precise the smaller the person is.What pants size do you wear? We are the same height yet I have never had problems with finding pants that fit me.
Come to the midwest. It is a land of giants. For basic sizes the stores around my parts have a huge number of Small, Medium, and Large choices. They might have a few XL. If you need 2XL or bigger, you'll need to find a speciality store.
You could grow more any time even to 20 years old. The height of your parents can be some general clue, but really a lot of kids these days are growing taller than the previous generations. My cousin grew sooo much from 13-16 and her parents (and their parents) aren't tall. I also have a friend who grew like 10 inches taller in highschool.I'm 5'7.5'' at 14 years old, my dad's 5'7'' and my mom's 5'1'', what height could I possibly grow to? I do not know about that, it is a pretty pervasive form of discrimination in society (atleast in my view and I apologize to anyone offended by this discussion). I am not equating it to sexism or racism in this topic and have admitted the error of my ways in saying lookism and heightism are as bad.... Poor choice to make a serious topic over. No one cares about this, including short people...
Well society encourages rather than conditions condemnation of discrimination based on height.Although not professionally, it has burned me personally. And then I come to this thread and see cocky comments about being tall and "looking down". Height is one of those things you have no direct control over.
Ironically, one of my good friends is 6'6" has never made fun of me despite the awkward difference in our height. Making fun of me for my height does hit a nerve even though I have grown comfortable with how tall I am over the last 4 years.
I do not know about that, plenty of actors are taller and I would say relative to the population the tall are preferred in that industry as well (I do not know if this is correct or not just going off of IMDB searches I have conducted). Most popular actors seem shorter than average.
If you're tall and get preferential treatment, is it considered discrimination?
Nope.

Now she is.
I wish I was a little bit taller.
