Hori FPS Pad Plus for PS4/PS3 review.

So it isn't possible to move the stick ever so slightly and not have the camera move?

Just tried it, seems like if you move it ever so slightly the camera doesn't move. Once you hit a point it moves slightly and then once I push all the way in a direction is moves faster.

Your hands are symmetrical, but unless you're actually playing games that only always use just the sticks, your hands are rarely if ever placed symmetrically on the controller. It's a terrible argument against asymmetrical stick placement.

The one thing I don't like about the asymmetrical design or I guess I should say I like more about the symmetrical design (atleast with the Dualshock variety and not the Wii U gamepad type) is that it allows me to use the D-Pad while also using the left stick. The D-Pad can be used with the edge of your thumb if you're moving forward or you can put your index finger in mild discomfort for a second to press the button. This is really useful in games where certain equipment is accessed with the D-Pad and the ability to keep moving forward is very important for your task and survival.

Other than that, I don't care. I go rock climbing every now and then, I know discomfortable thumbs when I feel them and moving my thumbs in completely natural motions for a couple of hours is not uncomfortable at all.

Unfortunately there isn't. That's probably a big problem for a lot of people.

I use a Astro MixAmp with my headset so it's not an issue for me.

How do you talk to people?

I'm hesitant to buy another hori gamepad after having issues with their pro 6 button 360 controllers. The analog sticks were faulty and from what I read online this was a known issue they did nothing to fix.

They never fix anything. The Fighting Commander 4 still has the same fragile dpad as the previous model, it'll rotate on its own even if it's locked, they should've just taken out the whole rotatable feature completely.

Gah, the placement of the right d-pad and analogue stick! I hate X-Box layout.

Then this one particular pad out of all the options available may not be for you. Feel free to go with one of all the other symmetrical offerings available for the console, and ignore the one alternative that attempts to cater to those that like assymetrical layouts better.

Looks like just what I was waiting for... Except I don't see a mic port. There is one, right?

And I hate the Dual-shock layout, so it's pretty clear who this is targetting.

Since all shops in op are sold out, is there any place left to buy them?

See

OP, can you add NCSX to the list of retailers?

http://www.shopncsx.com/horipadfpsplus.aspx

Their shipping is really cheap since it is from NYC.

I also have an Astro A30 Headset so it has a detachable mic and I just use a headphone/microphone splitter cable to connect it to the MixAmp. I talk to buddies all the time with it, my voice and their's comes in crystal clear.

lol no. The ADC in the mixamp is shit. You should be using the 2.5mm to 3.5mm Turtle Beach cable with the Mixamp and connect it to the DS4. You'll notice the difference.

I imported mine thru ebay and it came in today so I just thought I'd give some impressions.

The construction feels solid (sturdy, no creaks) but the light weight (no rumble motors) and the glossy plastic they chosemakes it feel cheap.

The deadzone is really tiny. Even tighter than the dualshock4, which is really good IMO.
As said before the best thing about this controller is the "target" button on the back. I've been playing destiny for a few hours now and I really think this thing quite literally a gamechanger to the point I am not sure this would even be tournament legal. Nevertheless, I wish this was on all my controllers lol.

The shoulder buttons (L1 & R1) are garbage because of the shape. They are easy enough to press in but the sharp angled shape of both the controller & buttons should have been rounded more for a smoother feel. I don't mind the triggers as much. They have a shorter throw than the dual shock 4, so it's more like a button and it's actually a good change.

I use kontrol freeks on all my pads as well, so if anybody is curious the 360/ps3 size fits perfectly.

I highly recommend this controller. It's a great 2nd controller as well as a must if you are into FPS and you prefer the xbox layout.

I'd argue for many games, most of the time your thumbs are on the sticks. FPS especially, which is what this controller seems to be aiming for.

Any word if this is ever coming to NA? This thing looks sexy as hell.

Also, it's not clear on any of the product descriptions if this controller has a headset input, lightbar, motion sensor, vibration or a speaker. Anyone know?

Looks great! This actually makes me more interested in a PS4 console purchase, as I was very displeased with the DS4 in the 6 or so months that I had access to one. Good stuff HORI.

It has NONE of the things you mentioned.

I have to amend my previous glowing review. My left thumb stick is starting to creak but even worse is my right trigger button sometimes does not register!

So most definitely wait on a NA version so that way you can exchange it if you have any problems.

I saw Turbo and said hell no

I miss being able to use my arcade stick with turbo button. Take THAT, "do X simple action 5000 times" achievements. In fact there's already a couple PS4 games I could use that on, not enough to make this worth buying for me though--don't care about wired and don't care about stick layout.

Good to know, thanks!

I hope this comes to NA sooner rather than later, as I've pretty much had my fill of the ass-tastic DS4 triggers. They suck even when they're not sticking, which is only really about the first 10 hours of gameplay. I'll gladly take the risk on this controller's iffy triggers because they have got to at least be better than Sony's.

Why would anyone use an asymmetrical controller to replace a symmetrical one? This makes no sense, the hands are naturally symmetrical.

EDIT: That came off the wrong way, nothing against anyone that wants an asymmetrical controller.

Yeah, hands are naturally symmetrical, so I like to put both my thumbs in the same spot, relatively, for most of the game, and in the most comfortable spot at that:

This controller makes PS4 a lot more attractive for me, now I don't need to fear a Sonic exclusive to PS4 because I could just buy a PS4 and play it comfortably :).

Thanks for the review! I'm a bit sad though that it is missing gyro and therefore will not be compatible with all games...

It connects to your PS4 via USB (which powers it) and then you plug in an optical audio cable into it and into the back of the PS4. Audio sounds great through it.

Oh wow....I might need this, badly. Thanks!
There is a cheaper product if you can't afford or justify the price of the Astro MixAMP.

I use it with my Pulse Elites (3.5mm from DSS to 3.5mm on Elites USB dongle) and it sounds better than the default setup.

There is only mic support with wired Turtlebeach headsets as far as I know. I use my PS Camera as my mic.

As for this controller my wife would love it if it ever came out in NA. She is an Xbox gamer first but we aren't going to be getting an Xbox One for a few years so she has to play everything on our PS4.
