My first PC was a Compaq luggable. It had a 10-ish meg Hard Drive and a 5 1/3 in Floppy drive, it was used for Word Star and Jeaopardy, and that's about it.
When I was in 7th grade, I got a 386 SX 16mhz, that was my true entry into PC gaming. It had a 40 meg HDD, 3 megs of ram, and a 5 1/4 in floppy, but it at least had VGA, which was pretty sweet. It couldn't run DOOM for shit, but I did play games like Wolfenstien, Leisure Suit Larry, Space Quest, Rise of the Dragon, Police Quest, and the one that influenced me the most from back then: The Lucasarts Classic Adventures box. I think it was the first of the adventure game packs by Lucasfilm Games, but it had Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, LOOM, Zak McCracken, and Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade. Monkey Island blew me away, and I loved LOOM to death.
The system was under powered for most things though, so eventually I was given a 486 DX2/66 when I started my junior year of High School, and that is where I really started to understand how great PC gaming could be, the computer was a little behind the times (The Pentiums had just come out), but it had a CD-ROM and a Sound Blaster 16, I was in heaven.
Some gems from then:
and that's just a few. During that time I was introduced to Wing Commander, King's Quest 5 and 6, X-wing and Tie Fighter, the Ultima Collection, Might and Magic, and so much more.
Oh and of course Doom 2 co-op and deathmatch, and Duke Match 1 v 1, me and a buddy would play for hours finding ways to screw eachother over, leave traps and generally be horrible to one another.
