I don't think there's any illusion.
The only reason there's such a significant conceptual disparity between the ownership of physical and electronic goods is the current roadblocks to consumer manufacturing of the former. Imagine when decent quality 3d printers become standard and you can trivially produce physical goods from your house. You'll be in the same 'quagmire' of what can and cannot be sold. Essentially the only reason we take selling physical goods for granted is because of the difficulty of replication for consumers.
When you purchase a game you own a game. Being prohibited (even if that means no enabling means) from selling something you own by a private company is fairly absurd.
